  1. theloniusfleabag You wrote- " Why are western troops still there? Evidently, UNOCAL wanted to build a gas pipeline across the country, but it is believed to be near impossible to build and maintain it without a strong central, pro U.S. Afghani gov't." That pipeline was in the works for a long time but definite proof would be required to establish what you are saying as factual and true and would be hard to acquire due to the antics of Bin Laden and the Taliban and the war on terrorism.
  2. geoffrey You wrote- " So we should never eat fish. We actually suffocate them to death, much more brutal. And the difference is nothing." The point again it is cruel to kill seals mainly for there pelts and not for food. If you consider killing seals a legitimate and ethical industry good for you, I don't along with many others. The day of wearing animal skins for clothing and protection is 'passe' as many other products are readily avaiable to the consumer. We are no longer cave men.
  3. Bryan You wrote- " Freshly clubbed seals are a rich source of Omega-3." Ever hear of Chia.... http://www.newstarget.com/019312.html Even carrots are rich in Omega-3 as well as well as many other foods.
  4. geoffrey You wrote- " No difference than killing a seal than killing a chicken." That's not the point. The point is chickens are bred specifically for that purpose in private facilites as a BUISNESS. Seals unlike fish (for food) are MAINLY killed for their SKINS on public facilites as a private buisness thus bypassing the added cost of breeding, feeding, slaughtering, transporting and selling the animals as buisness on private property. In other words the sealing cull is an unecessary attack on wildlife prompted by greed.
  5. geoffrey You wrote- " I said multi-million not multi billion to just correct that point." Sorry, I meant that to. But just think of the billions created by sales and service, energy cost and service industries associated with Canada's 'four seasons'. I think you'll find Canadians are held at the mercy of corporate Canada and are slaves to the system more so than say U.S. residents pertaining to necessary goods and services and does pad the GDP. You also wrote- " Iam pretty sure Canadians can do as they please economically." And I believe that to or do I... as it does not explain or clarify why Canadians owe $628-billion dollars almost right in line with our gross national debt. http://www.listenuptv.com/programs/031127credit.htm
  6. GreenWhiteandPink You wrote-" Lots of facts and sources here. 'Atlantic Canada seal hunt.' Oh great more propaganda from the sealers themselves. You realize of course you have world opinion against the seal hunt and the only reason the federal government supports it is it a 'cheap way out'. http://www.commondreams.org/headlines06/0319-07.htm I guess some of the people in Atlantic Canada are trying to get back at the Europeans by selling them expensive seal pelts after Europe helped destroy the fishing industry in Atlantic Canada while the feds stood by and watched and won't be happy until nothing swims or walks. Canadians in Atlantic Canada should demand the same kind of federal help to develop other forms of industry that was given to Quebec.
  7. geoffrey You wrote- " How about snow removal for example? That's a multi-billion dollar GDP contributor." In a forced sense I might add and clearly indicates along with previously mentioned other GDP forced contributions we are not as free as one might expect. Corporate Canada clearly rules Canada and concerning the average Canadian, just enough left over for beer and popcorn. Think I am moving to Spain. Probably run into Monty!
  8. theloniusfleabag You wrote- " You are only hearing about this now? Proselytizing and converting have carried the death penalities in many countries." As a matter of fact I do vagluey remeber this as possibly a historical fact but never actually dreamt it is being carried on to-day. But this raises an interesting question and that is what are our troops doing in Afghanistan? We are supposedly there to help the country along with democracy and it's associated freedoms. But now I feel this is a complete impossibility due to the fact the countries backward laws and religion are intertwined with Islam in a cultural sense. I think Muslims in general are a lost cause and personally am no longer supporting our democratic quest to help them upgrade to modern times with our style of democracy and freedoms. This cause incidently is not being supported vigorously by Muslims in democratic capitalist countries as I can now see clearly why. Their political baggage includes there own government and religion wrapped in a neat little cultural package. Who knows for sure what goes on behind the scenes in Muslim communities that escapes the scrutiny of our laws and police departments? I think it's time to bring back our Canadian troops immediately.
  9. GreenWhiteandPink You wrote- " Humans can also eat and digest seal. There are 8oo million people that live without beef in India, so I wouldn't consider it a necessary part of the food chain." India is a large exporter of beef. The North American diet includes beef and poultry. Seal meat is considered to be inedible and UNFIT for human consumption. http://www.seashepherd.org/seals/seals_seal_hunt_facts.html You are not providing any links to back any claims you make and therefore assume you are a troll. Newfoundlanders and others don't own the ocean and the government of Canada has a responsibility to eliminate this seal cull especially when it's only purpose is to supply furs to affluent Europeans thereby destroying and wasting the rest of the animal.
  10. Shariah Law and Christianity do not mix and could very well mean death if you convert. http://www.sltrib.com/nationworld/ci_3620352 Unbelievable!
  11. GreenWhiteandPink You wrote- " According to your logic the cattle is also cruel and unecessary, as cattle are not needed to support the food chain and cattle are also defenseless animals." No, sorry. I did say cattle are a necessary part of the human food chain to supply meat for human consumption since humans are carnivorous who have the ability to kill, digest, and absorb the nutrients from animal life. Cattle and poultry for example are bred specifically for that purpose to be consumed while very little of seal meat is used for human consumption and is basically killed for pelts fins and seal penis only, which are really not required in to-days society. Seal cubs are defensless compared to the adult variety and cannot be compared with cattle or other animal species bred specifically for human consumption. http://www.american.edu/TED/harp.htm http://www.cbc.ca/news/background/sealhunt/
  12. GreenWhiteandPink You wrote- " Do you believe the cattle harvest in Alberta is inhumane." Seals are cute looking critters but that is not my concern. Cattle in Alberta are raised and slaughtered under humane controlled conditons and are part of the human food chain. Seals are wild animals and are slaughtered and skinned on ice flows ( this year 335,000 of them 98% under 3-months old ) under UNSUPERVISED conditons leaving a deplorable mess of rotting flesh. They are NOT slaughtered for human consumption but rather for leather goods mainly in Europe. The seal harvest represents 1/10 of 1% of the provinces economy in Newfoundland for example and only adds a few hundred dollars to seaslers net income according to my info. Obviously if these seals were raised in captivity it would not be financially feasiable to kill these animals only for their skins. The seal harvest in my opinion is cruel and unnecessary and is depriving these small defenceless animals their right to their existence especially if not needed to support the human food chain.
  13. PocketRocket There is no need for a poll of this type as it's results could be very misleading. I think the main objective is to identify WHEN this anti-U.S. originally first started and gradually became more progressive. I know for a fact there was never any outright anti-Americanism in this country until the Liberals started heavy immigration from Islamic countries followed by vocal oppositon mainly from Quebec. There is a big difference between dislike of a countries foreign policy and expressing outright animosity and hatred basically based on language and culture. I suspect hard core anti-U.S. sentiments in Canada is actually quite low and is often confused by the media with some Canadians disliking U.S. foreign policy as opposed to hate and animosity being associated with anti-Americanism.
  14. Nocrap You wrote- " The attack was against Americans not Christians." The attack was against capitalism and Christians in the believe the world trade center represented the structure of ultimate power over the world primarily controlled by the U.S. They fiqured the U.S. would fall apart after destroying these towers. I believe they compared some type of strong religious association to these towers like they have towards their extremist Islamic religion. Terrorist are cold blooded murderers that must be hunted down and destroyed.
  15. seabee You wrote- " It is not has if the Quebecois had no roots." Quebec's roots are the same as any other part of Canada since confederation in 1867. To go back beyond that is inconsequential pertaining to any argument since Quebec's dependency and existence relies on being part of confederation. To include historical facts pertaining to any political argument Quebec clearly would have to be it's own country completely separate from Canada, which it is not. But I to agree Quebec a shown a linguistic animosity towards anything English especially against the U.S. which is not understandable since Canada's well being is derived from a close association with the U.S.
  16. seabee You wrote- " Sad indeed Quebecois are not bloodthirsty warmongers. Perhaps it is because they were conquered by such people two and a half centuries ago." Maybe if the French would have immigrated to settle enmasse in significant numbers and not just to ship furs and fish back to France perhaps they would not have been conquered. Regardless this is a poor excuse for anti-Americanism and Senator Payette should be ashamed of herself for possibly labelling all Canadians as anti-American. I to think the seal hunt is deplorable in the way it is done and if a more humane way cannot be implemented I say scrap the seal hunt permanetly.
  17. gerryhatrick You wrote- " No more "we won't cut and run" quotes please, just tell us the facts." The facts are the military are just doing the job they were hired for and their job description does not only include pen and paper work. The Liberals especially under John Chretien operated a closed door government and I rarely heard a complaint from anyone including the media.
  18. geoffrey You wrote- " Well folks, is it time to be done with the Queen" Absolutely not! This country is so divided that retaining the Queen is the only way to keep the country intact due to divided loyalities. Regardless, dumping the Queen would be no easy feat and besides she gives heritage, history and character to this country.
  19. Nocrap You wrote- " but I know that people like Cheryl Gallant and David Sweet will be watched closely by mainstream Canadians; not to mention Stockwell Day." This is a BS statement! Since when are social sucking Liberals or NDP supporters mainstream Canada? Name me the last federal election either party won with more than 50% of the popular vote?
  20. That link is not working...check out story at ctv.ca
  21. Well now that Paul Martin is almost history, how will he be remembered. My favourite is contrary to what Mr. Martin and the Liberals used to say the Liberals NEVER DID establish national daycare. That was a great ploy Mr. Martin and an effort that probably helped considerably to get you elected as PM. http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/stor...?hub=TopStories
  22. Nocrap You wrote- " Developing sogtware that will help track down sexual preditors is a great contribution and Iam proud it was the result of a Canadian initiative." I heard it was the police who posed as the pedophile on his own computer and had nothing to do with software in this case. But infringement on privacy is an important aspect not to be ignored and how this will affect the popularity of the internet is not certain. To bad they can't develop the same kind of software to catch and convict the white collar "greedy oppurtunist capitalist" right in our federal government who rip the tax payers off for millions and don't get to serve a day.
  23. Newbie You wrote- " This can't be could news for dubya" What do you expect? There's a war going on and when that happens people start to get nervous concerning the economy. I think President G. Bush and allies did the right thing for America and the world but in a country like Iraq things can be expected not to go to well considering it's fractured political ideologies.
  24. scriblett You wrote- " What is you suggestion for an oath of allegiance." Actually I think that this country is so weak weak in leadership and dysfunctionally diverse that I don't think it QUALIFIES as a country initally. But if any my contribution would be: ' I pledge allegiance to the flag of Canada, and to the federation it stands for: one Nation indivisible with Rights and Freedoms for all'
  25. Betsy So what. Whats the point. It's the same as a flu outbreak and it's fought with antibiotics. Up to now authorities refuse to eliminate the source so little can be done to combat this type of terrorist activities.
