I believe that marriage is a religious institution. As such, I do not believe the state should have a greater role other than to provide civil unions. As PM, I would allow individual churches to decide how to define marriage. I would support gay and lesbian civil unions and I would allow each province's legislatures to define marriage as they saw fit.

Agreed. The NDP has a leader who is respectable (Layton) and I believe is running on a platform that is loyal to their left-wing voting base.

Why does he need to face down Cheryl Gallant? So far as I know she is very pro-life (as is Harper), and that's about the extent of her "problems". If she were a Liberal the press would be ignoring her as they do the very pro-life Liberals. But the Tories have been trying to keep her under wraps during the election to keep from aiding the Liberals big-scary-guy campaign on abortion and gay marriage. If he faces her down, it will be fore show. Harper has shown he is okay with allowing his MPs to have their own view, and I respect that. Hopefully, as PM, he will follow through on that.

140 is long way from your pathetic 113, August1991. Too bad Andrew Coyne is not working for MLW instead of the NP, because here he would have the freedom to say how he really predicts this election will go. (163 is my guess.) I am sticking with 134 CPC seats (with a margin of error of 4 seats)...

Yes! What I have been saying all along...especially because WE pay for it...
-
I have never been there so this really means nothing to me but you still don't lock the door anyway???
-
So using your logic, it is OK for a government-sponsored media outlet to be biased.
-
Because they are paid by this country's leftist governments... Maybe its time to pull the plug. Agreed.
-
OK then...you have earned the right not to lock your door. But seriously, you aren't concerned about a random event? Especially when, I assume, you live in a house?

Because they are paid by this country's leftist governments...

The Finance Minister holds the chequebook. Deciding not to do anything about it is just as immoral as doing it yourself. Martin is guilty whether Gomery says so or not, even just by association. If a mafia group laundered money like that, they'd all be guilty by association. I don't see the difference. The Prince is a good read, way beyond Martin though. Although Chretien did run it out of the PMO... But you know what? That is history...as are Harper's opponents after tomorrow...

Why we must prevent Harper from becoming PM

Liberated from this mortal coil, anyway. You couldn't be more left, , I mean right Bubber!!! -
I definitely have a renewed respect for the CBC after watching their coverage this election. Now if they would only axe Au Courant I'd be a happy camper.
-
Bubber, Do you live in a major urban area? I mean, seriously. There are reasons why we have locks on our doors...

This election also brings to mind government corruption. I have always said, history will not remember Paul Martin as a great PM or a good, clean guy. That is too bad, because I blame Chretien, not Martin. Martin was probably a fool for not knowing more, but I have always believed Chretien to be corrupt. Hopefully, Martin will be remembered as a better, cleaner guy than Chretien. I don't think that Paul Martin is such a good clean guy. He has underhandedly undermined his boss Chretien ever since he lost the leadership vote. He has also shown more recently that he is willing to lie, cheat and manipulate anyone and anything to reach his goal. - Flags of convenience, Belinda - cabinet job and demonize Harper and the military and then lie about it - attack ads rather than put forward his own platform. I don't think he is guity in terms of sponsorship...maybe foolish ignorance... You are right that since he has been in power he must have read Machiavelli's THE PRINCE about 50 times.

Yes, Thank God for Michael Moore who lies and distorts facts to prove his extreme left-wing points. You know Bowling For Columbine? One of the people in that film who was interviewed, one of the women in Toronto who said she never locked her doors, really does lock her doors...she is my colleague's mom. Apprently Moore persuaded his cast to say that to prove his leftist point.

Bush's first move after a PC victory ?
tml12 replied to Harare's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I would hope Gagliano would be sent along with Chretien... -
Just playing to the audience, I don't blame them, its how you sell papers. I think you're right. But that is where my problem with the CBC comes in: they should be selling to a national audience. They should not be biased. Of course, a newspaper of anglophone Quebec (the Montreal Gazette) will be pro-federalist, but the CBC should at leased show some restraint in their leftist bias. I should note, though, that in this election the CBC has gotten better. One will only hope they stay that way...
-
Oh that was about "manifest destiny" too... I love the left...we would not be a democracy without you...

Go CPC Go!!!

Yes, very good idea. Banning large donations screws both Liberals and NDP. The Conservatives have a membership base bigger than all the others combined, and most of their donations are under $100 That is because they are a populist party supported by common people (like me) who don't make a lot of money every year.

"...Clearly, in order to fool all the people all the time and to set US up for that most profitable of all political rackets, namely war, control and domination of the press, as well as all elements of the American media, is absolutely vital in a nation that once was characterized as being so abundantly wealthy in individual freedom. Such a nation would quickly recognize tyranny and be readily critical of any and all threats to its freedoms. Just as the first Nazi regime initially launched itself by securing a vital propaganda tool, think of the smashing advantage and experience the current Nazi regime has over the first via the total power of the Zionist media.... ...the Hitler regime was just a dry run for the real thing: the unending Nazi regime headed by members of the Bush and Clinton crime families. Grandpa Bush, Prescott, was Hitler's chief financier. He siphoned off the remaining Nazi Union Banking funds to launch the Bush family wealth. And yet more Nazi funding and assets were used and transferred to create the "American" CIA. Nazi intelligence agency operatives transferred under Grandpa Bush to the CIA launched many covert operations in South America with the intent of giving the Reich a new start in this hemisphere..." This is ridiculous. You know, extremisits have no right to debate policy. Extreme left, extreme right...you are all the same. I am not a bug Bush fan, but you know what? He has done some good things and he has helped the people in Iraq out a lot, regardless of what the extreme communist left might think. I do not believe for one minute the ridiculous stuff you are passing off as "truth"...

Harper's inexperience - this is serious folks

To me, the Conservatives are the only choice. The Bloc is separatist. The NDP is socialist. The Liberals are, oh my--in one word, corrupt and cataclysmic, awful. But I understand people voting NDP or Bloc. At least they don't need to clean shop.

Why we must prevent Harper from becoming PM

You know those lefties don't believe freedom is important, they'd rather see dictatorships that occasionally feed their people in order to raise armies or what not. The left says only the right is hypocritical. You know what? We do what is best for the country. The right-wing is patriotic and supports our armed forces and those who defend our freedom. The left in this country would have us rally around our supposedly socialistic health care system which, , isn't even left-wing anymore.
