We did it, we did it and when the Flag went up I actually heard real Canadians singing our anthem. How wonderful after being told by Americans that the reason we didn't sing it was because it was too hard to sing. I second the congratulations to our team but was that last comment really necessary? How many times I bite my tongue when I meet Americans on vacation and they say "tell us really do Canadians hate us" and I have to say that the odious minority doesn't speak for the moderate majority? Well.. how many?!! cmon dont hold out on us. Most Americans I meet when I vacation here say they like Canada and we don't talk much about anything else. When I meet liberal Americans and they find out I am a Conservative Canadian they get confused cause they don't think Canada has conservatives in it... When I meet conservative Americans they say that they agree Canada is important but they hated the anti-Americanism prevalent in some parts of Canada. I told them I couldn't agree more and that was that. Unlike the far left in Canada and the far right in the states most Americans and Canadians want a strong North America and everyone reasonably close to the centre should be damn thankful for that.

uOttawaman, "I say we elect TML for prime minister." Good sir, I think you're fantastic. And I couldn't agree more...do you know how good I'd be in Ottawa??? "Because I feel that way about all the parties. Too self interested and concerned with their own preservation and advancement. " I would put all Canadians first and reward our friends and punish our enemies. My party would not look to preserve itself at the expense of Canada. Yet we would work hard to bring residents from all parts of Canada together to strengthen every region of this country and sacrifice no one and regard no one region as better than another region.

The NDP vote is stronger in University ridings. Look at Ottawa Centre... eek. no doubt...if I had $5 for every "stop Harper" pin displayed around some of the Montreal campusses I'd be richer than Paris Hilton overnight (not quite as sexually appealing though... ). University students have never, for the most part, experienced real-world issues and been in the business world. Most of my parent's friends who were socialists during their university years are now either moderates or moderate conservatives. You change...most people do. Anyways, so Ottawaman doesn't go crazy with me I'd say that there are a lot of well-intentioned people in the NDP, just I don't think the party understands what is necessary to raise Canada to the position of being a real power in this world.

why does the MSM talk about Gore anymore? it's not like his done anything since the Supreme COurt gave him an early retirement?

... tabun. It also makes then pretty easy targets for exposing their errors. Then again, they come back much later and accuse people of *bullying* them for doing so. Agreed... As for Tabun, I have heard of it but I don't know anyone who speaks it...sorry (good luck though).

Al Gore attacks new, 'ultra-conservative' Canadian PM
tml12 replied to Shady's topic in Canada / United States Relations
Argus, We usually agree but OMG Harper is no where near as left as Hillary Clinton. Harper is centre-right. Hillary has always been left of centre-left Bill and is now trying to appear a moderate to appeal to middle-America voters. Harper is a moderate right-winger, left of Bush for sure, but right nonetheless... -
Shoop, I speak a few languages...not all fluently but maybe I speak yours? I would argue we have some alcoholics on this board. It isn't necessarily a bad thing...in fact, I think it helps them get to their point a bit earlier...

Most of the time posting I've had a few drinks, hence my poor grammar and spelling. Those people that are that far left of the NDP should just pack up and move to Cuba and see how its like there. Silver-spoon socialists are the problem with our current 'culture of entitlement' society. And this concept stretches way beyond the Liberal party and its supporters. Agreed, I never said I never had a few drinks, just not VERY many... Silver spoon socialists are the worse kind...they're just elitist and are the first to abandon socialism...they also probably never worked the night shift at a dep in their life.

Sounds like my story, except that I have joined the blue tide. I am even currently thinking about the law enforcement path too, just I don't think I'll ever get into the areas I'd like so I'm probably scapping that plan (how many people can they possibly have in economic crime??), wouldn't want to be stuck as a street cop forever... You'll be a conservative soon enough moving out here and being a police officer (RCMP I'm assuming?)... I'm from a middle class Roman Catholic family as well but I live in a red Liberal riding (people on Montreal's West Island may have heard of the CPC but all I know is that they won't vote Conservative...EVER... ) It would seem to me if you were a cop you'd have more conservative views on defence and crime. I'm not saying you'll become real right-wing like many CPCers...just that you'll become a bit less socialist. I knew a few people who were cops and pretty moderate with their politics. Yet they got pissed off after seeing the same easy sentences from left-wing judges who they argued were pampered and elitist and never EVER on the street dealing with crime. They said, "we deal with these people screwing around with drugs, muggings, vandalism every week and the judge releases them ASAP... next night they're out screwing around again...it's bull." Neither the Libs nor the NDP is tough on crime. I think you may soon embrace CPC elements (I was still pretty leftist when I was in university... )

Intelligence? That doesn't say a lot about where you'd end up gerry...

How does one go to a "language gathering?" But what you're saying is true. The only time in reality I ever got into trouble for talking politics is when a friend of mine invited me to a party back home in Montreal (seems so far away when you're on vacation... ) and his friend was like way left of the NDP and talked about how the free-market was stupid and the armed forces should be disbanded and we shouldn't have prisons. Needless to say after a few cocktails I was asked to leave the party (my friend and I worked things out later...thankfully) but that's why I don't even drink when posting... A little respectful e-smak is OK...

The last guy that said that was Trudeau. And you know what happened to the NEP. The thing I worry about is that when the U.S. enters a transaction, they tend to do it only if they get the better deal or upper hand. That's been their tradition. Of course. And why shouldn't it? If I were PM, I would want to do what's best for my country, regardless who I was entering into agreement with. The U.S. has got a bad name for this exact reason. Banning our beef by closing the borders, the softwood lumber deal, trying to access the caribou reserve for oil, and on and on. I'm just saying it's a pattern with the U.S. gov't. I don't know if they understand the term "fair deal." It's never good policy to bitch, it's always good policy to negotiate with your friends.
-
"So how do we do that. The US made a mess of our beef cattle farming", A cow in Alberta made a mess of our beef cattle farming...surely this is obvious but if you're blaming the U.S. for that you must be a real lefty. "they owe us millions on the Nafta agreed lumber deal," That's true and thankfully we have a Conservative government that will negotiate in good faith and not use it as an election issue based on typical anti-American Liberal rambling. "they have the oil deal set up so that we cannot give our own people cheaper oil. So what is next Water. Yes lets do some real planning and quit giving everything away." Now you're just getting annoying. You're as bad as you say the Americans are.
-
They'd have to clean up the debt and live in rural Alberta and Saguenay for a year before even thinking about a majority... Lol I don't care.. I'm prob gonna move to Alberta for employment in the police sector anyway.. lol. Might as well get Lib dollars out of it.. hahaha You're going into law enforcement? Interesting... Call me when you discover the CPC...

Ottawa, This is scary but... I back you on that (am I now eligible for immigration status to your country... )

Geoff, "The Bush admin is not resemblant of classical liberalism. More so than the Dems, but the GOP is so far away from liberalism I can't even draw the line." We must remember there are two types of liberalism: American Liberalism=In a nutshell, moderate socialism. Big government programs (left-wing economically), lots of personal freedoms (left-wing socially). Classic Liberalism=Reminiscent of libertarianism, small government (right-wing economically), lots of personal freedoms (left-wing socially). The Bush admin is pro-small government in dealing with the corporate world. Their fiscal policy and also their social policy is closer to social authoritarianism than classic liberalism. -
Name one. Well apparently I'm an asshat for one, but I can deal with that. And then, apparently now its a crime to disagree with tax cuts, when money could be spent elswhere. Put those together and what do you get? An apparently valid reason to get rid of a non-violent political party. GG logic. Well, uOttawaman, after you called me an asshat I figured right away it had to take one to know one... I'm on vacation right now and am only commenting on selective posts but this one blew me away. At least the CPC is in power unlike the NDP. That's all I'll say for now. That's just all I'll say for now...

I think that's the dumbest thing I ever heard. Stop telling people who they should be allowed to vote for. If they want to vote for the Marxist-Leninist Party, they damn well have the right to, if they want to vote for the CPC , they have the right to. This is Canada, not the US. Two party systems are fricking awful. Never bring forth that idea again. Since you like keeping your voting rights how about leting me keep mine FREE SPEECH. If I think we shoud change our voting system to the United States thats my right to think so not yours. Oh yes i do support CPC! I just happan to think its a good idea, considering the NDP will never gain power . Whats this marxist lenist part? I know who they are but these guys most municipalaities cant even vote for them because they are not an official part nor do they have a single seat its a dead cause like the mariwana and the green party, alhtough greens were close By the way ottawa ive read through your posts, your oppinion arnt welcome here! the people just find you annoying! That doesn't even make sense.. we should get rid of a party because it will never "gain power"... think up a concrete reason and get back to me. I'm just as welcome here as you are, so you can stick it in your eye. You're right uOttawaman about the NDP...it should exist, of course. However I am glad you realize that the NDP will never gain power and, by effect, is about as notable as the Green Party except in minority gov't circumstances.

Margrace, What I Want: NOW: A positive, open trading relationship with the States. LATER: A better way of creating fuel efficiency and cars that are not oil dependant. Alberta and Texas will run out of oil eventually, that is true. The point is we plan now for then and we create better trade relationship with the U.S.

"You gotta remember anonymity brings a lot out in people..." My friends who read my posts on this forum have often told me that... E-smack is okay as long as it doesn't get vulgar. We musts remember we're all human and all our views are important.

Oil isn't the future anyway...it's going to run out soon.

Al Gore getting loonier by the day

Between NAFTA and the GST, so did Chretien and Martin. Of course they're claiming credit for something they inherited. Then when they decided killing the debt over a few years wouldn't be fast enough to support their growing ambitions, they looted the provinces to balance the budget. Any idiot can rob Peter to pay Paul. That they run on that record, and that they're proud of downloading their problems to the provinces, is just disgusting to me. I love the Liberals... 1993-1997=They use the CONSERVATIVE GST to beat the Conservatives, then break their promise, then balance the budget with it... 1997-2000=Chretien buys the 97 election with sposnorship money. Libs need to fix Quebec ridings to ensure victory against a western-based party, a Quebec-based party, and a party with two seats. 2000-2004=More corruption tax dollars wasted, more budget/healthcare cuts, Romanow report says healthcare funding needs to be restored to the original level if healthcare is to be saved as single tier... ...fast forward to 2006: Martin runs election campaign AGAINST GST cut and as head of a Liberal party who, he says, is the saviour of Medicare... Seems like the Chretien/Martin Liberals destroyed healthcare with the budget cuts while the GST poured money into Ottawa to save it (among other social programs)... Yes, irony is as much a political as it is a literary element...
