  1. In other words, you have no valid counterpoint.
  2. No, no hatred, no lies, but maybe some fear as we watch regime change in the US. Better than the delusions of the Trump supporters.
  3. Trump and Musk are not cutting funding to scientific research for any lies, but for their own nefarious plan to take over the government, using ideology as the pretext. They are indeed the liars.
  4. It's official. Autocracy has arrived to the US. The US authoritarian has made it clear. He posted this on the official White House account. "He who saves his Country does not violate any law."
  5. Conservatives are the first ones to cry foul when science is funded by special interests. They cite "big money" funding as the number one reason they do not trust the science. Then, they turn around and say government funding, which would be more impartial, should be halted, too. It just sounds like Conservatives are anti-science.
  6. You need to get out more.
  7. But this is not what Trump and Musk have been targeting. Yeah, I am sure that is Musk's motivation /s
  8. No evidence of fraud has been put forward. This is just the smoke Trump and Musk use to blind you.
  9. Hmm ... I don't buy this analogy that science is a "product." Science is the advance of knowledge, and to put limits on it is to put limits on the advancement of knowledge. Where ideology trumps science, to the point that science is rejected, only negative consequences for society can result.
  10. You do understand that AI is technology? Who do you think controls it? Musk's AI-first strategy is well-documented
  11. You conflate your prejudices with reality.
  12. You joke, while the US undergoes regime change that will devastate all it has ever been.
  13. Massive layoffs at the Department of Education, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, the Office of Personnel Management, the Environmental Protective Agency, the General Services Administration, the Small Business Administration and USAID. Why? Because Musk wants to replace the bureaucrats with technocrats. He wants the government run by AI. What a boon to his company xAI!! It’s an AI coup. Elon Musk’s AI-Fueled War on Human Agency
  14. A lot of research will be impacted by this, and it's naive to think otherwise. An oppressive atmosphere has been created, and it goes against what I thought the US stood for.
  15. You don't see the parallel? scientists being silenced by the powers that be
  16. I want to thank you for the informative post. All we can do is present the facts, and I hope you continue to do so.
  17. Yeah, that's what they said to Galileo Galilei just before the Inquisition sentenced him.
  18. And what it stands for - which is freedom and democracy. From the third inaugural address of FDR given in January, 1941: To us there has come a time, in the midst of swift happenings, to pause for a moment and take stock- to recall what our place in history has been, and to rediscover what we are and what we may be. If we do not, we risk the real peril of isolation, the real peril of inaction…. The destiny of America was proclaimed in words of prophecy spoken by our first President in his first Inaugural in 1789-words almost directed, it would seem, to this year of 1941: "The preservation of the sacred fire of liberty and the destiny of the republican model of government are justly considered. . . deeply, . . . finally, staked on the experiment intrusted to the hands of the American people." If you and I in this later day lose that sacred fire—if we let it be smothered with doubt and fear- then we shall reject the destiny which Washington strove so valiantly and so triumphantly to establish. The preservation of the spirit and faith of the Nation does, and will, furnish the highest justification for every sacrifice that we may make in the cause of national defense. In the face of great perils never before encountered, our strong purpose is to protect and to perpetuate the integrity of democracy. For this we muster the spirit of America, and the faith of America. We do not retreat. We are not content to stand still. As Americans, we go forward, in the service of our country, by the will of God. That's just silly. I don't want war. But let's put the blame for this where it belongs - on Putin. Because he has the will, the resources and the power to destabilize the entire world
  19. Lol, but you accept Trump's? At least mine are based on fact. You are a victim of perception bias While this does make decision-making easier, it also leads to a lot of established assumptions, beliefs, or attitudes that are known as unconscious biases. These biases twist our perception with overly simplistic and inaccurate assumptions about who an individual is Perception bias: How to recognize and avoid it it is based on fact
  20. No, I wasn't. That's your interpretation, and it is a misreading of my posts. No, the US has a very important role to play. It seems, though, that Trump may abandon his responsibility to the world. The right and just end would have Ukraine reclaiming all their territories. Unfortunately, this seems unlikely. Yes, I would supports troops sent to contain the madman Putin. We have fought and died for what was right before. This is one of those times. if the Ukrainian authorities are forced to cede land in exchange for peace, Vladimir Putin’s entire invasion will be legitimized and his imperial appetite will only grow. The West may succeed in securing a temporary respite at Ukraine’s expense, but the threat of an expansionist Russia will remain and the ultimate cost of stopping Putin will only rise. Forcing Ukraine to cede land will only increase Putin’s imperial appetite
  21. Is there anything you won't accept from these autocrats?
  22. the first link - The Trump administration is restricting research funding through keywords
  23. I never said the US contribution wasn't important. Clearly, it is very important. My point is that they are not in it alone, and there are many countries doing what they can. But it would be a grave error for the US to give up their leadership role in the world, to give up their global place as the protector of democracy. We can't let autocratic rulers have their way. The consequences to the world would be severe. Well, we can't make the wild assumption that this war is "endless." Sure, everyone wants peace, but if you think appeasing Putin will lead to "peace and no more war' you are wrong. Yes, global stability outranks the imperialist design of Putin. Besides, I always understood that it is best to stand up to a bully.
  24. This is how censorship works in Trump's America. A list of about 100 words has been compiled (see the complete list at this link) – words that are flagged in papers submitted to the National Science Foundation for funding. If any of the words appear, the research will not be funded. Examples of offending words: Disability Diversity Equality Female (but not male) Gender Inclusivity Minority Racial/racism Trauma Victim Women (but not men)
