Are Republicans For or Against IVF?
Matthew replied to Matthew's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
It was unclear. What I got out of your response is that you would rescue the tray of frozen cells and let the ten year old burn to death. Hence me trying to confirm if that's literally what you meant. -

Yes, the couple was mad that the clinic's error ended their chance of ever having a kid. The lawyer got clever and used alabama's anti-abortion law to claim that the error was a more serious offense akin to manslaughter and the alabama supreme court agreed and ruled that by law the frozen embryos are considered children in Alabama. -

So far conservatives in this thread have did they are ok with IVF as long as they don't do the things that 100% of IVF involves. -

Ok so a ten year old child vs a labaratory tray of 100 fertilized cells. You're saying you would rescue the tray of cells and let the ten year old burn to death? -

Quote the law in question where it says dispensers must be placed in boys bathrooms. -

"At the time he retired, he was the command sergeant major of the Minnesota National Guard's 1st Battalion, 125th Field Artillery, the top enlisted rank for the formation." Military.com atricle Aug 12 Though I have seen complications to this regarding the less-than-straightforward method in which national guard ranks work. But its inaccurate to call his claim to being this rank a lie. -

The law in question does not require dispensers be put in boys bathrooms. -

No. But if someone under your care who looked like a boy needed a tampon would you give it to them or just be triggered about it? -

False, but response should be proportional. Of course parents can. But students also have rights. Some kids have abusive parents so, for example automatically outing students to their parents can have dangerous consequences. There hasnt been a food shortage in the US for many decades. The US is the #1 oil producer in the world. Yet we still have to buy from the #2 and #3 oil producer, each of which are awful dictstorships. That's why it's in our strategic interest to reduce oil consumption with things like higher fuel efficiency and not using petroleum for electricity. Not a real thing. Democrats also go to jail for corruption just like republicans do Stop supporting criminal politicians. Perpetual? Youre attacking a veteran and one does not have to be a combat veteran to serve honorably. -

He didn't, the law just generally provides them for anyone who needs them and doesn't specify anything about gender nor require that they be put into boys bathrooms. -

I don't think you'll ever get republican lawmakers to admit that frozen fertilized cells are not the same as children. -
The World...and it's real size OR Why should we care?
Matthew replied to Nationalist's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
Many counties experience so-called brain drain because their most educated people immigrate to north America. That's why there are so many engineers, scientists, and doctors not native to America. On the other end of the spectrum The vast majority of food in North America is produced by Latinos. Meatpacking plants, agricultural work etc. And much of that is seasonal migrant labor. Most white people would rather be jobless than do these jobs. -

Oof these same lines again. I almost thought you were about to engage in thinking and have a real conversation. Keep trying, everyone gets better with practice. -

For real. Any 2 minutes of a trump speech is enough to figure out that guy is a lying know-nothing dirtbag grifter. But there's plenty of self-degrading shills pretending he's normal or literally an anointed chosen one. -

Rapid destruction of the economy and widespread shortage of food and consumer goods. Meaning what, specifically? We live in a world that's headed for centuries of demographic decline and yet millions of people want to live in North America, which overall profoundly benefits from immigration. Which restrictions? Society naturally has to safegaurd its people from harm caused by powerful businesses and industries, which are guided more by profit than by the common good of a nation. -

Exactly. The current issue in the US is that republicans have painted themselves into a corner by allowing a minority of hardline anti-abortion evangelicals to decare that all fertilized cells have the exact same legal status as children. Yes the vast majority of republicans and democrats support IVF. But the republicans are so far unable to pass any law that protects IVF without contradicting the increasingly radical position they've staked out on abortion in some states. -

Desperate strech What? He signed a bill allowing free tampons in schools for anyone who needs them. This line of attack leads directly to the guy looking good to most voters. Most people think he's likable. You're desperate. -

This year the Alabama Supreme Court used the anti-abortion law in that state, (which defines ferilized cells as children) and upheld the prosecution of a clinic that accidently destroyed a couple's last remaining fertilized eggs. On top of this some big evangelical Christian groups are coming down as being anti IVF. So yeah what you're describing is common sense. If a building was on fire and you could only save a 10 year old or tray of 50 fertilized eggs, everyone would pick the 10 year old. -

I agree, and the death of ferilized cells is a frequent part of the natural reproduction attempts too. Many artifically fertilized eggs don't develop normally or don't make it to the blastocyst stage needed for implatation. The source i quoted earlier estimated that it often takes about 10-12 human eggs to achieve one normal healthy embryo capible of being used for IVF. Only because the leftover embryos in Louisiana are sent out of state to be used or destroyed. Also the existing Louisiana law does not regard a fertilized egg as having the full legal status of a child, as in alabama. They define a fetus produced via IVF as a "juridical person" much like business entities or partnerships, with some rights, but not the same as a fully developed human. Next, existing Louisiana law does allow embryos to be destroyed if they do not reach the viable blastocyst stage within 36 hours. So no, doctors in louisiana have not changed the procedure at all and it still involves the same destruction of fertilized cells. But are you ok with these legal compromises louisisna has used for many years? -

But not in a way in which zero fertilized eggs (embryos) are destroyed. What you're in fact suggesting is that IVF is ok, as long as it doesn't happen the way it medically has to be done. -
