  1. Well I think I just answered that twice, but you seem to be genuinely asking. Where your question goes astray is "in order to belong." We can define and list out the traits and norms popularly associated with femininity within a culure. But how people think about and perform their personality is more complex and varied. Most things listed as masculine or feminine behavioral traits are in reality not mutually exclusive. Its a bit like the difference between the concept of race and the concept of ethnicity. Someone might have a very physical idea of what an asian person looks like. But if asked for a list cultural traits associated with Asian ethnicities, you couldn't use that list to define if someone is asian or not.
  2. This method of attack reeks of desperation. Keep up the good work. 👍
  3. BD is making the common distinction between biological sex being the physical traits and gender being the non-physical cultural traits and immaterial social norms. BD's list of cultural traits widely associated with femininity is true in our culture but doesn't automatically define an individual person as being a man or woman.
  4. Well there are millions of fat women who belch and fart like anyone else. Though I get what you mean. I'm not super well-versed in the theories about gender but what you're implying is that someone is presenting themselves to the world as stereotypically male in their behaviors and clothing, etc but at the same time has a uterus and other physical sex characteristics of women? You're asking if it's possible for this person to identify as a woman? Of course. Its extremely common and widely accepted (even among conservatives) for women to dress and act in ways that that were once strictly masculine. Women wearing pants was not acceptable for example.
  5. It's adorable that you think a MAGA hat is definitively masculine. Literally marketing from a highly emotional NY dandy in makeup and spray tan.
  6. What's your basis for claiming this person is a man?
  7. Its interesting that even though this is a woman with natural hormonal differences, the right wing consensus is that it still needs to be dealt with. A lot of top athletes excel at their sports because of biological traits that exceeds what is normal. why is your natural level of testosterone different? I always thought this was about policing masculinity, but I think this case and others like it suggests that it's really about policing femininity. Britney Griner looks like a man they say. Caitlin Clark has a slightly protruding Adam's apple, etc. It's a bizarre fixation.
  8. I see lots of conservatives trying to be irate about this. But isn't the albaiban boxer in question literally a woman? Granted not a particularly feminine woman, but from what I've read not a transgender person as many people are claiming.
  9. This thread started with right wing racial bigotry, not neutral passing suggestions about race.
  10. Her dad was black and she grew up around black people. So that's not the same as me traveling to mississippi and pretending to to speak with a southern accent.
  11. All the things you've listed are just ideas for improving society. What's a policy idea you have for improving a social problem that would not be considered woke?
  12. Oakland is 25% black, and yes what you're hearing is African-American vernacular.
  13. Oh are you arguing that Kamala Harris does not possess any black culture and was purely just making this up? Even though she's half black and has been around black people most of her life?
  14. Alright, I can relate. I'm glad we can agree this is a normal thing. So, she's doing what you admit you also do. But she's doing it more and you believe we should all be offended by it? How does one do that?
  15. Yes, a bit. She moved in like 6th grade and doesn't have a southern accent normally. People can have more than one culture in their life.
  16. My wife is from Mississippi and she's lived in the Midwest since middle school. When we visit down there and we're surrounded by her extended family, her way of taking changes.
  17. Donald Trump's public speaking behavior is a meme and he's mercilessley ridiculed for it every day. It's very different from his private speech patterns.
  18. Actually it probably does and you don't even realize it. It's a well-documented phenomenon. I know what you mean though. I'm a teacher and when my kid first saw me talking to my students he couldn't get over how differently I talked and I didn't know what he meant. However, its a bigger change when switching to an entirely different subculture like Harris is doing here and she's probably exaggerating it for effect.
  19. You really should seek help. Ruminating on paranoid delusions and violent fantasies like you do is not healthy.
  20. Most of them don't and never have.
  21. This is a winning attack line that you should definitely keep using until November. You guys got this in the bag for sure now. Not sure why you're so mad about a basic fact of human communication.
  22. Nah everyone code switches. When you're speaking to your kids vs adults, work people vs family, middle class vs working class etc. It's a natural thing everyone does. Definitely politicians will deliberately do it to seem more relatable.
  23. Nice. Has he changed his mind again and agreed to the September debate? Last I heard he was chickening out.
  24. Code switching is very common for black people who have to navigate different cultures. Obama did this as well when speaking to a more heavily black audience. It's so interesting how right wing people just can't help themselves.
  25. Is there a point to this thread or is it just going to be a collection of right wing talking head videos?
