Yes, indeed, it is everywhere and everywhen. -

Look, I know you're not very bright, but is there some fixed number of times that someone needs to repeat the point that white privilege has nothing to do with the law before you stop conflating the two? I've done it several times already, but if there is some number you have in mind- 7, 12, whatever -I can just get them all out of the way now. Once more for good measure, white privilege has nothing to do with the law. It is a social construct. Like overt racism and systemic racism, it exists entirely independent of the law. -

Seriously? I have to "prove" that Black Americans have been and continue to be treated unfairly? That's really an open question for you? I've linked to multiple studies in this thread- among hundreds on the subject -but those will be hand-waved away, I'm sure. Because honestly, if people aren't already aware of the unfair treatment it's not because of a lack of research. That's not the barrier. Perhaps obliviousness? Naivete? Willful ignorance? At any rate, it rather neatly proves my point about empathy. It's downright sociopathic to stand in the midst of a throng crying- and crying out -about mistreatment and not take that shared experience even a little to heart. I'd place a bet that you could name literally any aspect of society, from access to jobs, housing, food, education, justice--whatever--and it'll take about 30 seconds to find the studies identifying the systemic racism at work. Wanna play that game? Try a few for yourself. Take a look at the data and tell me that if you were to be reborn tomorrow, with no control over your circumstance save the choice of "race," that you would choose to be reborn as anything other than white. It's not even a close contest. The social advantages are built into the skin color, bestowed by accident of birth. -

That's some powerfully circular logic, lol. Also, you can't be serious with that source. Should go without saying, but all of that arrest, conviction and sentencing is disproportionate even when controlling for variables. This is not new or controversial. Common knowledge, dozens-- maybe hundreds-- of studies over the last 50 years. But just to streamline it for you, look at sentencing alone. An analysis found black men’s sentences are 19.1 percent longer than white men’s, even after controlling for criminal history and other factors. Again, there are TONS of studies on this subject and they all find the exact same thing: justice is not blind. Hell, some of the discrimination is plainly built in, with higher mandatory minimums for crack cocaine than powdered cocaine. Well, the solution is pretty obvious, no? If discrimination retarded the progress of generations by deliberately excluding people from good jobs, neighborhoods and schools we can reverse some of the disparity by deliberately including those affected in good jobs, neighborhoods and schools. Forever and ever, including through today, whites have had the advantage of the benefit of the doubt--to the detriment of others. That's something we can change. -
Wow, I'm surprised you'd make such accusations against the Trump administration without evidence. Or maybe musk you the files he didn't sent to Taibbi? Taibbi tweeted "there’s no evidence — that I've seen" that the federal government had a role in suppressing the Hunter Biden laptop story, but that "the decision was made at the highest levels of the company, but without the knowledge of CEO Jack Dorsey, with former head of legal, policy and trust Vijaya Gadde playing a key role."
-
I think you're conflating a few different things here. Twitter suppressed the laptop story for 1 day, not at the request of any political operative, but out of their own desire to NOT be weaponized against the American people as they were in 2016. Once bitten, twice shy. Remember, that story was so sketchy when it broke that the original writers at the NY Post wouldn't put their name on it and FOX wouldn't cover it. That's how suspect the whole thing was. Do you really think it's unreasonable for Twitter to deliberate internally for a day about whether or not they should give a global platform to a potentially election-swaying story with potentially stolen files of wildly improbable provenance? Reading those emails is watching them suffer through that deliberation. Rock and a hard place. I think they did okay.

There is nothing to "admit." The laws have nothing to do with the concept of white privilege, which is a social construct rather than a legal one. This thread is just as silly as someone claiming that racism ended with the equal rights act. OP clearly has no idea what white privilege is, and it's become clear that you don't either. There's another thread already so I don't feel compelled to retread that definition again. And yes, systemic racism has shaped our entire society from the ground up. There are people all across the country today living in houses deeded with racial covenants. (Most famous as a topic in A Raisin in the Sun.) And even after they were not legally enforceable they were enforced socially. Imagine that your parents-or you if you're old enough, were deliberately and systematically excluded from good jobs, good neighborhoods and good schools. No problem? You're in the exact same position today? Like someone waved a wand in 1968 and suddenly your playing field was untilted? Nonsense. 20 years ago, a resume with a distinctively Black name was 50% less likely to land an interview than the EXACT SAME resume with a conventionally white name at the top. Today it's down to 10% less likely. Good for us, I guess? But sure, systemic racism doesn't exist. Or Blacks being more likely to be arrested, more likely to be convicted and more likely to be given longer sentences than their counterparts. Sure, nothing to see there. And on and on. You have to have your head buried DEEP in the sand (or elsewhere) to be oblivious to the mountains of well-documented evidence confirming systemic racism. Like, it's not even a question. I can't believe this is a conversation. -
Would you like to make up some evidence to discuss now? Otherwise what are we even talking about? Is there some sort of credit system for outrage? -- "I wanna be angry about something today. I'll probably find some evidence to support my anger in the future." You seem to be in quite a huff about this whole twitter thing. You're making a lot of accusations. But you don't seem to have any evidence to support either the huff or the claims.

Yes, because it's another stupid thread started by a person who has no idea what white privilege is. -

Right. Same thing in the US. It's like people cannot bear to dispense with the fairy tales about our history and accept the past as fact. There is a legacy of cruelty and brutality wrapped up in this whole experiment. A long history of failures to live up to even basic decency, let alone the lofty ideals enshrined in the declaration of independence. Rather than learning from the past and vowing to do better, there's a big chunk of the population that simply wants to pretend that it didn't happen and that even if it did happen, everything today is magically hunky dory. Water under the bridge! -

Of course I didn't comment on the fact that sometime in history whites were also enslaved. Why would I? Is it in any way relevant to the societies populating either the US or Canada? Or to the white privilege baked into those societies? I think Sowell's nieces and nephews are probably right about him, but regardless, how is the core motivation for enslaving Blacks relevant to what actually happened in this country--to the facts and forces that shaped the Black experience through today? -

Hodad replied to reason10's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
There is a difference between feeling guilty about things one has done, and looking around from the privileged side of an unfair situation and acknowledging that it is unfair and seeking a remedy. Some people who are the beneficiaries of an unfair situation simply lack the empathy and integrity to acknowledge the unfairness, let alone the courage to mitigate unfairness in service of justice. -

This is a silly claim. There's actually quite a lot of research on achievement sliced and diced by demographic segment. There is plenty of anti-Asian racism in this country. The flavor is different, the stereotypes are different, but it's still there. What is very different is the history. As difficult as things have been for Asians in America, they weren't systematically destroyed for hundreds of years. Families were intact. Generational wealth was accumulated. And many families teach their children with rigorous discipline that they will have to work harder to go the same distance against the headwinds of discrimination. The Tiger Mom is a real thing--and it's not just the moms. Yes, that's a stereotype unto itself, but it's one born out of the Asian-American experience. -
You are mistaken, on multiple points. I know this all feels new and fresh and exciting, but most of what it bouncing around the conservative echo chamber is based on misunderstanding and misinformation. It's like I said a few days ago, there is nothing in those "Twitter email dumps" that is even a little bit surprising, let alone damning. That's going to be conversation at any large organization, particularly at a public content platform that engages in moderation. The laptop story was shut down for 1 day. Both in the documents- and as Taibbi's explicitly says in his commentary -there is no evidence of government involvement in the laptop story. And literally any organization or individual with enough clout can reach out to Twitter's moderation team and ask them to look into something. As Taibbi notes, both campaigns made such requests. -- And FWIW, only Trump was "the government" at that time anyway. There's a whole lot of nothing going on here. It's always possible that new information could change that, but today there just isn't anything here.

To be fair, a lot of people are asking, is there a hidden treasure map? -
1. Perjury is a legitimate crime. 2. If you think Republicans have somehow "learned from" the Democrats how to investigate and persecute officeholders over bullsh*t, made-up charges, you have a remarkably short memory. See Clinton impeachment circa 1998. 3. There is nothing made up or trivial about either of the Trump impeachments. He was unquestionably guilty of high crimes and misdemeanors--particularly in the first impeachment--but most of the Republicans voted politics instead of principle, so he was not convicted.

Trump (and Republicans): end Constitution
Hodad replied to myata's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
You are turning yourself inside out here. Yes, he absolutely said it, and he absolutely meant it. You want to have a sanitized, semantic discussion of "allows for" vs "should" as if those words exist in a vacuum. They don't. They are adjacent the insane suggestion that we kick Biden out of office and appoint Trump as President or have a new election. He's not "just askin' questions." He says "should we do it" and then follows it up with the rationalization that this scenario "allows for" the termination of all rules. The suggestion, followed by the rationalization. Frankly, that could not be more clear. -
Charts, tables, letters, numbers, words... Anyone can make them all in MS Word, so all of those things are untrustworthy and useless. ? Perhaps we can all rely on grunts and gestures?! Oh wait, anyone can make those... Guess there's no such thing as information. Lol. You are honestly-completely serious-the dumbest person I've met on the internet. It's mind blowing. How do you live day to day without choking on your own tongue? At some point, your fellow conservatives will beg you to stop posting because your association undermines any effort to be taken seriously. I'm not sure why they're not shutting you down already.
-
The "anyone can create a chart" had to be the dumbest goddamn deflection I've ever seen. You may as well say "anyone can type letters." A. A chart is just an expression of data. B. That's not a chart, it's a table. Full of numbers. C. You throwing stones at California when your state is nearly twice as bad makes you look*exactly* as smart as you are.

You have no clue what fascism means. Trump delivering the best economy is laughable. Forget the whole economy, can you cite even a single metric in which The Trump economy was the "best"? Jobs? Deficit? GDP growth? Pick something, find a primary source and go for it. I won't hold my breath. -
Snufflebutt, are you too stupid to follow a simple conversation? I didn't post a source because I simply read YOUR source, and then the article they are blogging about. If you had the wits to look at the source article that Red State was blogging about you wouldn't look so foolish. It's not hard. They link right to it. Just hover your cursor over it and click. And you should honestly stop trying to compare your work life to anonymous people on the Internet. It's a low-class move regardless of one's accomplishment and, frankly, you're in no position to be throwing stones at ANYONE. Your professor sounds as disgustingly racist as you. Gross. Neither of you should be allowed within 500 years of a school.

Of course, the SUPERIOR red state of Florida doesn't seem to have a problem with "To Kill A Mockingbird." During a Freshman writing/reading class in a local high school, the book came up in discussion. I was subbing for the class, (the teacher out with an extended illness.) All the horrific items in the book were explored in great detail. All the violence, the racism, etc. (Not surprising since the racists were all Democrats.) Personally I never cared for Harper Lee's books. I thought "Mockingbird" was poorly written and just seemed to ramble on. And "Go Set A Watchman" (the sequel to Mockingbird, where Atticus Finch wound up in the KKK) would have been a perfect substitute for Ambien, it was so boring. Then again, my historic author favorites were a much more eclectic class: Ayn Rand, Frank Yerby, Ludwig Von Mises, Adam Smith, Friedrich Hayek, etc. But somehow Harper Lee was able to parlay her friendship with that fag Truman Capote to get an inferior manuscript published. Oh, and those are OPINIONS. The fact that they might disagree with your bullshit does not automatically brand me a troll. The thread title was about a Pennsylvania school board deciding to violate state law and teach that one race is superior to another. But since you do not have the education to actually discuss the thread title because you think changing the subject will make you look clever, we're at this point in the discussion where I hurt a lot of retarded liberal feelings with my dislike of Harper Lee. When you are ready to grow a brain and discuss the actual subject of the thread, I'll be surprised, (as will the third grade teacher who flunked you out.) Hey, Snufflebutt, you're still lying. Red State is probably less reliable than the random people at Pinterest you like to cite. They are simply blogging about an article from an actual news source. They link to it. Click through and get to the actual story. No ban. Again, you demonstrate that you are absolutely useless at navigating information sources, and will believe anything you find convenient, no matter who says it or how preposterous. How many times have you sent money to a Nigerian prince?

Lol. You are like the "debate" version of T-ball. Opioid overdose rates per 100k California: 13.7 Florida: 26.9 Florida: 10-year-old?’: Child dies with heroin and fentanyl in his system And the medical examiner and expert testimony were unequivocal that Floyd died of cardiopulmonary arrest, NOT overdose. Someday you're going to surprise us and actually get something right--likely by accident. But, hey, it turns out Florida is better than California at something. Too bad it's ODing on opioids.

You were misled by googly-eyed media disinformation types. They managed to convince you that mostly peaceful protests against police brutality were actually evil Black people engaged in wanton destruction. And they managed to convince you that trucks sabotaging supply chains and shutting down businesses was peaceful and patriotic. When in reality both the vandalism and the sabotage racked up the same kind of costs -- much of it borne by small businesses and workers. Applause for the multi-billion dollar economic sabotage but damnation for the protestors? That's some top-notch white privilege there. You can call me a liar as much as you like. I don't think there is any question about who is credible and who isn't. If it weren't for lies and straw men, you'd have nothing to post here. Like this gem: "You wholeheartedly support the racist BLM riots, the arson, the looting, the assaults, the murders and everything else." ? Go play with your straw buddies some more.
