It speaks to the focus on the book. It is not about self-improvement, but conquest. This is something you guys always do in defense of Islam. You pretend to equate the books despite them being so wildly different. There are no biblical quotes that instruct people to kill homosexuals that I'm aware of. Could you cite them? Something like this, for example? "And those two of you who commit it (the shameful act), torture them both". or As narrated by Sayyidna Ibn ` Abbas. ؓ the Holy Prophet ﷺ said: "If you find someone doing what the people of Lot did, kill both the doer and the one with whom it is done. (op. cit.) If the holy book is mostly about peace, especially if the nasty bits have been reinterpreted (as the gay ones in the bible have been) by religious scholars over the years, sure. Islam is not such a religion. It is filled with stories of conquest and torture and murder of the unbelievers, and champions doing such things. It is not merely a piece of it you have to ignore. The core of Islam is about conquering others. No, they don't. There are no Islamic scholars who say homosexuality is okay or that women should have the same rights as men. Oh, come on. This is not a discussion about how barbaric Christianity was in previous centuries. Glad I don't live there. Don't want to live among crazy, violent religious people. And yet, Islam has not done so. Every. Single. One? You were just mentioning earlier how different Muslim cultures are. Some are in the Pacific. Some in Central Asia, the Middle East and North Africa. How are all Muslim cultures across the world backward? We aren't 100 years ahead. We're several hundred years ahead. Islam has not had a reformation and won't. It is keeping Muslim countries back economically, scientifically, and socially. It's not like these countries have been in ignorance about the changes elsewhere over the past few centuries. They simply refuse to do the same. When Guttenberg invented the printing press it was banned in the Muslim world for 250 years. More books were translated into Spanish last year than have EVER been translated into Arabic. There are 9 technicians, scientists and, engineers per 1000 people in the Muslim world vs 141 in the West. The principal topic of study in all Muslim countries from kindergarten through university is Islam. Those who know about China would still say it. It's still a brutal, autocratic regime that practices torture, murder, and genocide. Do you want to live under such a regime?

Islam hasn't been weaponized, unless you mean by Muhammad. Right from the start it was used to justify attacking 'unbelievers', to allow the theft of their property, to allow the rape and enslavement of their women. Muhammed once famously used it to draw recruits to his intended war on a the Byzantines by mentioning the 'golden' women, ie, blondes they would have. Blondes have been a fixation among Muslims ever since, and they can have a very hard time in Western cities with high Muslim populations now. I have personal acquaintance with this issue n schools.

Some scholar, I think it was Sam Harris, once said two-thirds of Islamic texts were concerned with 'kafirs' and almost all of that is very bad. In the Quran, for example, which is taken by Muslims as the LITERAL word of God, you are commanded to hate unbelievers. Even if you are related to them, you must hate them. Even if you have to disguise it on the surface, you must hate them inside you and never forget that you hate them. Islam deifies Arabic tribal values. You're either with them or against them. It commands its followers to take over the world. In Islam, there are the lands of peace, which are the ones that accept Islam, and the lands of war, which is everyone else. This is a religion that permits, even encourages attacks on unbeliever, says you can take anything that is theirs, including their women, rape and enslave them all you want. And as has been pointed out to you numerous times, unlike the Christians and Jews, Islam has never had a reformation period. Nor is any new interpretation of the Quran permitted, often under threat of death or imprisonment. No, the followers are bad because they follow a bad religion. Can you explain why all fifty Muslim majority countries make it illegal to be gay? Why none of them treat believers and unbelievers equally in law? Why none of them treat women and men equally? Is that all just 'cultural'? Why are all Muslim countries poor except those that had the luck to sit on land Westerners found oil in, developed that oil, and continue to run their oil infrastructure? Would you like to know something about Islamic banking and commerce laws that keep Muslim countries poor? No, probably not.

The climate change thing is a farce. First, they never say how much it will cost. Second, they never say what they expect to get from it. Because the answer to the first is two trillion dollars, and the answer to the second is nothing whatsoever. No discernible difference in world CO2 emissions. But hey, we'll get to puff out our chests and virtue signal about our noble efforts.

That's especially so with the religious migrants, most especially Muslims. They're okay with being meek when their numbers are tiny. The greater their numbers, the more strength they feel, the more they make demands for society to change to their way of liking. Muslims all over the world come to the West, fleeing the shitholes they came from, and then demand the West become more like the shitholes they came from. Indians and Sikhs are less rabid but just as chauvinistic, at least the current waves. Neither group has any interest in integrating.

It isn't just that we need less of it - much less - it's that we need different kinds of it. We do NOT need barely literate goat herders from Syria and Afghanistan filled with the zeal of Allah and the determination to make all lands the same as the shitholes they came from. We need intelligent, technologically skilled, flexibility-minded Western-oriented people.

Oh, in that case, my family retains the cultural, intergenerational narratives and values from a thousand years ago. I guess that means we're victims and being oppressed and we need to be compensated by just about everyone in the world Yeaaah, they need to get over themselves and stop whining. Lots of peoples have had terrible trauma and they didn't keep asking people to fund their hurt and feel sorry for them for generations afterward. Hell, the Irish fled poverty and starvation, not to mention generations of brutal repression, came to North America, where they were treated like savages, and they recovered pretty fast without ever asking anyone to feel sorry for them.

We're not talking about residential schools here, but Europeans taking over Canada. That didn't happen in the last century.

Yes, the CD Howe Institute is known for its economic incompetence... The problem is our present retirement system and economy is based on endless growth. If we keep needing to grow as our population ages then we need to bring over larger and larger numbers of immigrants every year to make it work. Or as they explain: In order to maintain the current dependency ratio, Canada would have to vastly increase immigration and by 2050 would be taking in 7 million immigrants per year and our population would be 65 million.

That hasn't stopped us from trying to grab up all their doctors and nurses...

Of course, the kind of immigrants we want are the skilled immigrants, the entrepreneurs who will start businesses here. I don't understand why we don't bring more of THOSE over. Gee, I wonder why.

The economists pointed out that trying to use immigrants to deal with an aging population is a ponzi scheme with no hope of success. We need to allow our population to decline to the point where housing is cheap, workers become valuable, and cities are less crowded. Then people will start having more kids.

Like I said, liberals. Our living memory? You remember life back before the Europeans came, do you? Probably. When the mass of 'newcomers' becomes the power, they'll get tired of all the mandated money going to non-working people and change the constitution, do away with all the treaties, and tell natives to work or starve.

And that would pretty much end the need for anyone to work at low-paying jobs. But I'm sure THAT wouldn't do any harm to our economy. All you lefties have these wonderful ideas about how to reorder society, but haven't got a bloody clue about human behaviour.

Took their land? Boohoo. You weren't taught any history? How sad for you. Clearly you lived under a liberal or NDP government. I learned that the place I'm from was invaded and largely conquered by the Romans who brutalized the population. Then, after they left, it was invaded and almost entirely occupied by the Vikings, who brutalized the population. Then, after they were driven off, it was invaded and occupied by the Normans, who brutalized the population. Are you starting to get the idea of how the entire world worked for most of human history? What we did to the natives was NOTHING compared to what they did to each other when they invaded each others territory, much less what was done to us when we were occupied. Look everywhere in the world and you see the same damned thing, but somehow, the only people still crying about it are the bloody indigenous people in the Anglosphere. So change the constitution. Rip it up and make a new one that doesn't indulge in racial prejudice.
