An Open Letter to my Conservative Brothers and Sisters: Yes, Trudeau has done a lot of damage to the freedom and coherent growth of Canada. Yes, the liberals who followed him in his cabinet own some of that shame. But, you're never going to win the election by cozying up to the worst aspects of Trump and the Republicans. How to win elections in Canada: 1. Don't attack your fellow Canadians. Jack Layton from the NDP is beloved even a decade later after he is gone because of his positive view of our nation. Jean Chretien is widely seen in the rearview mirror as one of our best Prime Ministers because he had what he articulated as "negative goals" - in other words his goals were to NOT let Canada be broken up, NOT allow the states to dominate our culture etc... Stop calling Liberals "libtards". You never win hearts, minds, or votes by denigrating people. And yes, that goes the other way as well. 2. Stop Making Destroying Things Your Priority Preston Manning said he was going to turn the Stornoway residence into a "Bingo Parlour". He never did. Conservatives have sold off Canadian resources, Canadian parks, Canadian scientists and labs, Canadian roads even. All for a quick buck. American Conservatives were the ones that CREATED the Federal Park system. Be a part of a "conserving" our national resources. Instead of just making alcohol available at every corner store, use the profits from the LCBO to pay for the financial deficits we have like our beautiful Health Care system. Stop talking about how much you want to destroy the CBC, it makes you look as capricious and cruel that you just want to sell off everything to lower taxes for billionaires. Stop arguing that environmental standards shouldn't exist, or that businesses can regulate themselves. Those should be the corner posts of a Conservative government. Smart regulation. 3. Build things. Conservatives should work at better building of relationships with small businesses and communities. Focusing strictly on families and corporations demonstrates short sightedness. If you focus on farmers, on workers, on UNIONS and building the middle class instead of just saying so, people would trust you more. 4. Don't ignore people's concerns. Like calling others names and claiming that "IT WAS ALL FIXED" _listen_ to Canadians, their concerns and build a platform on it. Just like the Liberals went too nuts with Wokeism, don't return by saying you'll have you own brand of authoritarianism. Build up actual democracy and make Proportional Government your do-or-die tent pole. The Liberals promised and failed. Don't fail when it's your turn. 5. Stop Identity Politics. Identity politics creates division. You can stand on the ground of EVERY citizen will be given equal rights and that builds unity. Identifying one group as more deserving of special rights than another never ends up as a good long term policy. It ends up building resentment, anger, and privilege. 6. Prove yourself as the Party of Smart Economics Every Conservative government in the past 40 years has put Canada in the red. Figuratively and Literally. Stephen Harper put Canada's finances at risk. Brian Mulroney took Canada back for years in the red until Paul Martin and Chretien brought us back into the black. Mike Harris from Ontario took a 300 million deficit from Bob Rae's NDP and made it a 7.2 billion dollar deficit after eight years of "common sense" and destroyed Ontario as the economic engine of Canada. It has never recovered. If you truly want to be considered the best on economic issues. Prove it. First by not selling as much off as you can. Or firing bureaucrats only to replace them with far more expensive partisan consultants or private contractors. Look for where you can make smart decisions in governmental overreach or duplication of services. Look at what would be the smartest things to do even with environmental regulations that suffer with Federal, Provincial, and Municipal standards. Make it EASIER for immigrants who are Doctors and specialists in their home nations to do what their experience and training has allowed them to do here. We shouldn't see credentialed doctors from other countries driving cabs in Canada. Be smart. 7. Be Canadian. That means don't call people mentally retarded for wanting to protect this country from foreign and domestic threats. Don't claim that people who are concerned of those are really just Chinese or Russian controlled agents. Be conservative in your memories of what makes this country great and independent. Build alliances across the nation. Not hatred, despair, division and derision. In the end, Conservatives, if you turn from your Reform far right agenda, and back to a more Progressive Conservative understanding of our nation, then you'll get even Doug Ford- the Trumpiest of Canadian Conservatives to support you. But Ford gets it. It's all about Canada. Trump is not someone to take lightly. And we all need each other to move forward. If you find a new leader willing to do those things. You'll be the next government, easily. You certainly would go a lot further to getting my vote to get rid of the arrogance and the damage the Liberals have done in the past 10 years to our nation.

After reading some of these posts for the past 6 weeks or so, the conservative party and leader losing the election is really a back breaker for some of you. What also occurs to me, especially with this thread about Carney "stealing" conservative platforms, policy or ideas is that you are not upset Carney won but that he is actually the leader that you all wanted or needed or wished to lead your party

Not at all but if you had been paying attention at all to most, if not all political press question periods, certain pressers get top ask question. It is very evident with Trump questions and answers but it is the same for all others. Not that the questions are selected but for sure, the questioners are selected. It is not liberal or conservative media, it is all media and selected by the staff of the person being questioned. In Canada, I see Carney responding even to embarrassing or alternative questions but, the questions posed to PP seem to be selected and rarely, if at all, to embarrass or put him in compromising situations.
