MAGA civil war starting?
BeaverFever replied to BeaverFever's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Hilarious that not even one of the right wingers was able to address the rift going on between the MAGA camps, instead going off on tangents about democrats and fruit pickers, neither of which have anything to do with this thread The new techbro billionaires who have Trumps ear want to bring in more high income global tech talent (not min wage fruit -pickers @West you dumbass) and they look down at the traditional blue collar uneducated MAGAs as dumb jocks who wallow in mediocrity. MAGA is an incoherent assortment of widely different levels of knowledge, agendas, and worldviews with little in common except a hatred of libs so bound to turn on each other. Not true at all. No Democrat or sane person has ever said it’s anti-working class to appoint qualified people to the job. It is anti-working Class to assemble your own oligarchy by appointing a cabinet full of billionaires to run the country and make all the major decisions, as if being an oligarch somehow makes you qualified. The hypocrisy is with the right who obsessed the qualifications of Kamala and of anyone who is not a cisgender straight white male, complaining that they’re not impeccable enough. No amount of post graduate degrees and prestigious previous positions is enough to satisfy the supposedly high academic standards of MAGAs (who themselves have little in the way of education or qualifications) But then when it comes to the clown car of hacks and cranks and grifters Trump is appointing suddenly formal qualifications don’t matter. Suddenly all that matters is that they have “common sense” and “good instincts” which “you can just tell” they have…by using your “common sense” and “good instincts”. No need for a formal education or any established record of accomplishment. -
MAGA civil war breaks out over American "mediocrity" culture A MAGA-world civil war erupted over Christmas when a social media post on American culture turned into a pitched battle over race, immigration and billionaires versus the working class. Why it matters: The fight exposes one of the MAGA movement's deepest contradictions: It came to prominence chiefly via the white, less-educated, working class but is now under the full control of billionaire technologists and industrialists, many of them immigrants. It also sets up a tense MAGA vs. DOGE moment that could infect the early stages of President-elect Trump's second presidency. While some want to make America great by restricting immigration and promoting the American worker, others want to cut costs and increase efficiency no matter who does the work. Catch up quick: The skirmishes started Sunday when Trump named venture capitalist Sriram Krishnan as his adviser on AI policy. Krishnan's appointment triggered an anti-Indian backlash on social media, particularly given his past advocacy for lifting caps on green cards. Vivek Ramaswamy escalated the conflict into a full-blown war Thursday morning with a poston X blaming an American culture that "venerated mediocrity over excellence" for the growth in foreign tech workers. "A culture that celebrates the prom queen over the math olympiad champ, or the jock over the valedictorian, will not produce the best engineers," Ramaswamy wrote, calling for a 1950s-style "Sputnik moment" to prioritize "nerdiness over conformity." "That's the work we have cut out for us, rather than wallowing in victimhood & just wishing (or legislating) alternative hiring practices into existence," he said. Between the lines: Elon Musk's X is the town square for the MAGA movement, and by stepping into that square and firmly criticizing American culture — while praising the immigrant work ethic and parenting model — Ramaswamy threw down a gauntlet. Musk spent most of the afternoon trying to defend his DOGE co-leader and explain his argument, framing it as using immigration to supplement, rather than replace, American workers. "Maybe this is a helpful clarification: I am referring to bringing in via legal immigration the top ~0.1% of engineering talent as being essential for America to keep winning," Musk wrote. The problem for many MAGA adherents, though, was accepting the very notion of immigrants telling them America needs more immigration to fill lucrative jobs in America. It revived old tensions around the H-1B visa, which is reserved for people who "perform services in a specialty obligation" but practically speaking has become a crucial tool of Silicon Valley's growth. In some recent years, as many as 75% of those petitioning for that visa came from India, from where Ramaswamy's parents immigrated. What they're saying: "The Woodstock generation managed to build out aerospace, the one before went to the moon, America was doing great. Underlying your post is that we were all living in squalor until being rescued by H-1B's. Then why did everyone want to come here?" right-wing personality Mike Cernovich responded to Ramaswamy on X. "There is nothing wrong with American workers or American culture. All you have to do is look at the border and see how many want what we have. We should be investing and prioritizing in Americans, not foreign workers," Nikki Haley, the former GOP presidential candidate and herself a daughter of Indian immigrants, wrote. "I want the little guy to matter too. Not everyone has $1 million but they still love their country and want to MAGA and close the border," far-right activist Laura Loomer posted. Loomer posted a series of missives throughout the afternoon, calling out Ramaswamy, Musk and anyone else in Trump's orbit who isn't fully committed to closing the borders. Zoom out: The fracture was familiar to anyone who's seen a movement expand — early adopters criticizing the latecomers for bringing different ideas. "Tech bros who took 8+ years to figure out that President Trump is not the bad guy and is in fact, the solution to America's problems, are really out here pontificating to MAGA patriots who figured it out a decade before them?" conservative streaming host Brenden Dilley posted on X. The bottom line: For now the fight is mostly confined to X. But it's sure to raise difficult questions in the coming days about what Trump's administration will mean for immigration, labor and the American worker. It will also potentially settle a looming conflict over who has the most influence in Trump 2.0 — his historic base or his new-found techno-libertarian allies. https://www.axios.com/2024/12/26/maga-civil-war-ramaswamy-musk-loomer-cernovich?utm_source=flipboard&utm_content=topic%2Fu.s.politics

Batshit conspiracy nonsense. The ACTUAL convicted pedos and crooks are republicans. Actual republican pedophiles; Dennis Hastert Ruben Verastigua Edison Aldarondo Philip Giordano Ton Shortsge Peter Dibble Strom Thurman (also a former KKK member) Mark Foley Matt Gaetz Roy Moore plus all sorts of enablers like Jim Jordan covered up sexual abuse scandal at Ohio State Ken Starr - represented Epstein and worked with other Republicans and Bush administration to get a sweetheart plea deal for him. also covered up a university sexual abuse scandal the list goes on As for money scandals, just off the top of my head: Jack Abramoff scandal (many Republicans involved), Tom Delay Duke Cunninham, Rick Renzi Paul Manafort

I think they tell the CANADIANS how to treat the local women and local men as well as apparently provide Canadians with data and insights on other aspects of society not just gender. Like how certain economic or social groups will he affected or react to certain policies and activities.

Do we have any actual evidence to support that non-whites and non-males are unqualified for the jobs they’re being given? I agree and Im glad that policy was reversed and should be reversed even more They should outsource the screening to private firms just like civilian government and the private sector do. Use reserves, veterans, allied militaries and civilian contractors to expand and speed up training until the CAF is large enough and healthy enough to handle it themselves. Sure, it’s a toxic brew with many factors. And toxic leadership has been a problem for many decades. Qualify of life is also poor with shabby living conditions, frequent relocation, long-term postings to bases in the middle of nowhere where spouses can’t find decent jobs, and where nobody wants to raise a family or waste away their young single years. Not a quick fix but some things that would go a long way are: fixing up the facilities, family supports and programs, pay raises, signing bonuses, retention bonuses, making some of those remote locations temporary instead of long term postings, expand the reserves in metro areas, integrate them with reg force and open more jobs to them, and just increasing the number of personnel overall to reduce burnout.

What am I making it sound like? I think OTHERS are making it sound like is all we contribute internationally is GAs and nothing more and Im am dispelling that myth, also AFAIK GAs are no a contribution to foreign militaries but rather are advisors to the Canadian military leadership Also they’re not “my” GAs I have no doubt that hat they’ll be on the chopping block under a PP government. Ukrainians have plenty of women in frontline combat roles it seems. Whether they get dedicated “gender advisors” or just regular advisors who slice amd dice the data by different ways including but not limited to gender they’re probably going to end yo with similar advice in the end. Could you imagine for example the Afghanistan mission with nobody talking to leaders about female personnel interacting with Afghan males or about Canadian males interacting with Afghan females? It might not be called GA anymore after PP and maybe it never should have been in the first place but that lens of analysis isn’t going to go away because its just part of due diligence.

Number, percentage and rate of persons accused of homicide, by racialized identity group, gender and region1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 https://www150.statcan.gc.ca/t1/tbl1/en/tv.action?pid=3510020701 non-racialized groups are the vast majority : 413 out of 595. Perhaps there’s an inconvenient explanation to why the police choose to only put non-whites on their “most wanted” list? I guess all those violent bikers who are always murdering each other are just a bunch of sweet fellas out for some wholesome fun. As for James Smith Cree nation there’s no evidence he was given a light sentence because of his race. He got stat release from his previous sentence after serving 2/3rd like anyone else and was supposed to be living in Saskatoon but was a fugitive at the time of the stabbings. It was actually the RCMP who failed to follow up or work with the cree nation community where unbeknownst to them he was suspected to be hiding out. Nobody ever notified the nation that he was released, at large and potentially living in one of their communities (there are multiple in the nation) as was supposed to be living in Saskatoon.

So are you suggesting that potential recruits dreaming of a military career are saying “if the military is allowing gays and facial hair Im going to instead work a boring job in the civilian world where nobody is gay or has facial hair”? No matter the woke policies there are probably always going to be a lot more gays weirdos and woke workplace policies in the civilian world than the military one at least for large employers and white collar workplaces The numbers suggest that recruiting hasn’t declined and in fact had massively increased in the past year (probably because of attention and media coverage over Ukraine and recent procurement not because of wokeness) I suspect the applications are mostly from the usual demographic who apply to the military and not pacifist transgender wiccans with purple hair
-
I don’t think anyone is reasonably expecting 50% women and Im not even defending the “woke” policies Im just saying the numbers don’t suggest the policies are affecting the number of applicants. They are likely having an influence on the number of exits so my thesis is that it negatively affects retention but not recruitment.
-
Typo in my original post, now fixed. I meant to say the CAF doesn’t have the resources to process applications
-
You don’t know the facts so you’re inventing your own narratives. “Wokeness” if anything is contributing to attrition but not to recruitment. Last year there were almost as many new applicants as there are people the entire CAF regular force. The CAF doesn’t have the resources to process applications and train them The number of applicants to join Canada’s military is soaring. Why hasn’t that resulted in more of them in uniform? May 7, 2024 at 6:32 p.m. …But the pace of new recruits hasn’t kept up with the increase in applications, after the military opened recruitment to permanent residents and loosened rules for hairstyles and tattoos. Despite taking in 70,080 applications in 2023-24 — a five-year high — the military actually enrolled just 4,301 new recruits, according to new figures provided to the Star. That’s just a small uptick from 2022-23, when 3,930 recruits were enrolled and far fewer applications — 43,934 — were received. Recruitment was also lower in the most recent fiscal year than the 5,167 who enrolled in 2019-20, when the military received 36,662 applications, and in 2021-22, when 4,778 recruits were accepted and 38,030 applications were received, the figures show… https://www.thestar.com/politics/federal/the-number-of-applicants-to-join-canadas-military-is-soaring-why-hasnt-that-resulted-in/article_83828744-0c81-11ef-be0f-57acf65e1452.html

I don’t think most civilians know the military is “woke” until they get there, Canadians famously don’t know anything about our military and I don’t think they would stop dreaming about being a fighter pilot just because they hear there will tampons in the mens room and say “oh I guess I’ll just be an accountant then”. There will always be a lot more gays and trannies in civilian life then there will ever be in military life no matter how “woke” a military gets. I would also speculate that the prospect of having to live and work in an environment that is 85% male has long been a general disincentive to military life for a lot of men who don’t be in a permanent 24/7 sausage fest.

House Ethics Report on Matt Gaetz

^Texts from Gaetz’s convicted pedo buddy Greenberg setting him up with a hooker My favourite was when Gaetz and his pedo buddy were short on cash and asked the girls for free sex for “customer appreciation week” And then later the texts where he refused to pay a girl in full because she “only gave him a drive-by” -

Nowhere has anyone been arrested simply because they were found to have used drugs in the past. Many celebrities have based their entire careers on talking about their past drug use. -

1) Hunter Biden isn’t a congressman and wasn’t appointed attorney general 2) Nobody said drugs and prostitution is legal -
It’s not my way. And yes being understaffed and poorly organized means we can’t efficiently hire more ppl. It’s a vicious cycle snd un-woking probably won’t help recruiting I don’t think the public is aware one way or another. It might help retention of ppl leaving though. But I doubt someone who’s dreamt of being a fighter pilot their whole life is quitting their dream just because suddenly there are tampons in the men’s room
-
1) This is false. The absolute majority of violent criminals are still white. Some non-white groups are proportionately higher but whites are still the majority of violent offenders. 2) violent offenders don’t receive “ gentle slaps on the wrist” for being non /white 3) historically non-whites are more likely than whites to receive longer sentences for a similar offence. Plus they are more likely to be arbitrarily stopped by police in the first place, more likely to be arrested for minor offences, more likely to receive a serious criminal charge, and more likely to be convicted than white people in similar circumstances
-
1) No we didn’t have “lots of soldiers” “before the woke”. CAF has been downsized by design and also by neglect for decades now 2)Actually plenty of people are applying. But the CAF only processes a fraction of the applications because they’re so under-resourced. As of the most recent report year there were more than 70,000 applications but fewer than 5,000 were processed because of backlogs in screening and training and personnel shortages. 3) Women and “gays” have proven themselves in combat a long time ago. That said culturally the military is probably never going to have the same appeal for those demographics so uptake will probably be limited.

It’s not the only thing we contribute weve trained tens of thousands of Ukrainian troops for example. Also just as a point of fact the GAs role is to advise Canadian leaders not necessarily teach other countries. .

You cannot be arrested for saying you’ve done drugs in the past. Which is why that never happens despite so many people doing it. You cannot be arrested for being under the influence of drugs which is why cops regularly bring high/stoned/doped up people to the hospital but don’t arrest them. You only get arrested if authorities find the drugs in your possession -

It’s not a crime to consume drugs. You have to be caught with them in your possession. That’s why people openly talk about past drug use without getting arrested. Similarly I think it’s hard to prosecute someone for soliciting prostitution if you don’t actually catch them with the prostitute or at least a record of communication. Oh and I stand corrected it seems while 16 is age of consent in Florida, it is also illegal for anyone over age 24 to have sex with anyone under age 18. But like drug use and prostitution its hard to prosecute after the fact without direct evidence. You misrepresent the “evidence”. They did secretly meet with Russians to discuss mutually beneficial arrangements, they did lie about those meetings, and they did obstruct the investigation. And some had secret financial dealings with Russian oligarchs and intermediaries including laundering dirty Russian money in the case of Manafort. And in their public statements they are kinder to Putin than to Ukraine. Those are all facts. Gaetz is a bad man because he’s a known scumbag all on his own. Trump is a totally separate scumbag. But birds of a feather flock together.
