Bullshit. As has ALREADY been explained to you all the economic indicators were going UP before Trump took office. Trump took credit dor that and claimed it’s because the markets new he was going to eventually become president. He claimed his golden age had already started before he was sworn in. It’s absolutely hilarious to now say that somehow that the downturn AFTER Trump took office is from tue guy who is no longer in office. Stock markets don’t crash because of things that happened in the past you simpleton. How deluded do you have to he to think that blowing up the global economic system has nothing to do either the US economy shrinking? Seriously stop being such a brainwashed dumbass. Answer this: What’s it going to take for you to see the light? How bad does it have to get and how long does it have to last?
-
Let’s also be clear that Trump NEVER campaigned on short term pain for long term gain. He campaigned on prosperity and golden age FROM DAY ONE The most generous thing you could say about this incompetent fool if you wanted to pretend he actually knows what he’s doing is to say that he pulled a bait-and-switch but I am sure he’s as surprised by the mess he’s created as his followers are.
-
But consumers and businesses and investors know they’re coming and they’ve adjusted their behind accordingly. Furthermore Trump’s insanely unpredictable manner where he announces a surprise tariff of some insane amount then just as unexpectedly walks it back a day or 2 later has created a toxic air of uncertainty that’s worse than if he just left the tariff in place. At least then people would know what the future had in store and could plan accordingly. An unfavourable business environment that is known for certain is better than one which’s could unpredictably be good or bad by total random chance on the whims of a madman. I call BS. Where’s your proof of that?

It’s hilarious how you puppets can reset your brain like that. You’ll recall that when the economy was firing on all cylinders LAST YEAR Trump claimed it was because the markets knew Trump was going to win the election and his golden age had already started. You remember that don’t you? Second it’s a plain objective fact that the primary cause of this economic shrinkage is Trump’s tariffs. Teump is an incompetent disaster

1) Martin’s first budget as PM was in 2005, while Carney was the second highest ranking official in the entire Finance Dept and definitely centrally involved in the budget 2) you falsely claimed He was NOT working for Martin when Martin balanced the budget, period. He went to work for Martin after that 3) Are you not aware that the budget is set EVERY YEAR? He was a central figure and he got the credit at the time his name was in publications all over the world. Not just for managing the interest rate but also as bank regulator who operates at arms length from the elected government with a great deal of autonomy. He dos a lot to keep them liquid and prior to the financial crisis to keep banks from adopting the same American toxic financial shenanigans that caused the US financial crisis to begin with. As a reminder Canada didn’t have a financial crisis thanks to Carney. We had a brief and mild recession due to the US having a financial crisis. -
US economy shrinks in first quarter of Trump 2.0 amid sweeping tariffs The US economy shrank in the first three months of Donald Trump’s second term as the president sought to roll out an aggressive trade strategy, claiming that sweeping tariffs on the world would strengthen the US economy. Gross domestic product (GDP), a key measure of overall growth in the US economy, fell by 0.3% in the first quarter of the year, down from 2.4% in the last quarter of 2024. The contraction – the first since the start of 2022 – puts the US on the brink of a technical recession, defined by two quarters of negative growth. The drop in activity comes amid a huge fall in consumer sentiment, which in April dropped 32% to its lowest level since the 1990 recession. https://www.theguardian.com/business/2025/apr/30/economy-gdp-q1-trump-tariffs Gee it’s almost as if giving incompetent mor0ns the power to rule the economy by random whim is bad or something. Go figure.

Lol yeah ok. There are more people in Toronto than your entire province. Call me when you have a bank. Or a steel mill. Or provincial police force. Or a seaport. .

Yeah if there’s one thing Danielle and he ilk are good at, it’s lowering the bar.

Final predictions thread for 2025 election?

Last night Jason Kenney was on CBC saying there is already some bad blood between PPs team and many CPC riding associations members because he had pushed aside “dozens and dozens” of local grassroots candidates and replaced them with his hand-picked appointees. That is also a tradition of sorts but Kenney suggested it went over particularly poorly- not sure if it’s because of the number of candidates it happened to or just they way they went about it. Anyway if true pushing another candidate aside for his own benefit may not be well received. Yeah but he had a 25-point lead initially and the liberals ended up only 3 seats shy of a majority. At least one of those CPC wins was due to a vote split between the Green incumbent and the Liberal candidate, there may be other CPC wins like that. -

Back then you were probably some beer drinking lowlife who didn’t pay attention to the news but he was famous then. How do you think he became the first non-British governor of the Bank of England since it was founded in 1694? -
Exactly!

If he doesn’t win his seat what will he do? Force one of his MPs to resign so he can run in a by-election? People don’t like PP even if they like conservatives. Meanwhile Carney is more popular than the liberal party is. PP has the opposite problem. -

PP still at risk of losing his riding and trailing in votes as the press accurately reported Will he resign? He has always been personally unpopular with Canadians and has consistently polled lower than the Conservative Party does as a whole. People don’t like his toxic personality and his toxic MAGA hat wearing chief-turned campaign manager who alienated a lot of provincial conservatives with her threats and insults over the years, over tiny petty little perceived and imagined slights. Doug Ford and Tim Houston both conservative premiers did not come out to support him as a result. Sounds like PP has turned to poopoo and is ready to be flushed. -

Funny how in your worldview all the people with high education and high paying jobs based on knowledge and talent are low IQ while the people with little to no education doing low skill labour are high IQ. -

CARNEY LIED ABOUT PHONE CALL WITH TRUMP!
BeaverFever replied to CdnFox's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
That isn’t true. So does that mean you’re a liar? He defended let Canadians believe it didn’t come uo but you are misrepresenting it. Carney was a senior BOC and Dept of Finance official since 2003, i.e. in the Martin government Carney was largely celebrated for his stewardship of the BOC. He didn’t become the first non-British governor of the bank of England in its centuries-long history for nothing. THE CARNEY DERANGEMENT SYNDROME HAS ARRIVED -
CARNEY LIED ABOUT PHONE CALL WITH TRUMP!
BeaverFever replied to CdnFox's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Let’s be clear: What’s come out is that Trump tried to sell Carney on the 51st state idea and Carney shut it down as something that will never happen, period It still remains a fact that they went on to have a polite and productive phone call as equals and Trump didn’t call him governor or other insults The rest of what you claim is just coming from desperate conservatives trying to spin it because they’re behind in the polls and because they’re conservatives The above said it’s a bit of an own goal simply because Canadians had a different impression of what was said even though it doesn’t really change anything. Yes it does appear that’s what happened. Poilievre is the one trying to pretend Trump doesn’t exist. Poilievre is the one whose campaign manager is an actual toxic MAGA with photos of herself in a red MAGA hat. That’s mostly correct although to be clear one of the lines Carney repeats in every speech is that nobody can control Trump, we can only control how we respond to him and only the person who wins the election will have a mandate to do so. He’s never claimed to have a magic switch that can prevent certain words from coming out of Trump’s mouth. But reminding people that the Trump threat continues and wasn’t just Trump trolling Trudeau helps his campaign. It’s at least plausible to think that while he could have told the public about this from the start to cash in on it, he decided not to as a gesture to reset the toxic relationship between Trump and Trudeau. -
Interactions with police doesn’t mean criminal activity or a threat to safety. It can just mean behaving strangely or even just making bizarre phone calls . And so in all likelihood police came by and took them to a hospital for evaluation or gave them a warning of some sort. We don’t “commit” people to “mental institutions” unless there’s a credible reason to believe they are a threat to harm themselves or others. A free society should not be locking people up simply for being “odd”. That said I am close to someone who is highly educated and successful who went through about 10 years of untreated mental illness before eventually recovering. During that time she had multiple police interactions, and in the very beginning she was actually held in Milton penitentiary for 4 weeks while awaiting trial for email harassment of a US corporation if you can believe it. Even the worst email harasser in history wouldn’t be sentenced to 4 weeks in prison especially for a foreign corporate “victim” and the case was eventually thrown out anyway. She was kept in the hospital wing but received ZERO mental health treatment, she was simply warehoused. If only she had received treatment she might not have lost the next decade of her life repeatedly getting fired from jobs, evicted from apartments and going in and out of hospitals on the 72-hour mental health hold which did nothing It wasn’t until she finally was admitted on the 2-week mental health hold that she finally had a breakthrough and it was like a curse had been lifted. My takeaway from having witnessed it all is that the healthcare system should have sufficient resources for the mental health inpatient care such that hospitals don’t feel they have to deprioritize and cut loose some MH cases after 72hrs. Also when police take someone to the hospital they’re often waiting in emergency with the patient for hours sometimes 8-10 hours before the patient is evaluated which gives the cops a disincentive to actually take people in crisis to the hospital. And considering that the majority of prison inmates havve a mental health diagnosis it’s shocking to me that there’s little to no effective MH treatment in prison.
