He could focus on taking down Ukraine from within, while Trump did everything to undermine Europe and NATO and made it clear he was 100% on board with Putin and would not intervene. Trump did mot “bomb Russian troops”. He did one symbolic missile strike gesture on a Syrian base where he warned Russia (and therefore Syria) ahead of time.
