The fix is in for Hunter Biden
BeaverFever replied to West's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
So did a thousand other things, including countless lies by the Right But that’s still not obstruction of justice except in right wing fascist land. BTW. A Republican House Oversight Committee investigated the laptop and concluded it did not contain any evidence of wrongdoing Biden’s tax and gun charges are not due to the laptop -

Really? Hunter Biden committed street crimes now? Are you suggesting he was out mugging and killing people? -

That’s not true. He is still under indictment for tax issues which is a separate case set to take place in California in September. This very law has already been challenged by Second Amendment activists and likely already headed to Supreme Court https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2023/09/20/hunter-biden-gun-charges-federal-court-challenges/70864665007/ It’s rare for anyone to be charged with this one particular crime without other related criminal activity like firearm trafficking which is why everyone is saying it’s so hard to speculate what the sentence will be. So this is your official prediction that you’ll be held to? Is Hunter Biden going to prison? What to know about the possible sentence after his conviction Tom Dupree, a former principal deputy assistant attorney general in the Justice Department, told CBS News that he does think Biden will be sentenced to prison, but more likely for a year or two, rather than a longer sentence. Some legal experts have argued that the charges brought against Biden are rare, making the sentencing in the case difficult to predict. Jessica Levinson, a law professor at Loyola Law School, told CBS News that it's rare for the charge to be brought as a standalone charge. And she added that she doesn't expect that the president's son will face the maximum sentence, or that the prosecution would ask for the maximum sentence. Levinson noted that "nobody should expect" to see the president's son "behind bars for a quarter century," though she made clear that some prison time is likely. https://www.cbsnews.com/amp/news/hunter-biden-guilty-verdict-sentence-prison/ Here’s what Hunter Biden’s sentence could look like According to the most recent manual published by the U.S. Sentencing Commission, which sets recommended sentencing guidelines, someone in Hunter Biden’s position would typically face 15 to 21 months’ imprisonment for offenses related to the unlawful receipt, possession or transportation of firearms. From 2019 to 2023, just 52 defendants were sentenced in a similar category as Hunter Biden, and 92% were sentenced to serve prison time with a median prison term of 15 months, according to the commission’s data. About 8% of people in that category received probation or a fine. …According to the commission’s data, a defendant comparable to Hunter Biden who received credit for accepting responsibility would see a suggested range of just 10 to 16 months in prison, and in practice, 30% of people sentenced in that category from 2019 to 2023 were sentenced to probation with no prison time. https://www.staradvertiser.com/2024/06/11/breaking-news/heres-what-hunter-bidens-sentence-could-look-like/ -

It has no bearing on the decisions of Justice officials. They get their expert opinions directly from the experts not from reading newspapers -

Expressing an opinion publicly is not obstruction of justice…maybe it will be once the Trump dictatorship commences, but not as of yet. -

There’s hard evidence Trump did too, including a recording of him talking about committing the crime with someone who was already convicted for their role in the crime and who testified against Trump. Biden also didn’t do what Trump did a bunch of wild conspiracy theories of political persecution and call on his minions to mob the courthouse and threaten the prosecutor and judge either. Biden accepted reality for what it was and took it like a man while Trump took it like a lying whiny little b1tch. -

Two incorrect statements You said he would get a slap on the wrist, West and ironstone said he would get off, I don’t think the others opined. -

Not the people who posted on this thread who said he would get off Why don’t you go on the record and tell us what would be a “super light sentence” and what the proper sentence would be and then We can see if you’re right? I bet you probably won’t because like most MAGAs you don’t want to be held accountable for your baseless claims when they’re disproven and also you want to be able to claim he got a “super light sentence” no matter what it is. If he received the harshest sentence in history, you’d still want to claim it was rigged and he got a “super light sentence”. So why don’t you man up and tell us what the correct sentence should be for this offence and a first time nonviolent offender? And SHOW US THE FACTS that support your claim don’t just pull something made up out of your ass -

WRONG AGAIN!!!! Guilty on all 3 felony counts , in the Bidens’ home state no less Once again your far right conspiracy claims are disproven. And the Biden family accepts the verdict like adults instead of screaming conspiracy and pledging to pardon him. Just goes to show the level of maturity compared to unhinged MAGAs -
Lets not forget that before Byng the Canadians were commanded by British General Alderson, and both men were under the command of Field Marshal Haig. Alderson amd Haig had reputations for conventional and unimaginative strategies and costly human wave attacks, with Haig being posthumously accused of squandering soldiers and dubbed “the butcher of the Somme” As commander of Canadian Corps Byng was popular and inventive and Canadian General Arthur Currie, commander of First Canadian Division, was his junior partner and hand-picked successor. From what I understand Vimy was a Currie-Byng collaboration with Currie responsible for most of the meticulous planning, for which he became particularly renowned. Currie then became the commander of Canadian Corps shortly after Vimy (June 1917) until the end of the war. And then of course in 1916 there were the Newfies who were not in the Canadian Corps but nonetheless sent to slaughter at Baumont Hamel by their British generals, 710 casualties from a regiment of 800.

The one you keep chirping about, where you wish Republicans sweep to power and heap misery and suffering on all the Hated Ones while you cheer with glee at their pain It was called the Trump administration Undoubtedly another bogus lie-filled election lawsuit that will end up in the garbage alongside the other 60+ bogus lie-filled election lawsuits Speaking of Arizona you know that Arizona recently indicted Giuliani, Mark Meadows, a bunch of Trump administration officials and Arizona GOP members on multiple felony charges over their fake electors scam to steal the 2020 election, right? News from the real world probably doesn’t make its why into your propaganda bubble very easily

People don’t lavish millions of dollars in “gifts” for nothing. They’re buying access. It’s legal because there’s no quid-pro-quo that anyone can point to and say “you paid him this much money for that specific outcome”. But everyone understands that when someone lavishes you with that much money, you are expected to safeguard their interests whenever something happens to come your way, and you’re expected to pick up the phone whenever they happen to call and do whatever it is they tell you to do. It’s basically paying bribes via retainer.

*sigh* No. Just because some says they have faith in the courts doesn’t mean they are saying they believe there are zero corrupt justice officials. Just because people say they have faith in democracy doesn’t mean they believe there are zero corrupt politicians. Just because someone says they have faith in law enforcement doesn’t mean they believe there are zero dirty cops. Just because someone says they have faith in the education system doesn’t mean they believe there are zero bad teachers. Get it? PS: “Biden has spoken” doesn’t work on liberals. We don’t worship political leaders as gods like conservatives do. Even if Biden had spoken what you claim he had (he hasn’t) a liberal would feel free to just say “so what I think he’s wrong”. I know that kind of free thinking is foreign concept for conservatives so you may need to reflect on that for a bit. Nice try. Nothing hypocritical about it. You can respect the SYSTEM and say you expect to receive a fair trial, and still call out individuals who are crooked and don’t respect the system. I can say Clarence Thomas is one corrupt judge without saying every single judge is corrupt and nobody in the country can receive a fair trial What exactly did the judge “pull”? Be specific. You’re just unhappy that you didn’t get what you wanted so you scream conspiracy. And to use your own attempt at logic against you, you’re admitting that the system is corrupt? Your original argument was that even Biden has confirmed the system is trustworthy and there’s no corruption so Thomas can’t possibly be corrupt. But now you’re saying it is corrupt? Get your story straight. What evidence do you have for that? If convicted Hunter’s sentence will likely be light with little to no jail time as he is a first time nonviolent offender and similar cases in the past have resulted in little or no jail time. Trump similarly is unlikely to see jail for a first time conviction on white collar crime. Contrary to your claim it is not “a faked up Franken law” nor was the law created recently. The laws Trump broke have always been on the books. Well you better call Pepperidge Farm because Loretta Lynch was not a judge. Nor do you have any evidence that the conversation was any kind of bribe. Like why would bill Clinton “talking to” someone cause them to change their decision. It’s not like he sent her on one of Thomas’s $500,000 vacations. By all accounts the Clinton-Lynch exchange was brief and social and not uncommon when VIPs find themselves killing time in the same place at the same time. Nobody “ran” anywhere and the case was closed on the recommendation of Republican James Comey, who publicly announced its reopening just days before the election which is largely credited for Hillary’s election loss despite the reopening not revealing any nee evidence Also Trump’s administration couldn’t dig up any dirt on Clinton despite his promises to “lock her up” And again this is evidence of the hilarious double standard: Republican gets $4 Million in “gifts”: a mountain of evidence is demanded to prove anything inappropriate happened. You know because people shower each other with millions in gifts for no reason all the time. But Bill Clinton has a chat with someone and conveniently no evidence is required to believe the wildest conspiracies.

Interesting facts about Juno Beach that every Canadian should know - The original D-Day landing plans did not include Canadians at all, or the beach they landed on…they were a last minute addition to the beaches to be assaulted by British I Corps and Canadian 3rd Infantry Division and 2nd Armoured Brigade answered the call, as part of the British Corps - The Canadian beach was arguably the most challenging of all allied beaches, which is likely why it was not initially considered, dor the following reasons: It was the only beach where fortifications included a formidable man-made concrete seawall that soldiers would have to scale under fire. -It was also the only beach with built-up areas, as the beach was directly in front of 4 villages whereas the other allied beaches all fronted on open countryside. This meant after clearing the killing fields of the beach, Canadians were the only allies on D-day who had to then immediately continue into to “urban combat”: fighting block by block, street by street, house by house, and even room by room while Germans had a network of tunnels and trenches that allowed them to “pop up” behind the Canadians as they advanced through the villages -This also means the very first houses to be liberated from the Nazis on D-Day were liberated by Canadians -In addition, the beach was surrounded by a number of reefs and sandbars that had the potential to impede landing craft and leave forces exposed Indeed, supporting tanks landed late ams they had to wait for the tide to be high enough to clear the sandbar leaving the first wave(s) of infantry exposed without fire support in the meantime - Due to proximity to civilian villages and cloud cover, pre-invasion bombing amd naval bombardment was light and left many German defences untouched - Despite the fact that Canadians suffered the highest per capita casualty rate of all allied beaches (and second highest overall), they advanced further inland and achieved more of their objective on D-day than any other allied force - The British Corps beaches were all named for Fish: Gold(fish), Sword(fish) and in between the two at the deadliest point, the newly added Canadian beach of Jelly(fish). Fortunately Churchill himself objected to the name “Jelly Beach” as entirely inappropriate for a place where men would likely be killed and mutilated in the largest numbers (“turned into jelly”), so he personally changed the name to Juno. Imagine telling people your grandfather was blown to pieces on Jelly Beach! - Because of the “Can-loan” agreement which allowed the British military to plunder officers from the Canadian military, the Canadian military had a severe shortage of officers and a number of Canadian platoons onD-day were commanded by NCOs instead of officers The British military tradition of using Canadian troops as cannon fodder (“elite shock troops of the empire” is a flip-side of the same coin) throughout WW1 continued in WW2 with Dieppe and the predicted high casualty assignment at “Jelly beach”. But the Canadians left the role of Britain’s cannon fodder after the unparalleled success at Juno An accurate telling of Juno Beach, as told by US and British historians

@ironstone 2 flags: The upside-down US Flag and the Christian Nationalist flag known as the “Appeal to Heaven” or “Pine Tree” flag that recently became popular among Jan 6 rioters, election deniers and other extremists (photo of flag flying at Alito’s beach house at link below) Another Provocative Flag Was Flown at Another Alito Home The justice’s beach house displayed an “Appeal to Heaven” flag, a symbol carried on Jan. 6 and associated with a push for a more Christian-minded government. May 22, 2024 Last summer, two years after an upside-down American flag was flown outside the Virginia home of Justice Samuel A. Alito Jr., another provocative symbol was displayed at his vacation house in New Jersey, according to interviews and photographs. This time, it was the “Appeal to Heaven” flag, which, like the inverted U.S. flag, was carried by rioters at the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. Also known as the Pine Tree flag, it dates back to the Revolutionary War, but largely fell into obscurity until recent years and is now a symbol of support for former President Donald J. Trump, for a religious strand of the “Stop the Steal” campaign and for a push to remake American government in Christian terms. https://www.nytimes.com/2024/05/22/us/justice-alito-flag-appeal-to-heaven.html#:~:text=Another Provocative Flag Was Flown,a more Christian-minded government.

What is nonsense? Biden’s statements about his trust in the judicial system as a whole don’t exonerate specific crooks and partisan hacks like Thomas, Scalia and Alito You raise a point I was saving for another thread: Just goes to show Democrats understand the importance or respecting institution of the judiciary even when Republicans have installed some crooked-as-F hyperpartisan judges Biden said repeatedly that if Hunter Biden is convicted of a crime he will have to oney the decision of the courts, serve his sentence and he will not receive a pardon. Contrast that with Republicans’ history of pardoning their criminal buddIes and Trump and his supporters screaming conspiracy, threatening judges, etc.

1. Notice the dirtiest judges are all Republicans 2. Republican Supreme Court judges are on the take from mega donors fly openly partisan extremist flags, and have batshit crazy conspiracy spouses but Republicans think the only judge who needs to recuse themselves for political bias is Trumps judge because of his daughter’s tweets. 3. Conservatives lose their shit over Trudeau’s vacations but Republican Supreme Court justices talking millions in gifts and paid half-million dollar vacations is a-ok

Thomas has accepted $4M in gifts during career: Watchdog Supreme Court justices have received nearly $5 million in gifts since the early 2000s, and one justice in particular, Justice Clarence Thomas, accounts for nearly all of it. Data released Thursday by watchdog group Fix the Court unveils a list of gifts justices have received since January 2004. The dataset was released ahead of an expected release of the justices’ financial disclosure reports Friday. Thomas, nominated to the high court by former President George H.W. Bush, made headlineslast year after an investigation found he had taken dozens of trips paid for by separate billionaire friends. According to the data compiled by Fix the Court, since 2004, Thomas has accepted $4,042,286, or 193 gifts. The group reported that, for Thomas, there’s an additional 126 “likely but not confirmed gifts.” Of the nearly 200 gifts, the group said Thomas only reported 27 of the gifts on his financial disclosures. …Scalia received the second-highest total in gifts, with $210,164 from Jan. 2004 to his death in 2016. The list of gifts comes after Democrats called for Justice Samuel Alito to recuse himself from cases related to Jan. 6 and former President Trump currently before the court in light of reports that a “Stop the Steal” flag was flown outside his house after the attack on the Capitol. Last week, Alito rejected the calls to recuse himself in the cases. …Alito received the third-most gifts, with $170,095 from his first day on Jan. 31, 2006, to present day, the data said. https://thehill.com/regulation/court-battles/4708390-thomas-has-accepted-4m-in-gifts-during-career-watchdog/mlite/?nxs-test=mlite "Beyond belief": Clarence Thomas reveals that a GOP megadonor paid for his $500,000 Bali vacation Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas has been accepting luxury vacations — cruises on yachts, private jet flights and accommodations at five-star resorts — from billionaire Harlan Crow for over 20 years, as ProPublica has reported. Now the justice is coming clean, in part, disclosing Friday that a 2019 trip to Indonesia was indeed paid for by in late June was paid for by the Republican megadonor. As ProPublica noted when it first reported on the trip to Bali, Thomas boarded a private jet for Indonesia, where he and his wife proceeded to island hop for nine days on a 162-foot superyacht with a private chef — a trip that would have cost him over $500,000 had he tried to pay for it himself. … https://www.yahoo.com/news/beyond-belief-clarence-thomas-reveals-180642256.html
