How does Parliament save face before Trump?
paxamericana replied to Machjo's topic in Canada / United States Relations
He is our elected leader, he was elected to lead us into greatness. what ever that happens to be and so long as i see that it makes sense i will continue to support it. You anti-trump people just seems to want to look the other way when he is doing good. -

Let's be clear here what I mean pro legal immigration so we don't keep repeating outdated soviet subversion tactics. We are pro immigration on those who can come here with things to contribute, not charity cases where they expect society to take care of them. Trump is doing what he thinks is best to achieve this. That means people between the age of 18-40, with a skilled labor to contribute. -

People want to the come here for the opportunity of a better life, the american dream. life liberty and the pursuit of happiness. I guess that does sound greedy. Rofl. You know why your criticism doesn't really work on me? Because I've always stood on a solid moral/philosophical foundation that makes america great. -

We've done that from the beginning. We target large corporation who are in violation, that set an example for little companies to comply. The biggest violators are restauraunts and that's what ICE have been doing we have been cracking down on violators. But this is only half the battle, you also need to make it harder for people to come here by adopting policies that would deter it. Sanctuary cities only encourages more immigration. Adopting more illegal immigration friendly policies would only make the issue worse. America is pro immigration, we are pro LEGAL immigration. if you come here breaking the law don't expect a warm welcome. #New World Order # Rule and Law -

Almost 240 years and still kicking. We are not an empire we are a revolutionary force. The best 240 year old experiment. You're not dealing with just a physical force, you're also dealing with an ideological force. Don't make the mistake our adversary have by regarding us an empire. -

Those are simple anti trump rhetoric that doesn't delve deeply with the problems we have facing immigration. Do you understand there is a real and credible problem with drugs moving across the border? There is a real problem with drug dealers and their human trafficking net work? So are we to adopt policies that encourages these things in the guise of human rights? Do not overly simplify and detract the issue with your Ad Hominen logical fallacies. -

I suspect the tariff will remain in place for the time being if your pride doesn't break. Fine by us, our economy is doing great. We've been doing unilateral free trade since the Marshal Plan of WWII. Everyone else should just adopt it like we have. There's a reason our economy is the world's envy. See, trump understand trade, he does. He knows free trade is the best deal for everyone. But if you don't play ball then tariff it is. Gona hurt everyone else alot more than it will hurt us. -

That's being said of hitler and nazi germany... wrong context buddy. -
You guys are so sensitive to other's opinion. If we Americans cared about what everyone else think of us a lot of things would not get done. This is the fundamental difference between Canadians/Europeans and Americans. That is why we are the most revolutionary force of democracy. The world belong to the brave and those who take risks. Those meek Obama days are OVER! Look at Iran, they're not buzzing our ships anymore. Same with Russia and China, any would be adversary, they respect America's will and might now. Those countries aren't western democracy they only understand strength through force. Whilst you half baked intellectual scorn us with your lofty Ideals we Americans have been paying with our blood and money to defend you all. And you know what, we'd still do it regardless of your disdain for us. Because we see our selves as part of something greater. We're the fist of democracy, we will maintain the world order of rule and law.

Should Canada play the long game with Trump?
paxamericana replied to Machjo's topic in Canada / United States Relations
We don't really have this issue here in the states actually, most of our agriculture is ran by major corporations and yes they do lobby but at the end of the day they are only one entity. subsidize free trade eh? don't mind if I do -

Yess agreed. I don't think what has been said here haven't been already discussed and resolve through the state department and whatever the canadian version would be during negotiation. I think there is something else in the fine details of this trade agreement that they were stumbling over, some sticking point like you have pointed out with the agriculture and communications cartel . -

Actually this is exactly what I suspect Trump will do. First raise tariff then suddenly drop them out of good will allowing people to save face and then coming to an agreement. -

That is so canadian of you to say this. You guys are so sensitive to other's opinion. But if i'm honest, if we cared about what everyone else think of us a lot of things would not get done. We didn't want it to come to this, we don't want to embarrass anyone or create any hard feelings, we even feel bad about it, we gave everyone an extended deadline but everyone seems to want to drag their feet. Your PM should have agreed to the trade deals being propose well before trump came to office. But enough of what could have have been. Fact of the matter is this, we need those trade deals to be finalize as soon as possible. When a more efficient economy is establish people will see the long term benefit it brings and realize that the hard choice was the right choice. Those who criticize america and what it stands for will continue to do so, but remember our people have more in common than differences. So despite your initial objection to the medicine being taken its still has to be done. -
Hmmm, those standardize test scores sure make everyone else look soo good, especially because their population is soo much larger than the US ! Japan is the only truely great competitor, what they lack in numbers they make up for in work ethics. The truth is this, more technical data and research is done in america than anywhere else, the true measure of a successful education system. So keep priding your self on what ever metric you think makes your academics superior to ours.

You guys and the rest of europe have been drinking that anti trump haterade too long. I agree galvanizing you guys was a bad idea because it puts everyone in a bad spot. But trump likes to get things done. He doesn't have two terms to get a trade deal going. He is doing everything at break neck speed because he doesn't think he will get two term. This is the real reason he has upset the status quo so early on, he has nothing to loose in his mind. But a lot of us neo con actually support this and the chances for him to get re elected will be high. He has gain more follower not loose them despite what poll number or liberal media opinion exhume. Beside these trade negotiation will take years to sort out unless pressure is applied. The us economy is the envy of the world. It will hurt everyone else alot more than it will hurt us. If tariffs remain in place then american enginuity will prevail, we will find a way to reduce production cost as more producer will come to market. It will speed up the modernization of our production capability. To summarize, we have nothing to loose and everything to gain. Eventually the world economy will revert to automation of manufactured good and the need for import will reduce. So get on board canada its for your own good. -
