In Britain, “Flight Sales Soar As Covid Testing Is Dropped” https://apple.news/AOe7e_rHZQ52Dq527YppMHA

And what do you think the results will be of dismissing the convoy as some fringe element and suppressing its important message? Trudeau has underestimated the public’s intelligence. Blanket, blunt instrument restrictions and mandates are not serving us well. People have complied and sacrificed in untold ways. Omicron impacts the vast majority of people like a flu. It’s fair to demand that restrictions be eliminated given the high toll they have taken after so much vaccination and compliance. Covid is here to stay. Does that mean restrictions should be too? We have to live normal lives taking whatever precautions we see fit for ourselves, not living under endless dictates, waiting for permission to live our short lives.

It used to have some real giants doing commentary. I remember seeing coverage of people like Pierre Berton, Mordecai Richler, Farley Mowat, Alice Munro. TVO used to have the incredible Elwy Yost… Now the CBC can’t even get Hockey Night in Canada right, or whatever it’s called now. Not a lot of substance on Canadian public television anymore, not that CTV is any better.

Interesting that the only anti-vax workers I’ve met work in healthcare. The nurse who gave me the last jab thought the restrictions are ridiculous.

I knew you liked tyranny.

If enslavement makes you happy, I’m sure that can be provided on an individual basis.

What does left versus right have to do with the drastic loss of freedom?
-
What are you talking about? Canadians have never been less free than they are now.

It’s time for governments to end the oppression. My colleagues, friends, staff, family, everyone I know feels like a dark cloud hangs over them. Their communities are broken. Nowhere to go and nothing to do. Even when we could briefly go to a bar or restaurant, people were divided from each other in cubicles. No extra-curricular activities. Churches and arenas half empty or shuttered. Children and adults staring endlessly at glass, alone in front of their computers. For what? We’ve done what we were told. We’ve taken the shots and warn the masks and watched businesses and people fall apart as our government racks up massive debt. Still the restrictions persist. End this madness. End all restrictions immediately. You have the resources to protect yourself from Covid. You can’t protect yourself from mandates and restrictions.

If it’s true that cameras are being turned off so that the protests aren’t captured on film, laws are being broken and law suits should come forward. Hopefully some of that $4 million raised on gofundme can go towards legal action. The operation of highway safety cameras should not have any political interference.

Britain and Ireland end their covid mandates.
Zeitgeist replied to taxme's topic in The Rest of the World
Britain figured out that no amount of vaccination or suspension of freedoms would eliminate Covid, which has become a manageable endemic illness within the framework of pre-pandemic freedoms. To maintain restrictions and mandates is to maintain a draconian suspension of rights that causes more problems than it solves. It means we will have a certain amount of illness and death. It means adding hospital capacity. We’ve seen much more death in the not too distant pre-pandemic past. Adding capacity to our hospitals is well within our grasp. Treatments are improving. Britain and Ireland made the right move. https://apple.news/AOo2QBnTjReGGfvz6Tp190A -
Canada is in serious trouble. Covid is the excuse for the totalitarian restrictions and communist-style identification documents that we’re forced to carry to enjoy basic freedoms that are always a case count away from suspension. There is no burden on the provincial and federal governments of justification. The Charter of Rights and Freedoms might as well not exist. Review the narrative: Covid will never be mild enough, people will never be vaccinated enough, and the population will never be restricted enough, for the government to restore your rights. These totalitarian moves have nothing to do with the threat of serious illness and death. Today Covid is a threat not unlike flu. Most people are vaccinated. This is about state control. Sadly, many people haven’t figured it out. The daily news scares and normalization of restrictions have inculcated the de facto end of democracy. I hope the people demand its return. The convoy is an expression of the public’s resistance. Only the people can ensure that it grows and doesn’t become one of the last gasps of opposition to digital totalitarianism.

Everyone I know who has had Omicron, including older and obese, recovered within a week. They were vaccinated, which probably helped. We can’t live like Chicken Little, fearful of living normal unmasked lives. It’s dysfunctional. We should be furious that our government resorts to these measures at this stage of the game. It highlights a top-heavy, overly bureaucratic government that resorts to blanket, blunt restrictions on freedoms to manage hospitals and their unions. An over-reliant, unquestioning public used to being treated like babies shares the blame.
-
You’ll never get out of it then.
-
We’re already almost universally vaccinated. We can’t vaccinate much further. Are we to live restricted lives in masks forever? We have to accept the constant presence of Omicron. Let people make their own risk assessments and take precautions as they see fit. No coercion necessary. It wouldn’t improve our situation.
-
Safer isn’t always better, when the increased safety is minor and the measures to achieve it are major. The Brits and Americans understand this. Canada’s measures were more justified earlier in the pandemic, but not with our current dominant Omicron variant and level of vaccination. https://apple.news/AkmiBIs4XSSiTejnlMD2iKw

Don’t pretend that people have as much freedom to choose vaccination as to remain unvaccinated. People who don’t get vaccinated can and do lose their jobs and forego many basic freedoms. Are you calling coercion free choice? That’s what this argument is about. I got vaccinated and think that my first two jabs were worth getting, but it wasn’t really a free choice. It’s very concerning to think that vaccinations are required of me to enjoy basic freedoms that got suspended anyway during this period. What further requirements might be added to my digital passport? Why should government have the right to violate a person’s medical privacy and informed discernment? We either trust people to make decisions or we tell people what to do, punishable by x. Mandates and restrictions are being applied without individual or explicit public consent. In a vastly vaccinated population facing a flu-like variant, we are forced to carry a proof of vaccination to access freedoms. Our movements and activities are restricted. No we should not accept this. It’s not what a constitutional democracy should accept. I no longer think Canada is free, because the evidence doesn’t support freedom.

What? There’s more resistance to mandates and restrictions in the US than in Canada. It’s the main reason we’re still living under them while many states have dropped them.
-
You’ve missed the point on all of this. Anyway don’t worry, dumb compliance is already the status quo. You’ll probably see boosts added to the passports and maybe more in the years to come. This is about individual discretion and freedom versus government mandated behaviour and controls over the populous. I know you like social engineering. There may be a lot more of it coming if voices like yours dominate. So far they are. I don’t know if pre-pandemic freedoms will ever be restored. Good for you.
-
You don’t get it. The US mandate is wrong too. Trudeau and Biden are bedfellows and both are letting totalitarian approaches erode rights.
-
Trudeau has succeeded in dividing people.
-
It’s time for mass rallies across the country. End all restrictions immediately! Stop totalitarianism in Canada!

People elect the government and can change it. Governments are accountable to their own laws and constitutions. It’s important also to question bad policies because we create them through our government legislation.
