Charity -Do you give on a regular basis?
blackbird replied to August1991's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
Maybe it won't change their ways, but if you give them five or ten, it might enable them to buy something to eat and drink. If it was that easy to change their ways, there wouldn't be many panhandlers. Change can't buy much, but of course anything is better than nothing. -
The liberal left and NDP have been bending over backwards to let FNs and enviro groups have a say on what projects get approved. This has resulted in proposed mining projects taking ten or fifteen years to get approval. It has also helped prevent pipelines like Energy East and Northern Gateway from proceeding. It should be noted there are some FN bands that approve of a lot of projects too. The Coastal Gaslink pipeline through northern B.C. was supported by all the elected councilors of FN bands along the route but opposed by unelected hereditary chiefs in the northwest. Most, if not all the hereditary chiefs, who opposed that project do not even live anywhere near the route of the pipeline. It's time the governments stopped bending over backwards to these opposition groups and started doing what is best for Canada. What kind of evangelicals support what Trump is doing? He seems to hate Canada and is treating his own people very poorly. He released Jan 6 convicted offenders from prison. Firing countless people and deporting countless people, many of whom have families and have been working in the U.S. for many years. Threatening to illegally take over other countries like Greenland and Panama, which is against international law. Disrespecting Canada's sovereignty.

It may take time, but Trump has proven we have wrongly relied on the U.S. as a good trading partner. Now they elected a guy that turns against Canada and makes false accusations against us on everything. Our governments should have seen the possibility of something like this coming. Trump is threatening the whole western world with tariffs. Time to wake up. The best thing Canada can do is look elsewhere to trade and build pipelines to ship oil and gas overseas to other countries as much as possible. Right now 90% of our oil goes south to the U.S. That must change. This may take years to do, but we must get started now. I'm not going to play your game and answer your insults.
-
I never said anything about fearing or loathing Republican Evangelicals. I oppose all the madness coming from Trump and his plans to harm millions of people with his tariffs. He seems to have gone completely mad. If you are supporting what Trump is threatening to do to Canada and his insane comments about a 51st state, you have no understanding of what this means. Any evangelical who supports what Trump is doing now must be mentally wacko.

We know you are part of the train wreck Liberals and NDP (and Greens) have made of Canada. You believe in Marxism.
-
Never said it was the government that builds pipelines. Did you read what I wrote? It's the government that regulates and blocks the building of pipelines in Canada. You're an American MAGA person aren't you? So you're hostile to Canada's energy industry. You don't want Canada to be able to sell to countries other than the U.S.

The existing laws and regulations make it almost impossible to get new pipelines built in Canada. Almost no new pipelines have been built since Trudeau was elected in 2015. He killed the Energy East pipeline and the Northern Gateway pipeline projects soon after he was elected. He brought in new laws making the approval process almost impossible to get through. Canada has hampered pipeline projects by allowing environmental groups and FNs to oppose and block pipeline projects as well. Something drastic has to be done. Pipelines are essential to get our oil and gas to international markets. 90% of our oil is sold to the U.S. at a reduced price. We only have one pipeline to get oil to tidewater in Canada which is crazy. That is the Trans Mountain Pipeline to Vancouver. Even expanding that to bring it up to date was a horror show that lasted many years. The private company had to back out because of all the opposition from FNs, environmental groups, and the BC NDP. Since the pipeline is a lifeline for the energy industry in Alberta and essential for fueling motor vehicles on the west coast, the federal government had to step in and buy the pipeline project. But this is not the way to run a country. All these protesting regularly against pipeline projects by blocking their construction should be outlawed as a form of economic terrorism. That is what it is. People caught blocking pipelines should be charged and tried with a criminal offence and face years behind bars. Stop this parole nonsense after half a sentence. Our only hope is a new Conservative government that will abolish the rigid regulatory process created by the Liberals and NDP and eliminate C69, eliminate the no more pipeline laws. Let's build, build, build and make Canada great. It will take years to build new pipelines but we must take action and eliminate all the hurdles in the process, especially the protest groups. That form of terrorism against our economy must end.

The terrorists in fact started this war and they murdered 1,200 innocent people and took another 250 hostage and murdered many of them. Hamas hides among the civilians. What is the matter with you? Why do you believe the Devil's lies?

From past experience, I doubt if it will make any difference what anyone says to you. PP has already said he plans to take firm action against any tariffs. Also plans to change things in Canada to get Canadian energy to market through new pipelines, etc. If you are just looking for an excuse to be contrary, you're wasting your time. I won't bite.

Sad how your kind totally wrecked Canada with your hug-a-criminal policies, carbon taxes, anti-Canadian forces, wild spending, and massive bureaucracy and red tape. Yet you still somehow believe the Trudeau kind of liberal gang are best. Please do Canadians a big favour and stay out of the election.
-
Except PP doesn't share the same beliefs as Trump. PP believes in Canada and getting it out of the train wreck it is in with the Liberals/NDP. Again I repeat PP is nowhere near the Trump or Putin beliefs. PP stands up for Canada and also Ukraine. Kind of hard to understand such warped thinking. You don't seem to understand the basics of what the Conservatives in Canada stand for. Simple Google search would tell you. You would learn so much.

That is only true insofar as what you believe is in agreement with Scriptures as a whole (the King James Bible). How do you know if you are following the Holy Spirit as he speaks through Holy Scripture or following Demonic spirits? There are many churches which have drifted away from the Bible and into great error. There are demonic spirits which plant thoughts in Christian's minds. Some Christians might think they are immune from the influence of demonic spirits, but that is simply not true. There is a very good book called "War On The Saints" by Jessie Penn-Lewis, which I have partly read and not finished yet. It is available on Amazon for a reasonable price. It is "a history of Satanic deceptions in Christianity and the conflict between good and evil".

This OP misses many important truths but one major one is PP has some strong bulldog qualities which is what Canada needs to deal with Trump. Tough guys like Trump only respect strong people who stand up to him. Liberals just don't have it. They are too namby pamby. PP is just the right guy at the right time to do that. PP will also axe the tax, build the homes, and stop the crime (as much as humanly possible of course). He will axe the "hug-a-criminal" laws that Liberals brought in. He will bring in serious sentences for drug dealers.

"Trump only respects leaders who show toughness and can stand up to his bullying. He has little respect for Trudeau, and is unlikely to see either Mark Carney or Chrystia Freeland in a positive light. Some people have criticized Pierre Poilievre as being too much of a bulldog, but isn’t that exactly the quality we need in a leader who has to vigorously fight to defend the threat to our sovereignty and our values?" Harry Rakowski: Poilievre is the bulldog Canada needs to fight Trump Yes, I think PP is just the right man at the right time for Canada.

Well, we have something in common. I also was raised as a Roman Catholic. I heard the gospel over the radio one evening when I was 35 yrs old and was saved through that by God's grace through faith. I also am non-denominational, although I attended several different denominations over the years. It is very difficult these days to find a suitable church where I live.

I agree with most of what you say. Just don't agree that you cannot learn from other Christians. We can learn much from learned, mature Christian writers and wise theologians. The book I mentioned, Major Bible Themes by Lewis Sperry Chafer, is an excellent book on theology. It is online at the website named after him. He passed away in 1952. Also, I have learned a lot by doing a search on subjects and reading articles on various subjects on the Bible. There are a lot of difficult topics that are not easy to understand on your own. The website gotquestions.org seems to have good articles on a lot of Bible subjects. I often do a search on a topic and find they have good articles on the topic

You don't give much hope for people who might be contemplating suicide. Sad really. Really sad. The Bible says our bodies belong to God. Only God decides when life ends, not individuals. It is always wrong to commit suicide. MAID is another thing that is wrong and against the ten commandments. You need to do some serious Bible study. Google the subject and find out what the Bible says about suicide.
-
No, I don't believe the Bible approves of suicide. You are way off base on that. No Christian should ever say suicide is not against the Bible. "Suicide is a permanent "solution" to temporary problems. It is so sad to hear news reports about teenagers who commit suicide after a relationship break up, or due to bullying at school, or due to some other trivial issue. While it obviously did not seem trivial to the person who committed suicide, in the grand scheme of things, there is nothing that warrants suicide. Problems that seem so overwhelming today will be looked back upon years later as virtually meaningless. Especially for the Christian, with eternity in mind, there is nothing that could happen in this world that would justify committing suicide. The Bible mentions six people who committed suicide (Judges 9:54; 1 Samuel 31:4-6; 2 Samuel 17:23; 1 Kings 16:18; Matthew 27:5). None of them were righteous, to say the least. The Bible nowhere explicitly states, "it is a sin to commit suicide," but the Bible does condemn murder (Exodus 20:13). Suicide is "self-murder," therefore suicide is a sin since murder is a sin. Aside from the "do not commit murder" command, suicide is also a sin for the following two reasons, one theological and one practical: (1) it is God and God alone who has the right to determine life and death, and (2) suicide reveals a belief that God is not powerful enough to help you solve your problems. The vast majority of people will agree with us that suicide is a sin. The debate begins, though, with the question of whether suicide is forgivable. Typically, a suicide-related question will be along the lines of: "For God to forgive us, we have to repent from our sins and confess our sins to God. If someone commits suicide, he/she has no opportunity to repent or confess. Therefore, suicide is not a forgivable sin. Anyone who commits suicide is sent straight to hell." There is one primary problem with this line of thought: it does not recognize that Jesus died for ALL of our sins. When God purchased us with the blood of Christ, ALL of our sins were paid for (1 Peter 1:19). If a person who has truly received Jesus Christ as Savior, thereby demonstrating that he/she has been redeemed, reconciled, forgiven, justified, etc., by God, commits suicide, the sin of suicide was covered by the blood of Christ. Now, we can question whether a true Christian could commit suicide, but, if a true Christian were to commit suicide, it would be forgiven. Verses that connect confession with forgiveness (such as 1 John 1:9) are referring to relational forgiveness between a believer and God, not the judicial forgiveness that was perfectly accomplished by the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ. No, suicide is not an unforgivable sin. Suicide is not greater than the price Jesus Christ paid with His atoning sacrifice." What does the Bible say about suicide?

I am not sure what you are referring to. When I said some things are recorded as historical events and they don't mean God condones them, I was talking about only certain events, not everything that happened. In ancient near eastern times for example, men often had multiple wives and concubines. That was how they lived in those days. It doesn't mean God approves of it.
