  1. Canada’s largest union and relative of victim join asbestos campaign - CUPE Quebec’s largest labour group joins fight to ban asbestos My Facts are straight...know what your talking about before you pop off.
  2. He's here for a post count, it's all about quantity not quality for him.
  3. Of course this is wrong, Harper is immoral for allowing it. I would love to see someone intelligent try to defend it. Asbestos is one of the most widely recognized carcinogens and has been outlawed by 40 nations—Canada excluded. We export it to developing nations where safety standards low and workers are exposed to the cancer-causing materials. Under Stephen Harper, Canada exports over 200,000 tonnes of asbestos to poor and developing nations every year. Quebec's largest labour union and all the other party leaders have called for action, but Stephen Harper continues shilling for his corporate masters.
  4. I'm a little confused. Atheism is, in a broad sense, the rejection of belief in the existence of deities. In a narrower sense, atheism is specifically the position that there are no deities. Most inclusively, atheism is simply the absence of belief that any deities exist. Atheism is contrasted with theism, which in its most general form is the belief that at least one deity exists. - From Wikipedia I agree that most atheists have a hate on for organized religions, which is fine with me. But I wonder if they realize that it takes as much faith to be an atheist as it does to be a believer? They Claim to know the unknowable.
  5. Hello Jack Weber and or any one that feels like responding. I was thinking last night about our discussion, and something came to me. All though I am agnostic I have a great deal of respect for the philosophy of Jesus. Spirituality and philosophy is a personal thing, and by personal I mean for him/her to develope. I don't agree with organized religions and dogmas, just like I don't believe in political parties and Ideologies. These things close minds and allow people to separate themselves from the rest of humanity, and are the source of some of the greatest evils in the world. Anyways back to my thoughts. I see a great deal of similarities between what Jesus taught and what Buddha taught. The difference is the rewards of following those teachings. The reward that Jesus talked about was the kingdom of heaven. The reward Buddha talked about was the diminishment of suffering, and greater happiness in the life you are currently living. My question to you is wouldn't Christianity be better off if it focused on the benefits of living your life as was taught by Jesus in this life? Or does it? P.S. another similarity Jesus and Buddha shared from my understanding is that they both had to battle what I would describe as the ego. Jesus took on Satan, and Buddha took on Māra. Any thoughts on this?
  6. A lot of these people are member's of the Ayn Rand cult, and hypocritical Christians.
  7. Yes I'm a Ron Paul supporter, and yes I advocate personal responsibility. Ron Paul is a Libertarian Right so I don't agree with everything he stands for, but there is no doubt for me that he is the only honest politician with common sense that has not been bought out by corporate America that is running in the States. I am not having a pity party for the poor. I'm just pointing out to some of the arrogant posters that hard work is only one factor of success in the monetary sense. Personally I am successful money wise, and really didn't have to work that hard to get here. It's just that I am thankful, and recognize that I had a good upbringing which allows me to have compassion for the less fortunate. I try not to be judgmental, and acknowledge that things are not black and white. Yes you can be a Libertarian and have Compassion for your fellow man/woman.
  8. I don't know what point your trying to make here? Unless the child's grandparents are responsible for their childhood development. And why are you trying to compare child abuse with being picked last for sports teams in school. I provided a few articles that correlate child abuse and criminal activity later in life, and how Childhood Poverty Impacts Future Success. But I guess you do better with gut feelings and personal experience than you do with facts provided by professionals. Well of course there is and they make great movies that you conservatives cling to as examples. Like The Pursuit of Happyness with Will Smith. But these success stories are few and far between. I think your thought process goes like this. Hey I worked really hard to be where I am, and I see all these lazy people crying because they aren't as successful as me. And I'm not saying you are completely wrong. These people exist. Where I think you are wrong is that you over emphasize hard work as the major factor. I don't know your background but I'm willing to bet that if you are successful you were probably raised by good parents, that encouraged you. They weren't heavy drinkers and drug users, and they didn't beat and or abuse you. They probably weren't criminals there by setting a good example for you. You were probably not molested by a family member or family friend. And you didn't grow up with a learning disability. You probably aren't short and or ugly with any kind of physical disability. And because you had a proper child hood you probably have good social skills ( this one I'm really not sure of ). Not everyone is as lucky as you in this world and most of them need a little compassion and a lot less judgements made on them by people that have a lack of empathy. Maybe lack of empathy is your handicap. A handicap that actually benefits you in the business world. Maybe lack of empathy, a good childhood, and yes hard work is the reason for your success.
  9. WOW you've got balls to call it a "failed socialist system", when it plain for everyone to see that it's a failed Capitalist system, and an American Empire in its death throes.
  10. Canadian Justice Minister Rob Nicholson attempts (pathetically) to weasel-out of giving CTV journalist Seamus O'Regan the cost of the Safe Streets and Communities Act, the new Conservative omnibus crime bill. Kim Pate from the Association of Elizabeth Fry Societies says the new Conservative 'Safe Streets and Communities Act' will not deter crime but will hurt Canadians.
  11. I don't know why I'm surprised, but WOW . Any comments from the conservative poster here on this site? Ohhhh Please try and defend this. Headline should read HARPER LIKES BABY RAPERS MORE THAN POT GROWERS
  12. Here is some logic for you Atheists
  13. OK but can this have something to do with Christians in Canada? I don't know, do they watch those guys up here?
  14. As long as you also include their experiences as a child Was your family poor Were you molested as a child Were you beaten as a child were your parents supportive Were your parents heavy drug users or alcoholics Were your parents criminals Did you suffer from any learning disabilities Child abuse and crime - 4th 2007, by The Economist Childhood Poverty Impacts Future Success How about other factors that effect success. Are you short Are you un-attractive Do you suffer from a handicap Are you socially ackward My point is success has very little to do with hard work. But I'm sure people would pat you on the back if your hand wasn't in the way.
  15. Perhaps you could provide an example? I've never had any gay activists trying to tell me how I need to think.
  16. I'm not gay and not an expert on the subject but I think that a civil union is all that the gay community is asking for. I don't think they want to force churches to perform ceremonies, they just want the same rights provided by the government that traditional marriages receive.
  17. It would be a lot more fun debating you if you knew what you are talking about. The first thing you should understand about the word "narcotic" is that it is used incorrectly more than it is used correctly. Marijuana, cocaine, and meth are not"narcotics". The word "narcotic" comes from the Greek word "narkos", meaning sleep. Therefore, "narcotics" are drugs that induce sleep. Specifically, that means the opiates such as heroin, morphine and related drugs. Cocaine and meth are not "narcotics". They are "stimulants", the exact opposite of a "narcotic". They cause people to be more awake and more active, not sleepy. Marijuana and alcohol may even have a tendency to induce sleep at times. However, calling them "narcotics" simply shows a lack of understanding of the different effects. You sould call marijuana a psychoactive drug.
  18. So you don't drink alcohol for entertainment on a regular basis? What ever a regular basis means. One drink a year at Christmas is a regular basis. mind-altering drug - a drug that can produce mood changes and distorted perceptions (sounds like alcohol to me) Beverage alcohol (ethyl alcohol) is a drug. But exactly what is a drug? A drug is simply “Any substance which when absorbed into a living organism may modify one or more of its functions.” by David J. Hanson, Ph.D. As far as "dangerous mind altering drugs" how many deaths a caused by marijuana as compared to alcohol? Judge Not Lest Ye Be Judged, and Let Him Who is Without Sin Cast the First Stone Scotty boy
  19. Well I've just got one word..WOW. Although we disagree on the issues of pro life/pro choice and gay rights I find your attitude and philosophy a breath of fresh air on this forum. I run into a lot of narrow minded hypocritical right wing Christians on this forum ( no offence American Woman, and lukin)
  20. I assuming that he is referring to Ontario's feed in tariff. Of which I totally agree with and wish was implemented in every province. BC is following Ontario's lead to a degree. I could point out to him that he could invest in solar panels for his roof and make 80.2 ¢/kWh What is the Feed-in Tariff Program? http://fit.powerauthority.on.ca/what-feed-tariff-program

  22. I appreciate your candor as a "believer" and am very pleased that you didn't take offence to my question. Other than the abortion issue can you think of any other reasons Christians line up on the side of the political right. I would think it's might also be because the right claim to advocate "family Values", but I'm not sure I know what this means to them and the people that support them. Perhaps their anti-same sex marriage stance? How would you define "family Values"? Note: A Synonym for Hypocrisy is Bad Faith...lol
  23. Don't you know this is the Conservative way. Don't think about anything just follow the great leaders orders. They are a Totalitarian party trying to work within a democratic Country. It's never about what is good for Canada with these people, it all about power and control. Why don't they just call themselves what the really are The Canadian Totalitarian Neo-Liberal Party.
