  1. Where's the ROFLMAO icon when you need it most. Trump is a globalist. He's defunded WHO because he screwed up and needs to place blame elsewhere.
  2. Enough of that! If I wanna play my music in my front yard on a sunny afternoon, I don't need anti-freedom types like you coming along and telling me to shut it down!
  3. 1. Yup, most followers of religions do. 2. Yup, some think think their book tells them to hate/kill such people. It's been proven throughout history and even currently throughout the world.
  4. Why do you use "America's money" to beat people up with? Trump acts like the playground bully (and you stand right behind him) - "Be nice to me, or I'll leave and take all my toys!" He's making the world a worse place, just like all the worst rulers in history have. But we humans struggle on, just as we always do after dictators, despots and just stupid, cruel and narcissistic leaders have had their time in the sun. Trudeau may be flakey and ineffectual in many ways, but he's not actively making the world worse for millions or even billions of people.
  5. I'm sure we'll struggle through without the bully in the room. Better than Trump, that's for sure.
  6. I didn't claim that - that's what Trump claimed - I quoted it for you. Perhaps you need to get your eyes checked, so you don't miss entire words in a post. Trudeau could have done better; on the other hand, he's been a lot less flakey and weird than Trump and that's a plus in my book. If he was so many steps ahead of WHO (and everybody else), I'd say it was in his mind - and somehow he beamed it into your mind, because evidence demonstrates otherwise. He failed to implement a travel ban, other than a limited one from China; he failed to prepare with masks/respirators in advance, or PPE for medical workers; he failed to call for or support any kind of social distancing restrictions. You've hung your admiration on a SINGLE PARTIAL BAN for travel from China, and decided this is proof. It's pretty bizarre. So, you are simultaneously claiming that Trump knew way before anyone else, prepared better than anyone else and also that he didn't because he 'listened to advice'? OH, so twisty. LOL
  7. Since Trump is 'so much smarter', why hasn't he mandated masks in the US? And why didn't his travel 'ban' work to keep the US from becoming the country with the most covid deaths? And why didn't Trump do more, way before March 11 - the day WHO declared a pandemic? After all, he said - on March 17 that "This is a pandemic. I felt it was a pandemic long before it was called a pandemic"; if he knew, why didn't he do more? You want to ask the tough questions about WHO, maybe also ask the same tough questions about Trump. But I know you can explain all this away, WCM; you can blame China, or WHO or the Democrats. You can hold everybody to a much higher standard than you'll hold Trump, because what else can you do when you realize your emperor has no clothes and has feet of clay?
  8. I've wondered this myself; I think JT loses more votes than he gains among immigrants from conservative countries when he supports gay marriage, LGBTQ+, abortion, etc. I think it's a bit of a myth that bringing in immigrants = more votes. Immigrants aren't entirely dumb, they understand that voting allows them to direct government policy and if they want to direct government policy towards less progressive policies, they know which party that is. They don't like the conservatives anti-immigrant rhetoric, though. I've seen that on other discussion forums - "Liberals have values I don't agree with, but Conservatives seem to really dislike people like me." The only reason I can think of is that, despite the claim that immigrants are merely Liberals way of 'getting more votes', they know perfectly well that the immigrant vote would not give them enough to outweigh their base that prefers their anti-immigrant rhetoric. It's odd, though, since it doesn't really matter who is in power - immigration increases don't change all that much between the two parties. https://www.thewalrus-factchecking.com/post/fact-check-is-the-liberal-government-rapidly-increasing-immigration-levels-in-canada
  9. Good point; 'ban' has no doubt become a trigger word to simultaneously reassure and console all the folks, regardless of what's actually happening.
  10. I didn't vote. I have no reason to believe WHO deliberately withheld or spread misinformation in order to harm people, the economy, Trump or the GOP. Certainly, they've made mistakes - being a body comprised of humans - but who doesn't? Certainly not me. Not to mention, the US was one of the first countries to ban international travel (I don't know if this is true; it's just what's claimed on this forum) but they have among the highest number of cases and the most deaths of any country. Maybe WHO wasn't actually wrong when they said limiting international travel isn't effective? Masks are now recommended for some things, but it's a pretty lackadaisical recommendation for most of us - the message seems to be "they may help, so wear it if you are at risk and in public, if you want to". Only for those actively caring for people at home with Covid are masks strongly recommended, along with gloves, regular disinfection and isolating the patient in a room separate from everyone else. It sounded to me like they didn't change their stance so much as they decided to validate what people wanted to do anyway. In any case, how come if the WHO (mistakenly or even otherwise) says "No reason to limit international travel" or "masks aren't needed", they should be defunded and are "liars" and need to be investigated, but if Trump says "This medicine is an effective treatment for Covid" and it turns out that medicine kills you, he's still a shining God and the people who followed his advice are "stupid"? Also, reports say that both Trudeau and Trump were given information about this virus by their military intelligence in January and November respectively. Trudeau has been lambasted on this forum for not acting on it right away by conservatives and Trumpsters, but Trump hasn't been. Why the double standard, hmm?
  11. Well, we're not all *elitists*, but we are the ones who recognize that certain characteristics give people a 'helping hand' in society. This includes physical features, such as weight, how old you look, how 'attractive' you look, and your skin color, among other things. One thing I really like about my employer's hiring practices is that they've gone a long way towards eliminating those kinds of biases. They do seem to select people based primarily on their suitability for the job and not other factors that aren't really important. I won't say they're perfect, of course, because humans are humans and bias can creep in despite our own best efforts. But they are at least making a good effort, rather than engaging in denial as so many on this forum are doing. You can't improve things if you refuse to admit anything needs improving.
  12. Not to mention, even healthy young people, with no underlying conditions and with mild covid symptoms can have very bad outcomes.
  13. I've listened to racist dickheads since I've been in gradeschool. They're not hard to spot, and on this forum its like shooting fish in a barrel. So, don't tell ne I don't know what I'm talking abou We will be, if this virus keeps up. Of course, racists won't complain about the security risks of masks that hide faces, or that we can only see the eyes of people we're intrracting with, and that a full face is required for a proper social communication. Because it's all bullshit of course. Racists don't care about social interaction or security, only about demonizing "the other". (And if you don't like the word "racist" in relation to Muslims, substitute Islamophobe. They're essentially the same thing.)
  14. But no racism, lol! I don't think it's immigrants who create divisiveness; I think it's social and religious right wingers that create divisiveness because of attitudes like yours, expressed above. That's because they think people like you don't really exist in Canada. They think Canada is filled with people like me - accepting of immigrants and refugees. So you can thank people like me for those "good feelings".
  15. Too bad, imo. It'd be a lot less troll-like than " Why are so many Canadians so racist".
  16. FFS, "that poster" didn't mention "deserving" at all. Pointing out the advantage white people have getting a job in Canada doesn't speak to whether or not white people "deserve" jobs. Sheesh.
  17. You are right, my word choice was unclear. Let me fix it: Every time you applied for a job, your name and your skin color gave you a significant edge over someone with a foreign-sounding name and darker skin, even when your qualifications were identical.
  18. To be fair, she didn't assert that at all. She merely asked why some Canadians are loudly racist. However, most responses have pointed out that racism in Canada is less than many other places.
  19. Pretty much, yup. That's also what drives anti-Semitism, Islamaphobia, homophobia etc. In my opinion, of course. I don't exclude that possibility at all; my comment re: poltical leaders implied exactly that. But if you want to discuss how political leadership affects levels of expressed racism, that's a different discussion than "why are some Canadians so loudly racist", don't you think.
  20. Fear of different and belief in one's own superiority drives racism, everywhere, including in Islam majority countries and among Muslims. In countries where political leadership fails to take a clear and firm stance against racism of any kind, its worse. It's really not that hard to figure out, so I agree with whoever it was called this a troll post. And yeah, this issue is worse in Muslim-majority countries, so maybe confine yourself to asking why that is and what you can do about it, you being Muslim and all. Ciao.
  21. For those Muslims, it's because they believe their religion is the best and only true religion, and because they believe their holy book, the Koran, tells them to hate others and even to kill them. Not all Muslims believe this way, of course, just as not all Canadians are racists. Why don't you tell us why you think people hate on others who are different in some way.
  22. Probably similar to the reasons some Muslims are so loud about their hatred of non-Muslims, gays, Jews, etc.
  23. I figured as much. I had renos planned, everything set up and scheduled. Then businesses started closing and distancing became the newest trend. The contractor came by, checked some measurements, we discussed safety measures related to Covid. A few days later he let us know he was sick, did not say Covid, but symptoms match. That was two weeks ago, don't know how he's doing, hope to hear in the next few days. A couple of my clients have had family members in the hospital; one was hospitalized for almost 3 weeks. None of these are "old people, near death". So far, nobody has died that I know even peripherally, but these people are being taken out of the work force for weeks at a time, even though they've taken precautions. And people like you think that it's a good idea to assume that only old people are at risk, or that 10s of thousands of young (under 60) people getting sick and a few thousand of them dying will be "better" for the economy than what's happening now. As if the economy is worth any number of lives. But I suppose until it happens to you or someone close to you, its just not real.
  24. My 28 year old niece-in-law in on a ventilator. She has a six month old son. She's more likely to survive than an 80 year old would be, but she might not survive. Her husband got it through delivering medical supplies to seniors homes; both he and the son got mild cases. If only those least at risk are the ones you advocate putting at risk, they'll be the ones dying. You aren't just taking about sacrificing people "near death", but everybody of any age group.
