  1. I think as people are outside more, the virus doesn't spread as quickly. A spike from the riots probably won't be seen for another few days. In BC, we haven't had a death since last Friday (as of yesterday), and Dix does not want the border to the US opened. Cases in Washington State, Oregon, California continue to be high and we want to avoid Americans or Canadians returning from Stateside vacations bringing the virus in.
  2. Spot on. Or at least as much accuracy as can be had; sometimes there's not enough info, such as in the case of a virus that's only been in the human population for 7 months, and in Western nations for 6 months.
  3. Yes, when your misinformation campaign is interrupted with facts, it's best to scroll on by. Why draw attention?
  4. Pfft. I haven't used a single CNN source. In the last few days, I've used CTV, ABC, NYT, Guardian, Telegrah, Advisory, Officer Down Advisory and Fox News as sources. Trust a single-source partisan knee-jerk reactionary for the truth? You're kidding right?
  5. I get info from diverse sources; I recently linked a Fox news source just for you. If I'm going to believe anyone, it's not going to be some right-wing Trump supporter. Unlike you, I understand that when a completely new thing appears, it's going to take some time to figure it out; that applies to stars, deep sea animals and viruses. I understand that as knowledge grows, information and advice may change. Unlike you, I don't consider these people infallible, and don't find it necessary to discredit or ignore them because they changed their direction based on available evidence. Not long ago, some people were lauding Sweden for not shutting down; now, they are admitting that may have been a mistake. Different countries have had different strategies, some more effective than others. The entire world has a learning curve on this virus that's just begun. No, its because if the blatant hypocrisy you're being caught in. You won't give anyone room to learn or change - except Trump. You dismiss or ignore or excuse Trump's mistakes while treating Trudeau's like a major crime for which he should be drawn and quartered. You're extremely partisan and that makes you stupid.
  6. 81.4% of Canadians live in cities. Perhaps you need to change your username - RarelyRight might be more accurate.
  7. Not surprised. The insanely extreme generally think little of those who don't share their insanity.
  8. Well, clearly you consider yourself some kind of expert about absolutely everything, including whether or not scientists are right, wrong, honest or dishonest. There's a term for your type: Dunning-Kruger Effect. Basically its a cognitive bias whereby people who are incompetent at something are unable to recognize their own incompetence.
  9. From the Guardian, 4 working age people who've been unable to work since March due to Covid. Their symptoms were not life-threatening enough to send them to hospital, but bad enough to keep them from carrying on life as normal. This seems to be common enough that FB support groups are forming. The article also references 151 medical professionals who became ill; 68 have still not returned to work. For people who promote the idea that younger people are scarcely affected, that we need only protect "vulnerable" people, you forget that we're still learning about this virus. More information is emerging about the long term effects of Covid, though not much data about how many suffer life-changing effects for weeks and months after. Until we know more, rushing to re-open the economy, or attain some degree of "herd immunity" could be even more disastrous to our country and economy than continuing to be cautious.
  10. My word? Did you not read the articles about scientists tracking various covid strains? Or are you just the usual extremist right-wing, anti-science type?
  11. Also interesting: in January, a strain of the virus arrived in Washington State, from Wuhan, and within weeks travelled to several other States, Canada, Australia, Iceland, the UK, Mexico, Uraguay and the Grand Princess cruiseship. According to scientists, that strain accounts for 25% of cases in the US.
  12. In British Columbia, most of the viruses sequenced back to Eastern Canada, Europe and the States. The virus that hit New York originated in Europe. Closing borders might help, but you have to close borders to all visitors not just one region. People travelling from China to Europe brought the virus with them, and then Europeans brought it to the States and Canada.
  13. Also, when I used Google to search "police killed during 2020 riots" I got this hit among the top five, among others. This is from Fox, so you should like it. https://www.foxnews.com/us/police-under-siege-attacks-on-law-enforcement-in-wake-of-george-floyds-death According to that list, a retired police officer was killed and another active police officer was shot in the head, and is on life support. Many have been injured, from minor injuries to more serious. Anyway, maybe there's something about your search history that results in garbage results, and has nothing to do with a plot to advance fascism.
  14. Thanks. Police officers killed in line of duty, 2020. 19 in May, 3 in June. In 2020, 41 cops have died from Covid out of a total of 96 deaths so far.
  15. Good luck with that; seek out crowds. Remember to wear a mask around vulnerable people, even if you feel fine, cause you could kill someone before you even know you're sick.
  16. What you believe is wrong. Herd immunity requires a significant percentage of people be immune; the exact percentage depends on how contagious the virus is. About 10% of infected people require hospitalization. So yeah, it would be an issue. And what about the high risk people these barely sick people would inevitably infect? Or is the plan that we physically separate people based on age. Even if the plan worked, the end result would be "herd immunity" for young people (under 60? Under 50? Whats the cut-off?) and no immunity for those older - so contact between the age groups would have to remain curtailed. I don't know what age category you'd fall into, but it's either your parents/grandparents or your kids/grandkids you'd have to avoid for the indefinite future. I hope so. There's all kinds of stuff being claimed; just read a sciency article making the claim that certain strains of cannabis can prevent the virus from entering cells. "More study is needed" of course, but by tomorrow I expect all kinds of anecdotes about how someone was saved by smoking pot or how only the non-pot smokers got sick.
  17. How long do you think it would take to infect 26,000,000 people slowly enough that our hospitals aren't overwhelmed by serious and critical cases? I think that will take longer than "waiting for a vaccine".
  18. Here's a fun way to play with data ... 2020 Global death rates from all causes https://public.flourish.studio/visualisation/2562261/?fbclid=IwAR0czCnlTRcqhzohtsnqYbWgl5gpnWf6PPo4rQpR18vToRP30FbjXV71qlM
  19. I believe the expectation is dying with dignity. Abandoned in a bed to shit yourself to death is not dignified. This is the kind of story that persuades me assisted suicide must be an option, and people should be able to exercise that option as a future choice, left in the hands of someone they trust.
  20. We've got a workout area on our covered patio - chin- up bar, TRX, weights, and bench. Works pretty well, and no masks. Don't know if we'll ever go back to the gym, athough I do miss the pool.
  21. I have asthma and an immune reducing condition called "over 60". If I got the virus, I don't think I'd have a mild version. I wear a mask for shopping and transit, not so much because it, in itself, will stop the virus, but because I notice other people try harder to give me distance. That's a win for me. :). Admittedly, its hard to imagine wearing a mask till there's a vaccine, but I don't want to end up in hospital, on a ventilator, or dead so ... Mask and hand washing seem a small price to pay to avoid that.
  22. Oh, looks like a stinging meme! You should have paid more attention to my other post ... Unless of course you think Democrat-skewering memes are always 100% accurate, and only Republican-skewering memes ever spread BS.
  23. Memes - eye-catching, amusing, simple - perfect delivery method for us vs. them politics, misinformation and outright lies.
