So, exactly how has your life changed under Islam?
-
I've posted my definition a few times. By the way, you still haven't answered a question I asked a few days back. Here is the conversation, from Sept 22, Pages 262-263, to jog your memory: Me: 19 wounded and 6 dead Muslims demonstrate that [Islamophobia exists] never mind the fact that reported hate crimes against Muslims has risen over 250% in 4 years. Argus: Your complaint of a rise in hate crimes is without merit. People are reacting to outsiders and the news. Virtually all such 'hate crimes' are minor in nature, and consist of verbal abuse or vandalism. Me: Even when those crimes are directed against Jews? Argus: The biggest threat against Jews is Muslims. Me: Do you have some facts to back that up? As far as I have been able to determine, white nationalists are usually the culprits when it comes to Jews, Blacks and now, Muslims. In 2015, hate crimes against Jews declined over the previous year and increased against Muslims; that seems odd if Muslims are the biggest threat to Jews. Anyway, if the crimes against Jews and Muslims are similar in both type and number (178 to 159) should they also be dismissed as minor?

I concur with MH. I have put a bunch on my ignore list, too, because they seem completely unable to engage in any critical thinking. Mostly they are the "Don't trust the MSM" types, because they somehow think that being gullible and accepting completely shit stories because it's "not MSM" makes them smarter than anyone else. These people tend to choose emotional clickbait news stories to inform their world view, and disregard facts and evidence that contradict the basis for their feel-mad emotions. There are also those who are one-trick pony types, clearly trolls bent on simply getting a reaction. You can call it 'delusions of grandeur' all you want; I call it cutting out the noise.

An ad calling for understanding, respect and tolerance instead of hate, fear and violence is "giving up"?

Catholic Bishop advises women they can avoid beatings by obeying their husbands.

I distinguish between good and bad people.
-
Yeah there is, but not when I am faced with someone who has had a couple of bad interactions with war-traumatized Muslims tells me, who has had many great interactions with dozens of Muslims, that my experience is atypical and theirs is typical. There is no in-between for people who insist that Sharia law is coming, or who cherry pick verses from the quran to "prove" all Muslims are or will be violent, but deny the validity of those Muslims who are peaceful because of what the koran teaches.
-
Nope. Islam doesn't promote violence any more than I think Democracy promotes the violence the US and Canada have been involved in.
-
That is a response to the hysteria of "we are all gonna die from terrorism"; its not justifying murder. But of course you decide an attempt at a realistic perspective is stupid and attack that. Good on you, supporting hysteria.
-
How desensitized are you to this: https://goo.gl/images/ad3jxW
-
You sure don't waste any effort disputing them or even trying to support facts instead of their hysteria. Instead, you criticize those who aren't succumbing to hysteria.
-
If you didn't think the news defined 'normal' you wouldn't make asinine statements defending the hysteria of Islamophobes.
-
If you want to say Islam promotes violence, then you must also say that the West promotes violence. The US has been at war, somewhere, for all but a few years of its existence. Canada is not far behind. Sure, we can tell ourselves we.are.on the side of "good" but the people on the other side of our violence would not agree.
-
You do seem inclined to believe that the news defines "normal" more than lack of news does.

Was the end result of this the elimination of similar Catholic and Jewish panels overseeing their adherent's family matters? Isn't this just example another example of how unfounded fear removes freedoms for everyone, while doing absolutely nothing to make us safer? https://www.google.ca/amp/s/www.theglobeandmail.com/news/national/ontario-bill-bans-faith-based-tribunals/article1131070/%3Fservice=amp#ampshare=https://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/national/ontario-bill-bans-faith-based-tribunals/article1131070/

I choose not to be afraid and to believe those Muslims who tell us they believe in following the laws of the country they live in, they are proud of Canada as is, and have no desire to make Sharia law part if Canadian law. Those Muslims don't make the news of course.
-
You said, in your status update: it's another to push the religion. Considering the CBC and the Star are trying to normalize Sharia via their recent articles one has to wonder what we are being softened up for.
-
Its not exactly as presented. Toronto School District holds heritage months for Judaism, Hinduism, Sikhism and Islam. Islamic Heritage month is October, and the educators guide provides resources for teachers and administrators. Of course, some people have decided this is the a way to sneak Islam Sharia law onto all Canadians. Will the people who are concerned about Islam being forced onto students show equal concern next Spring when Heritage months for Jews, Sikhs, Aboriginals and Hispanics roll around?

My heart goes out to the people in Edmonton affected by this attack. Along with all Canadians, I condemn this violence and the people who think hatred and violence are acceptable.
-
I do not think your statement is accurate; you think it is. This could be considered a difference of opinion or even belief, but if you prefer to claim I am calling you a liar, fill your boots.
-
I didn't claim you lied. I merely made clear that I doubted the accuracy of your claim. Lying is deliberate deceit, but you may only be mistaken in what you believe. I notice you continue to misrepresent what I say. Why is that, I wonder?
-
Ohh.. Scary picture!!
-
He does still attend the Church he was raised in, so even if what you say is remotely accurate, he is no longer a Muslim.
-
Nice. Hope JT pays attention and starts fulfilling the promises he got elected on.

I agree that perhaps there are people who would fail to stand up for what they believe, but would it really be that many? And given the anti-Muslim sentiment already present in Canada, wouldn't that work to give people the courage to stand against what they believe is wrong, even if it is framed as a moral issue? I think people have to be worked up to get discriminatory laws passed. The head tax against the Chinese didn't come about after sober reflection; it came about as the end result of a campaign against Chinese immigrants. Same with the legislation to inter Japanese in the second world war - the populace wasn't 'tricked' into doing something they disapproved of because it was framed as a moral issue, they were led, through propaganda, to feel threatened by the Japanese and so when the government enacted discriminatory legislation, it was essentially accepted. I think a more likely (though not very, at least in Canada) scenario is that laws are passed that will restrict the freedom of Muslims. That has historically been the end result when a group has been targeted in similar ways to how Muslims are being targeted today. Japanese in Canada and in the States, Jews in Germany - they were all accused of 'threatening' the culture of their country, of having an agenda to 'take over' to the detriment of the rest of the citizens, of being a threat to women and children.
