The United States joins Botswana, Burundi, Egypt, Ethiopia, Bangladesh, China, India, Iraq, Japan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates to oppose a resolution condemning the "imposition of the death penalty as a sanction for specific forms of conduct, such as apostasy, blasphemy, adultery and consensual same-sex relations."    According to US State Department Spokesperson Heather Nauert, the US did not support the resolution because it also called for States still using the death penalty to consider abolishing it.  

"Barbarity" is clearly in the eye of the beholder.
