  1. Of course I would if I hadn't gone to university to get a better job, but then again I'm not an elitist bureaucrat whose hands have been soaking in ivory their whole life. As far as the "rounding error", that number is just the ttc employees making over 100k from working overtime. There are thousands of workers collecting inflated paycheques, benefits, and pensions that account for 1bil of the 1.5bil operating budget of the ttc (which I believe accounts for around 50% of toronto's spending). Yes, about 30% of toronto's money goes to paying the salary and wages of bus drivers, garbage pickers, token collectors, and the brilliant managers who have brought us our world class one hour commute times.
  2. I'm sorry what? You can't blame everything on the banks. Actually it's the government that forces you to get mortgage loan insurance if you put down less than a 20% down payment. This is to encourage the banks to make mortgage loans with low interest rates to people with poor credit and low incomes. That's when people like you cry because the bank wants its money back when jacee defaults on the loan that the government coerced the banks into providing her.
  3. Of course I have no source. None of this petty stuff was important when the "natural governing party" was in power. It was called "politics". Now that the pigs were given the boot from the trough, they run to the left wing consensus media to blow every minor incident of "politics" into a scandal and you lefty sheep lap it up. Now repeat after me: We the baaaaaa 99%.... vow to end the regime of baaaaa.... corporate personhood that threatens the baaaaa.... earth and all it's citizens baaaaa.
  4. Is this stuff as comedic to anyone else? I love reading posts from "the sky is falling" portion of the left.
  5. Actually it's because 90% of Chinese ride bikes because they are too impoverished to afford cars. I don't know why these lefties keep bringing up Chinese per capita emissions. Yes if the average income in Canada were $5000/yr we'd have much lower per capita emissions too! But at least we'd have more trees! Such a ludicrous argument.
  6. Going to an international conference and encouraging other countries to "turn your back on Canada"... yes Canada-hating seems appropriate. If the "fossil of the day award" tally fueled their hatred for Canada then I think even less of them then before.
  7. Source for my belief that I'm sure the "other guys" have done something like this? See the post of mine that you quoted.
  8. http://www.thestar.com/News/GTA/article/611565 I believe you posted earlier that the TTC has a 1.5bil budget. Well there's 1bil of it there. Or your own source: http://stevemunro.ca/?p=456 (this guy says he gets a 4 hour break and complains that his workday is 12 hours long, when he is paid for 9 hours and only works 7.5 ) Do your own research, there was an article in the national post in 2007 about this but I can't seem to locate it. I did find a quote from the article posted in another forum: "City workers, even the unskilled kind, make a considerable hourly wage. Janitors make at least $19.56/hour, litter pickers $21.11/hour, garbage collectors $24.14/hour, meter readers $26.58/hour, bus and subway drivers $26.58/hour and bylaw enforcement officers $28.67/hour, to cite a few examples." http://canadianmoneyforum.com/archive/index.php/t-782.html No it is not a skilled job. Anyone who can drive can learn to drive a bus within 6 months. You have a very loose definition of skilled.
  9. I actually don't mind the notion of higher property taxes if it meant the ttc underwent a massive overhaul. There is nothing more unproductive than having millions of workers stuck in gridlock for an two hours every day. Not to mention the amount of gasoline that has to be consumed every day by all of those workers (wasting money on imported oil/gas rather than on potentially investing/saving). I would be happy if our subway system was twice or three times as big... maybe with express subway lines running parallel to the current lines. For example, a line that went from finch to eglinton to bloor to dundas to union. It could run that route in 10 minutes, bringing uptown and north york residents downtown and back much more effectively than the current line. My problem is with the unionized wages of ttc employees. IMO the service cuts are just an excuse to keep the heat on these overpaid, skill-less bums. The ttc's message: "we're cutting services and hiking fares so we can continue to pay fare collectors who sleep on the job over 100k, and so we can pay rude bus drivers who physically assault passengers 50k." There's your gravy train. Gut the ttc and its unionized employees, then talk about raising taxes to fix the ttc.
  10. There's nothing selfish about it. People work hard for their money. Their labour means that they will be demanding less services from the public purse. Their labour (in the private sector) means that someone else is profiting off of them and paying taxes on that profit, and creating more jobs on the after-tax profit. Their labour provides them with an income with which they can buy goods and services creating more jobs. Their labour provides them with an income to invest in stocks and bonds which provide companies with capital to hire more people. Their labour, in our service-oriented economy, is likely providing a service to a consumer who demanded that service. No, what is selfish is stealing the fruits of people's labour for your own ideologies (green energy, universal health car, welfare, ei, etc.)
  11. It's almost like she's suggesting the ttc had other options such as not paying token collectors $25/hr. Buying more garbages seems like a hell of a lot cheaper way to keep the TTC clean than hiring unionized garbage pickers for $20/hr. It's a pretty simply fix once you get around the unions. Implement smart pass systems, fire token collectors getting paid $25/hr + benefits, hire security guards to monitor the smart pass system for $14/hr. Fire garbage pickers making $20/hr + benefits, hire garbage bins making $20/10yrs. Fire unionized bus drivers making $25/hr + benefits, hire non-unionized bus drivers to be paid a wage that is appropriate for their "skills"... let's say $15/hr with no benefits. Just saved the city millions.
  12. I think you could narrow it down to ideology and leave out the "selfishness, gullibility, and ignorance". There's nothing selfish, gullible, or ignorant about wanting to keep more of your money in exchange for less "services".
  13. I'm sure they have.
  14. Hopefully people stop hiring this Canada-hating hippie anarchist now.
  15. It's obvious that the 1% has brainwashed the 63.5%. Only the 99%, represented by the enlightened 0.1% reflect the true beliefs of Canadians. Occupy!!!
  16. Who do you think? The evil bankers! But seriously, it's just a bad debt that the lender would write off like any other bad debt.
  17. Wtf kind of argument is this? Because he doesn't collect welfare that he pays taxes for but doesn't qualify for, he shouldn't collect cpp which he has also overpaid for but will qualify for? You lefties have a strange way of viewing the world.
  18. As I said, I don't have access to a computer right now. I'm posting from my phone. Pretty sure ny numbers are fairly accurate but I'm not about to start looking through statscan pages on my blackberry. Are you afraid to pull the statistics because you know I'm right? For the record I'm from ontario and I don't really care about the childish arguing about provinces, but I do care about pointing out the truth about ontario's "diversified" economy. And why so mad bro? Calm down, no need to insult people who have different political beliefs than you. Not very tolerant are you?
  19. You must be even younger than 16. You weren't aware that politicians lie and waste taxpayer money? Welcome to the real world. I hope this wasn't as shocking as your recent Santa revelation.
  20. Good point. He may be hitler ii. I never thought of that.
  21. No. I wouldn't mind seeing him fined for the cost of his joyride though. In fact, fine all public servants whenever they are caught purposely wasting taxpayer money (which is a hell of a lot more than 30 times a year), and then write all Canadians a cheque at the end of the year.
  22. raping children, crusading against unbelievers... awesome values christians have.. bombing people, burning people alive, kidnapping and beheading people... awesome values muslims have.. Come on, you can do better than that. Wait, who am I kidding.. No you can't.
  23. What are you? 16? You've probably been following politics and the news for less than 3 years, what do you know about what a major scandal is? There's 30 stories a year like this one. You think conservatives just found out there's wastage and corruption in the government?
  24. I'm not gonna change my core values because some mp took a joyride in a helicopter. Sorry to dissappoint you guys, you're not gonna get conservative minded people to vote against their values because of a few minor overblown "scandals". I happen to think the conservatives are the best for this country even with a helicopter joyride, a few phone calls, and a mayor swearing at a dispatch operator.
  25. I wouldn't say it's unconditional, but my values are only even remotely reflected by the cpc. A helicopter ride and some phone calls aren't going to change my values or the values of 40% of Canadians. Sorry to disappoint you guys, better get cracking on that party merger.
