Two arguments Ive heard for the Edmonton arena are that the wave of people in the area pre and post game (event) will offer a lot of business, and that the Rexall neighborhood is crap because its low density population, whereas the downtown area is higher density (though I dont know what difference that one makes, or even how accurate).

So after everything we've been talking about, the only positive being realized for the city is that its filling ugly vacant space with something new and cool? That "facility improvement fee" is BS too.

The ticket tax was only a suggestion by the mayor, and expected to raise $125 mil (why not more, I dont know). Another $125 mil from a CRL. Community Revitalization Levy Plus $100 mil from Katz.

I've heard kimmys argument before, and would totally agree with it, but like Black Dog said about Rexall... Where does the concept come from that a building that generates a lot of money would put a lot of money into the community it's in? Does it have something to do with zoning (which I have almost no understanding of)? If construction was to begin within the next two years, I would want Bonams argument followed through, and the bill lowered from $400 mil.

From www.taxpayer.com: When I heard about this on the news I certainly thought it was an outrageous idea. Any thoughts as to whether or not it will go through, if people actually want it or why it should or shouldnt go through? As cool as some new arenas would be, I just think we have bigger concerns right now. I think they should put the whole plan on hold for awhile.

Precisely.

And the wisdom of transporting a schwack load of timber that whole distance, through a schwack load of forest. -
Agreed, however since they raised the necessary hours worked in order to qualify for EI it's pretty tough to get if you've been working seasonal. I worked a 5 month seasonal job full time and I was short hours by about two weeks. I was pretty unhappy about that considering when you first get into forestry one often has to do contract work for awhile, and the industry is screwed right now... I think I'm a pretty good example of somebody that could have legitimately used EI between contracts, but it's pretty tough to make the cut.

Cool! It's good to have a fellow Edmontonian. Though I'm sorry I asked, it happened to kick off a lot of moronic comments...

The people on this forum all have different ideological beliefs and points of view. It would be a good representation of the Canadian population, except that the people on this forum care about how our country is run. If youre a right winger, why would you want to go to a right wing forum? You wouldnt learn anything...

But like RNG said, 1/3 of it goes in the trash. Sooooo.........

I keep hearing again and again how there is actually not a limited supply of food, for the demand of it that is. Something to do with people eating way more food than they need to, throwing a ton of it out, and stockpiling, perhaps among other things. Apparently there is more than enough food out there to feed the whole planet. As for the source of this information; tons of articles in magazines and on the internet over the last decade.

Soooooo... vehicle registration and bill of sale are the same thing?
-
My bad on the tractor/vehicle thing. My girlfriend works for Alberta Registries and according to her you can have as many unregistered vehicles as you like so long as they stay on private property (unlike unregistered rifles). She says the purpose of registering the vehicle is to show that it is in active status, not salvage, stolen or not road worthy. guyser, when you speak of them being registered off the assembly line I think you're thinking of something else. Perhaps the VIN being registered in the manufacturers database? Also, regarding the expiring plates; the stickers on your plates which expire ARE your registration. They expire yearly on the month your last name lands on.

Better than the mods on most of the forums I've been on in the past. Some of them try to be judges to every debate, delete innocent threads theyve determined to be flaming with reckless abandon and leave a trail of banned accounts in there wake... -
Wouldnt you just by a car from somebody whose registration is expired? I think what saipan is saying is that you can own an uninsured, unregistered vehicle and drive it without it being confiscated. They MAY confiscate it depending on the circumstances of course, and the discretion of the officer that pulls you over. If its an unregistered rifle locked in a gun locker with a trigger lock and the ammo locked up separately, they can, and are perhaps obligated to confiscate it.

Its not a mandatory in Alberta, and I'm fairly sure it isnt mandatory in BC, Sask, or Manitoba either. Other provinces and territories I have no idea.
-
Couldnt all of this language BS have been solved decades ago if French was mandatory in school outside Quebec, and English was mandatory in Quebec, perhaps until high school? Wouldnt that make us a truly bilingual country?

Im all for that military spending, but for ships instead of blingin' aircraft. According to a lot of people on this forum, without corporate welfare the corporations will all go away. It would seem corporate welfare is actually corporate another-day-at-the-office. I hope somebody can offer a bulletproof answer to your question.
