http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/taibbi-on-amy-goodman-arrest-for-covering-dakota-pipeline-story-w444754 The whole point of fighting to be independent for your whole career, and building your own news network instead of working at someone else's existing, corporate-funded one, is so that you can cover something like the Dakota Pipeline story whenever you feel like it. So not only was Amy Goodman doing journalism when she was at those protests, the only kind of journalist who would even be there almost by definition would have to be one like Amy Goodman. That's not to say more commercial-minded outlets can't or don't cover pipeline controversies, or the misdeeds of powerful energy companies. They just tend not to, for some reason. ... But a prosecutor who arrests a reporter because he doesn't think she's "balanced" enough is basically telling future reporters what needs to be in their stories to avoid arrest. The trial of Amy Goodman will be an interesting and necessary court challenge of freedom of the press. I wonder if the lamestream press will even report on it.

I'm not sure it's a legal issue, but I think testing it in the courts is worthwhile ... to draw attention to the ignorance in continuing to use that name, mascot(?) and logo. At some point, the team may decide that the controversy is a distraction to their real purpose ... playing ball. That will be a good thing.

Germany bans internal combustion engines by 2030
jacee replied to jacee's topic in The Rest of the World
http://www.ctvnews.ca/autos/the-electric-car-revolution-is-coming-but-not-until-2025-1.3115644 I think hybrids currently make a lot of sense in Canada, electric around town and gas on the highway. I do think a huge change to electric is coming, in Germany and elsewhere. -
Wow! http://gizmodo.com/german-lawmakers-vote-to-ban-the-internal-combustion-en-1787574000 german-lawmakers-vote-to-ban-the-internal-combustion-engine by 2030 The modern internal combustion engine first came from Germany and now Germany wants to put a nail in its coffin. The Bundesrat has passed a resolution to ban the ICE beginning in 2030. ... “German regulations traditionally have shaped EU and UNECE regulations.” Greens party lawmaker Oliver Krischer told Spiegel, “If the Paris agreement to curb climate-warming emissions is to be taken seriously, no new combustion engine cars should be allowed on roads after 2030.” ... Creating a tougher tax burden could encourage manufacturers to push electric vehicles into production sooner, rather than later. Stunning ... We really are in a new era now. By bye fossil fuels!

Yup.But it's their job. They're just trolling, baiting, schilling for somebody. 😊

And by the agenda that brings him to troll discussion boards. Everybody's gotta earn a living, I guess. At this point, I think trolling mlw 'for the cause' is supporting several people's income. 😊 .

You are a stranger to the truth by choice, Argus. bias-against-picktons-victims-led-to-police-failures-indifference-inquiry/ Police made years of mistakes, inquiry into missing women finds ... There was an institutional, systemic bias against the women. They were poor, they were aboriginal, they were drug addicted and they were not taken seriously. .

Robert Picton, serial killer, got away with murder for years ... because ... "The attitude of both police and media was that this was not exactly a shocker ..." So they didn't investigate. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/opinion/editorials/the-bias-against-an-inuit-artist/article32175861/ Too many native deaths and disappearances were ignored and trivialized for too long in Canada because of a blame-the-victim prejudice. Biased police officers cant be trusted to do their work properly its as simple as that. If you choose to ignore the specifics of the case in front of you because youre blinded by irrelevant preconceptions, youre simply not qualified for the job of policing. I agree. Racially biased police officers are "Simply not qualified" .

white-nationalist-leader-every-alt-right-nazi-i-know-is-volunteering-for-the-trump-campaign/ Virtually every alt-right Nazi I know is volunteering for the Trump campaign, Andrew Anglin, editor of the white nationalist Daily Stormer website, told the Los Angeles Times. Infamous former Klan leader David Duke was similarly giddy about what Trumps campaign had done for his movement, and he told the LA Times that the fact that Donald Trumps doing so well, it proves that Im winning. Nazis love Trump. Trump loves Nazis. Isn't that just ducky. :/ .

I don't want any more like you who have such a hate on for 'immigrants'. We're all immigrants. Everybody has an opinion. Kellie Leitch's opinion isn't shared by many people, not even her own colleagues. conservative_leadership_candidate_accuses_kellie_leitch_of_running _uncanadian_campaign And that's because Leitch's idea is just plain stupid. .

The 'war on terror' is so complicated, the US 'forgets' who it's fighting against? Or ... not? ... WTF are they doing? https://www.rt.com/news/360656-us-isis-talks-proof/ US airstrikes on Syrian troops were intentional, lasted nearly 1 hour Assad to AP "The Syrian government puts all the responsibility for the aggression on the US, as the facts show that it was a deliberate attack, but not a mistake even if America says the opposite, Muallem said, adding that the bombing proves that the US and its allies are accomplices of Islamic State and other terror groups. .

They would be the extremist right wing who 'don't believe' in homosexuality, women's rights, etc. We already have such far right 'social conservatives' in Canada. If they can't pass the screening, should they be deported, and if so, where? Hint: I'm being facetious Argus. My point is that you can't screen out and refuse immigrants who hold views that are also held by right wing Canadians. This ridiculous idea from Kellie Leitch, a Conservative MP, has already been shot down by another Conservative MP who holds the very views that she wants to screen out. The whole ides is ridiculous, a non starter. .

no-deals-for-panama-papers-tax-cheats-canada-revenue-agency/ Ottawa is cracking down on a growing number of Canadians named in the Panama Papers, with the Canada Revenue Agency warning the 2,671 individuals or firms under review they should not expect a negotiated settlement. Tax cheats named in the Panama Papers have a window to apply for the Voluntary Disclosure Program to repay and avoid fines and criminal charges, up until the audit process starts. Then they no longer qualify. The CRA has already launched 85 detailed audits of taxpayers, acting on information that was contained in the massive leak of confidential information from Panamanian law firm Mossack Fonseca in the spring. The figure shows the number of cases under audit has nearly doubled since May, when the CRA said it was looking into 45 cases. The CRA has executed search warrants in a number of the 85 cases under audit over the summer, with more raids still in the works, agency officials have told The Globe and Mail. Seems to me they've had enough warning. Time to nail their asses. 😊

The reality sinks in: conservative_leadership_candidate_says_conservatives_could_fail _anti_canadian_values_test Leitch herself has suggested she would ban immigrants who hold beliefs displaying "intolerance towards other religions, cultures and sexual orientations." And while most people have taken this as a dog whistle aimed at Muslims, Leitch recently admitted she's not closing the door on a ban on Catholics either. But as the Canadian Press reports, all this talk of tolerance for "sexual orientations" may be a tad too cosmopolitan for Trost's tastes: "But another threat to social conservatives, Trost suggested, could come from ideas like the one proposed by Leitch, who has defined Canadian values as including tolerance for all sexual orientations. 'If Canadian values all of a sudden become a screen for liberal values, that is going to keep out a lot of Canadians,' he said. Hmmm ... I don't have a problem with screening out anti-gay conservative Canadians. But where do we deport them to?

Yes, so the pipelines can't just bypass the Canadian resistance by going through the northern states. You think Trudeau can just "tell them"? Not very realistic pik. He has no legal right to do that. They do have a legal right to a say in developments (eg, pipelines) that affect Aboriginal rights on their traditional land. .

indigenous-tar-sands-treaty-could-be-trudeaus-worst-nightmare At simultaneous press conferences in Montreal and Vancouver earlier today, over 50 First Nations signed onto a new treaty alliance to stop the expansion of Albertas tar sands. It amounts to a mutual defence pact call it NATO for pipelines with signatories promising to mobilize their communities against any pipeline development that allows the tar sands to be expanded, even those thousands of kilometres away from their territory. More ... http://www.nationalobserver.com/2016/09/22/news/first-nations-across-north-america-sign-treaty-alliance-against-oilsands Interesting development, a treaty alliance among 50 Indigenous Nations to use their legal Aboriginal rights to prevent tar sands expansion and distribution/export of product. We are certainly seeing a resurgence of Indigenous influence following two decades of Supreme Court decisions upholding the Crown's duty to consult and to accommodate Aboriginal rights. It appears that CAPP recognizes their legitimate influence too. .

Police entrapment: Nuttall and Korody freed

No PIK. They were too dense, delusional and scattered to figure out how to do anything dangerous. The police had to do their thinking for them. Not prime material for ISIS recruiting. . -
