Musharraf’s tough talking in doubt Can he? I have my doubts. Musharraf has had ample time to sort these madrassahs and he hasn't done so. Why? Perhaps he just can't do it with so little political support. But if we are even going to sort out this terrorism situation we are somehow going to have to begin facing all these hard choices in all of our respective countries. Time to act is now.

Here you have it folks. Canada's most right-wing daily newspaper has on their front page this morning how the US invasion of Iraq is breeding suicide bombers. So I think we can all stop arguing about whether or not it is so and begin to start trying to find solutions to this mess, this can of worms that has been opened by the US invasion. Iraq breeding suicide killers Thank you Mr Bush.

Police issue CCTV images of bomb suspects I wonder if that New York t-shirt is supposed to be a subliminal message. Actually it is not so subliminal. It must be getting quite stressful taking the tube. First the bombs on July 7, the attempted attack yesterday, and a shooting and who knows what else today. I wonder how many people are choosing a different form of transportation these days.

The police have finally arrested someone in London which is good. I am glad that they have a live person who hopefully will be able to give them some details. Another thing is that the British system of justice is very fast compared to the Canadian system. They will have him in court lickity-split. British Police Arrest a Suspect in Thursday's Blasts

Police (bobbies?) shot and killed someone today in the tube. I wonder what the connection this man has with what happened yesterday. Police gun down London bombs suspect on train

Who will replace PM Martin as Liberal leader?
mirror replied to mirror's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I think this is a good fit. It has been obvious for some time now, including the time when when he was premier of Ontario, that Rae is more of a Liberal than a NDPer. It might be a bit hard for some liberals to swallow but they are pragmatists. Liberal insiders look to Bob Rae as possible successor to Martin -
Is the author of this article suggesting that Rove might be executed? I don't believe in capital punishment by-the-way: Deadly repercussions

Yup, we are all going to lose a lot of our freedoms in the name of security. I suppose that is OK as long as you don't have something to hide, but the thought of the police having too much power is disconcerning to say the least. This thing is starting to really escalate out of control. I just wish cooler heads would prevail. Blair calls for calm but Britain may never be the same again

Echoes and Theories, but No Solid Links in London Bombings This is quite a serious mess to try and sort out for the police. No suspects aprehended so far contrary to other reports. Authorities Probe Pakistani Linked To Plot in Oregon This is getting a little too close for comfort.

You know Bush's liberation of Iraq reminds me SO MUCH of Mulroney's support to boycott South African goods. The main reason Mulroney agreed to support the boycott is that the South African gold mining businesses would be damaged. Guess who benefitted from those mines being boycotted? Well Peter Monk of Barrick Gold of course. And just guess who is on, and who has been on for a long time, Barrick's Board of Directors.? You gessed it, good ole Brian Mulroney of course. Apartheid my ass!

Canada needs to rebuild its railway system
mirror replied to mirror's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Tell that to the 18 people who died this past week due to the heat wave. Actually you will have to tell their families because they are DEAD. Oh, btw, that doesn't include the illegal immigrants deaths. Good ole USA! -

London bombings fail to damage Blair ... yet What kinds of questions do today's repeat attack in London bring to mind for you? This article mentions a few. I have observed from afar the strife in the Middle East. Someone asked this in an article I read somewhere today: "Are we now to become like a giant Israel, and start having to act like the Isreali people, worried all the time about violence?" I wonder and what are the alternatives to life like that? I read some tube drivers don't want to go back to work. Would you take the tube in London now if you had alternative transportation?

It Doesn’t Take A Political Genius To Fix A Medica

Because we have the best system in the world and we don't want to go slumming with the US, and other countries who don't have as good a system as we have. Why do you think Toyota recently located their plant here? -

Well I know a little bit of the history of the city like when the Spadina Expressway got stopped, etc., and I have seen the traffic, but we cannot continue like this polluting our environment with the fumes of so many single occupancy vehicles. We have to move back to things like railways, and move bigtime into public transportation systems, once we have dealt with suicide bombers, etc., otherwise we will not continue to exist. -

Yes I noticed this thread a while ago but when I tried to access the first poster's pics I couldn't. Maybe that is just as well, seeing the comments I have heard about them. -
All this complaining about our federal government. And who has been in power all this time. Of course it those good old right wing corporate parties, the Liberals and the Conservatives. I'm going to give the New Democrats my vote this time, as they certainly can't do any worse, and they may do a lot better.

err I agree. We have let the automobile industry dictate our modes of transportation for too long. That is the problem I have with these corporate lobbyists who quietly contact our governments and lobby for their interests, which are often completely at odds with what is best for our society, and usually out of sight. Our There is the conflict of interest with a corporate controlled press. Our media rarely report on the details when the real decisions are being made in the backrooms of the PMO's office, etc. -
Today where do you get your news from?
mirror replied to mirror's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I know that most of our media is corporate owned to sell advertising to corporations so it is only natrural that private media is going to be biased to the right. I agree that the Toronto Star has some good columnists. I used to be a big fan of the CBC TV The National but quite frankly they are too biased in favour of one political party in Canada which I find a bit unsettling. I'm with eureka though in that I get a some of my news from discussion boards such as this. Here are some ballpark figures where I get my news from: Radio: 30% - CBC Radio One TV: 5% - City TV/ CBC/Global/CTV Newspapers: 25% - Online - Toronto Star, New York Times, The Guardian, Le Devoir, Globe and Mail, Scotsman, The Tyee, FT, sometimes an Israeli newspaper. Columnists: 5% - Online - Gwynne Dyer, etc. Discussion Groups: 30% - Online Discussions (Face to face with people): 5% - Online If there is a breaking news story I usually go to Google and do a search. The one problem with Google's searches though is that sometimes they will have 100s of hits on the same story, especially if the AP in the US is running it, so it is time consuming to have to search through page after page, to finally get another slant on the issue. -

Good points. The fundamental problem with the health care system is that the incentives are designed to keep you sick, hooked on the system with drugs, tests, etc. That's the problem when we allow the corporate (read: pharmaceutical industry) community to take over. Somehow we need to reverse the situation and the major health care focus should be on preventing illness and the use of drugs. Perhaps doctors should be paid based on how well their patients are, instead of the number of sick patients they have or see. Put the nurses in charge and we would see a drastically different and healthier medical system. Why do you think we have all this pressure on our government system? It is coming primarily from the rich doctors, the people who run the system. Like cigarettes, OUTLAW FAT PEOPLE, I say! -
Why worry about it. Democracies are only as good as how they treat their minorities. Societial norms currently dictate that women are allowed their own fitness clubs. What's the big deal? Do you want to join? Some women for whatever reason want privacy from men. Are you worried that it is a lesbian hangout? I mean what is it? Maybe if men were more appropriate women would not have to resort to these measures. There are all sorts of placed women are excluded from, and have been excluded from. Isn't there some prestigious golf club that still doesn't allow women? I mean what is that all about, eh!

Well there you have it folks. Livingstone by-the-way is not some raving religious nut of a suicide bomber, he is the mayor of London. The West of couse contribulted to these suicide bombings. So when the people in the US ask themselves why they were attacked one of the things they can do is look in the miror. Americans need to ask themselves why they reelected Bush for a second term. What a huge mistake that was. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> let me understand this, he's the mayor of london so somehow he's an expert on the subject? The United States equipped these guys in another form to resist the invasion of the USSR into Afghanistan. Taking that training and information and killing innocent civilians is NOT what the United States had them do. Blaming the United States for suicide bombers because they gave them money, training and funding some 25 years ago is akin to blaming someone's driving instructor when that student kills someone drinking and driving. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> GostHacked Thanks for your post. I know it can be a bit confusing however that above quote you attributed to me was actually posted by cybercoma as you can see above or by checking back through yesterday's postings.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}> OK I'll buy that. But how can a private enterprise decide it is going to protect rights or other national values by excluding men from a fitness club? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> National values - see above. Unlike men some women don't go to a fitness club looking for sex!

Suicide bombings becoming key terrorist tool against West Yes Argus you are a warmonger. you may not even realize it, but you are to support the US occupation of Iraq. And it is people like you who are most dangerous because you support someone like Bush whose policies of occupying Iraq are contributing to a huge escalation of suicide bombers.
