  1. Big scumbag. Assumption: "Something taken for granted or accepted as true without proof" So no, I have not produced facts to refute your assumptions. I'm not doing your homework for you.
  2. There's lots of fringe companies around. I had some whacko in my business the other day wanting me to retail this stuff to my clients. http://www.med-marijuana.com/ Your assumptions in your post are not your usual ramblings. Don't forget, when you assume something, it's usually wrong.
  3. I agree. However, power is power and Ontario won't give it up willingly. Why should they? We need to see what is more powerful, people or money and resources. We just need to cut them off for a while and if they don't come to the table to talk, screw them, we'll separate then. At least we can say we tried. Separation is a last last resort and even then I'm not sure it's good.
  4. BD, BD, BD.....you've been sampling. You're saying that the Canadian government happily collected taxes from a person that was breaking laws in the USA with full knowledge of his activities? That's a stretch. We've all heard the old laws of yesterday about not letting your horse crap on main street and such. I don't think the dope law is there yet, but maybe in 50 years it will be and we'll all laugh about it. This Emery fellow should be happy he didn't get caught with seeds in his suitcase flying out of Thailand.
  5. Ok, the pig farmer is innocent. Everyone is innocent until proven guilty. Marten Gingras was deemed safe enough for a day trip to West Edmonton Mall when he escaped and immediately killed someone else too. All you liberal people please hand over your addresses to the corrections office so they can set up halfway houses and parolle stations in your neighborhood. You obviously feel no danger from these people. Maybe you can hold their hands while they're waiting for the bus to go to work too. Karla needs somewhere to live. Perhaps you have a basement suite you can rent her. Ok, I'm being beligerant a bit, but give your head a shake. Some of these killers are unredeemable and will never have anything productive to give society. These are the death penalty cases.
  6. You know, I've heard this argument before and it doesn't wash with me. When someone commits a capital crime with rock solid proof of guilt, what's the issue? Why is the pig farmer from BC still around? Rehab? Clifford Olson, Harvy Andres, Paul Bernardo, all upstanding citizens that can be rehabbed and brought to some sort of productive lifestyle living next door to you. I know there's murders that happen that don't warrant a death penalty. I know there's innocent people statistically put in jail. Harvy Andres was shot 8 times by police in saskatoon in a shootout I think before being subdued. He's innocent and merely misunderstood of course and should be rehabilitated. There is a use for the death penalty.
  7. THAT'S NOT WHAT I SAID!!!! Canada is a softie state when it comes to punishing people for crimes. Some kid who isn't finished developing his priorities in life commits a murder and realizes down deep that it's an option of solving disputes. Some shrink expert works him over for a few years and out he goes, all better!! I don't think so. Why does Canada fail to protect it's citizens time after time against rejects like this?
  8. The more I think about this issue, the more I'm drawn to the option of simply going on 'strike' as a province, if that's an option at all. Why not just discontinue participation in tax and other money submission to Ottawa to bring about a negotiation and a possible power shuffle. Maybe everything will remain the same, maybe not. Separation is not an option because there's no reason to.
  9. Yeah ok, go with that. Don't get caught. Good moralistic habits to teach your kids. That helps. I don't disagree with anything you say except you fail to face the facts. Until the law is changed, it's the law. This dude didn't stay in his home with his dope and has to face consequences.
  10. http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/stor...?hub=TopStories What the hell is going on? A kid kills someone, get a couple years and then allowed to merely walk away from a halfway house? Our system sucks in Canada. In my opinion if a minor commits a capital gross offence and is guilty beyond doubt, recycle him. Death penalty, goodbye. I honestly can't see rehabilitating a teenager who has resorted to killing as an option. It's like a dog who has tasted blood, the option will always be there and you can never trust them again. It'a like that Mandin kid who shot his whole family a few years back in Valleyview I think. He'll never be useful again. Bring back the death penalty.
  11. Who am I to say? It's not my cup of tea. I started off thinking no way then asked myself, "what's worse, an orphanage or foster home, or a fag house where the queers at least love the kid?" It's a twisted concept, but somehow not a black and white answer. There's a lot of useless people out there that aren't gay with no morals who marry and divorce at the drop of a hat, uneducated etc. The kids are the ones who suffer through all that crap. If a couple queers want to raise a kid and live their life honestly and with as much integrity as possible, I can live with that. I'm just not sure I'd send my kids over for a sleepover though. One step at a time.
  12. Thanks everybody. I think there will always be poor people and rich people. There will always be smart people who excel in life and others who aren't and don't. That's not to say everyone doesn't have a niche where they are happy. The thing that made the most sense to me is that the economy is a sum of actions by everyone in it. I find it very interesting how a government lives and dies with how the economy does when they sometimes merely go for the ride with it. Peter Lougheed could do no wrong and Don Getty could do no right for instance. Good stuff.
  13. So what you are saying is that growth is vital to the economy to make a flawed system work? So economic growth is not a conscious thing. It's a spontaneous thing spurred on by inventive people who want growth. Somewhat of a circular logic there. Wealth is created both tangible and intangible you say. We all strive to have a better life than our parents did. I guess that is the impetus for it. What neither of you have convinced me of is the original question of why. Why is growth good for the economy? Is there an end game? Is the economy ever good enough or are we in a growth race with our neighbors that will ultimately consume all resources and leave us in a down spiral. Or does the economy merely grow in order to survive the natural checks and balances that offset it? Hmmmm.....
  14. Thanks. The whole discussion board thing seems to be geared for survival of the 'knowitall' and to actually ask a question would normally be seen as weakness and could bring an onslaught of sharks ready for the kill. I'd be the first one to admit I don't know something if it brings on useful discussion. Thanks again. I appreciate that. I've been a tradesman for 25 years and now a successful business man for the last 10. With the time to finally study things I never had time for before, I'm playing catch up. So what actually causes a dollar such as the Ameribuck to devalue when a war is proceeding? Is it simply because so much currency is expended abroad?
  15. I have a question please. This may sound simple to some of you but here goes. Why does an economy have to grow to be healthy? What's wrong with a maintenance economy with status quo? To me, if an economy grows, so does population, resource usage, etc. If an economy keeps growing, doesn't that signify some race to destruction when the resources run out or there's too many people to be contained in our borders, perpetuating war etc? Doesn't there have to be checks and balances or does the free enterprise system parallel nature in survival of the fittest entrepeneurs? Is our economy consciously maintained by government at all or simply free for all business and a result of ebbs and flows of fortune? Try not to massacre me too much on this. I'm asking because I truly don't understand the whole picture. It's obviously not an area of expertise for me.
  16. Yes. It was just a ponderance of the fact that so few people can make such a big stink and really still be insigificant. ie: voting in a federal election
  17. Geology's immutable. Geography's immutable. People, on the other hand, are tremendously adaptable. Complaining that wealth generated by the resource sector is an inequality is about as sensible as complaining about the location of our auto-manufacturing industry or civil service jobs. Canadians have the fundamental right to move and work anywhere in this country. -k <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Which is why I quipped at one point that theoretically 3 million people could move to Alberta from Ontario and vote any separation movement under the table.
  18. BANG!! That's the sound of hitting the nail right squarely on the head. Agreed from this redneck 100 percent.
  19. Whoa buddy! This is emotional drivel. Back up your statements before you slam the cops like this. I'll ignore this post if you want because it's more like coffeehouse slander than a productive post. Otherwise, what was the guys mental state and did he resist arrest or was merely beaten to death as you say over a 'silly' subduction? How long have the cops been posted there and how are they corrupt? Why are they still on duty if there is documented corruption? The cop you named, what other incidents has he been involved in? Your friend described an incident with very colorful language. You weren't there but take everything he said as factual enough to report here. Seagulls on a hot dog? Really. Now you are sure many small towns are victims of such cops. Cops that you allege did certain things that you report second hand, allegedly corrupt with no facts to back it up. Are you sure you don't want to maybe edit that post?
  20. The guy had a gun according to the article. To me, if the cop said put it down and the guy didn't, that's enough to take him down in my eyes. It's a deadly weapon and nobody has the right to go waving that at anybody let alone the police. Leave it to the investigators to decide if the shooting was justified or not. Until then, I give the cop the benefit of the doubt.
  21. Per capita, or total? Where are your numbers derived from? Your comment seems to contradict itself. On one hand you can't calculate Albertas portion and on the other Ontario pays more. Please clarify.
  22. Agreed, but get real. The mainstream(so to speak) separatists all bitch and whine about what's wrong instead of focusing on a productive positive direction for the west. I am on the fence on the issue. When and if we ever identify a leader capable of leading the west, I'll listen. If we ever get a competent leader in Ottawa, that would be the preference. I love Canada and being Canadian. Being an Albertan is a pride as well and I was born here. It will take a lot more than rhetoric to get me to actually cut and run from the rest of Canada. I think it is more possible that from northern Ontario west could separate as one country. The french could conceivably take over the east. Alberta separation alone is not going to happen imo. A groundswell of support for mutual separation with Quebec is more likely.
  23. Well this may come as a surprise to some of you, but I think it's silliness to separate. After reading much about the separation movements, it looks like more of the same with the power struggles and beaurocracies. What this country really needs is a strong leader who can bring ALL of Canada together. If the french want out, give them everything north of the river so we can keep in touch with the maritimes. The rest of the country would stick together like glue if we got rid of them. Better yet, send a trainload of Indians another of whiskey and another of guns to Quebec and let them figure it out. We'll send someone out in a couple of weeks to shoot the last one standing. Seriously, who in their right or left brain would sacrifice the easy lifestyle most of us enjoy merely to gain political clout. I haven't heard one separatist come up with a plan where my lifestyle will get better with separation, only that the 'government' will be structured better blah blah blah. After travelling to Cape Breton last year and talking to people across the country, I realized there is NO difference in the day to day lifestyle of any of us. Even the french dude in Quebec City did his best to help us get directions when there was an absolute language barrier. So, fellow Albertans, why separate? I'm not convinced. Give me good reasons. Quantitative reasons. Not just political ramblings. It makes no sense. What makes more sense is to then amalgamate all of North America into a single nation.
  24. If you won't laugh with me, then you'll have to laugh at yourself all by yourself.
  25. Text is so dry. I wish there was a way to convey inflection. We could have laughed together over that one.
