Albertans accused of red-neck & anti-gay

Check the context of the thread. It's impossible to debate an issue without exploring different sides. If you are scared you won't like the answers, don't ask the questions. And to just weigh in on the subject to personally attack members rather than give us a valid opinion on the thread isn't in the keeping of the rules of this board as I understand them. Perhaps you can address the thread? -
Albertans accused of red-neck & anti-gay

If everyone married the same sex, humans would go extinct in one generation. Maybe Albertans are the last sensible people in Canada.... -
Whew...I didn't know we were getting evaluated. Can I start over??

Well, I for one support our government. Take it for what it is. -
Let's see... O'Reilly or Lou Dobbs???? Dobbs is smarter, but O'Reilly is more fun to watch.

IMT. You weren't born in Alberta were you? I'm thinking Ontario, or Quebec? Go to school there for a while perhaps? My point was that when a single group of people start imposing their beliefs and values on society, and become powerful enough to legislate it, things can change dramatically. -
Albertans accused of red-neck & anti-gay

Hehe. Good thing we can laugh together about it. If life was REALLY tough we couldn't waste time pretending to be important here. Good comebacks!! Except for this one.... Being a Nazi was ok at one time. I'm sure that people couldn't understand how that was bad either. Rough comparison, I concede, but the outcome was rougher. Our society works for the most part and by some of our standards isn't really all that broken. Why does it need fixed? Let's get on to more important things, like separation and a western republic!! -
Albertans accused of red-neck & anti-gay

I don't swap wives. That was a 'what if'. I'm happily married and have been for 23 years. I am in a same sex marriage myself, to the same woman. Same sex for 23 years. I don't miss Trudeau. I guess we differ in a few ways. I'm going to miss Ralph though. I was trying to be a fairly liberal redneck by saying the civil union thing because I really couldn't care a less what people want to do as long as it doesn't interfere with my lifestyle. Looks like queer marriage is here to stay anyway so whatever. It's not like we're going to start an insurgency or anything to stop it. Things always change I guess. That's why we eventually die, so we don't have to give a rat's a** about it in the end. It's hard to talk intellectually when the red neck starts up. -

crazymf replied to mirror's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
I am. What's your point? I want a referendum RIGHT NOW on gay marriages!! I want another one on gun laws!! And I'm not anti-gay. I am pro straight, but you don't see us out there having straight pride parades. I don't personally care where you stick your pecker, but don't try and normalize it. Civil unions with spousal rights, fine, but don't call it marriage equal to a man and a woman. You can't swap wives with a queer couple, it just doesn't work. eeewww ps. I am not minority here, pal. -

Canada needs to rebuild its railway system
crazymf replied to mirror's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Power alternatives are but a smidgen of the uses for petroleum. I read an article a while back in either Time or Alberta Report, can't remember which, and oil is used somehow either directly or indirectly in practically everything we know and do. They even had it down to how many barrels it takes to produce 1 beef steer. I'm hoping the transition is gradual enough to switch over to alternatives in a fairly painless way. On a side note, I had an oil company executive at my business a few years back and during the course of conversation I asked him what the plan was when oil runs out. He gave me a blank stare. The oil companies have no plan for when the oil runs short. He does not have to worry about it because it will last his lifetime and longer!! That was comforting..... -
Canada needs to rebuild its railway system
crazymf replied to mirror's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
It's just staggering to think of all the fuel burned in one day in North America. Whether it's truck or rail, the whole system is dependent on oil. Our whole lifestyle is 100% dependent on oil. It's going to be a rough go when the known oil reserves start to decline. -

It's about time. I'm not opposed to that at all. One large country, common currency. Better for most, worse for some. I believe it's a step ahead. -
Should Saddam Hussein Have A Criminal Trial?
crazymf replied to BHS's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Saddam has to have a trial to demonstrate the political power of democracy in action in Iraq. The outcome is obviously guilty, but the sentence is not a forgone conclusion. They may give him life imprisonment to prevent him from becoming a martyr. The trial will be publicized beyond belief but if he is executed, it will be in secrecy and without ceremony. And then there's whether he's worth more alive than dead to provide information to the USA. -
Should Harper be replaced?
crazymf replied to Big Blue Machine's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I will have to defer my statement until I become up to speed on issues. Frankly I have ignored Canadian politics most of my life and have only recently taken an interest. I'll get back to you. However, anybody is better than Paul Martin and I would like a chance to actually vote in the federal election before it's over for once... -
Funny stuff, I gotta use that somewhere, can I have it??

Insurance companies are different than general health care though. They are businesses that are there to make money off you and if they can't, they'll change their rules until they can. I compare our public health care system to government where the bottom line is not profit, but service to the citizens. One pet insurance company isses a policy of $12k worth of coverage for the life of your pet. Perhaps our health care system could put a dollar value on that for people. Maybe they already do when considering funding for it. Mr. Jones has used all his $12k worth of coverage, but Mrs. Jones has not. She can voluntarily let Mr. Jones use her remaining coverage. ?????/

Guys like that sometimes go unnoticed. I've never heard of him before, but it sounds like he has enabled a few impoverished nations with his agricultural techniques.

I hope you are right on the first part. Second part made me spit my coffee, HAHAHA!!! Good one!! I especially like the part about the failed nukes, except I wouldn't think China would get caught be that. USSR maybe, China no. You forgot the part where they send troops over here and we haven't got enough bullets to kill them all and they win.....?? WHOOPS!! No offence to any Chinese members. Talking strictly hypothetical here.

So perhaps someone who drives a car shouldn't get free treatment for injuries due to an accident? There's no clear cut line there so I'm not sure we can endorse a policy of self abuse waivers. But, a smoker could buy health insurance at inflated premiums to cover his own health care. That would lead to a general trend toward a system just like the USA. Tricky subject....hmmm.
