  1. If you want a forum with a more robust respect for freedom of speech, and less one-sided moderation you should google canadiancontent forums. The conversation can be more rambunctious, though.
  2. He commited to electoral reform, not pr. Electoral reform could mean second choice voting. That would almost certainly benefit the Liberals and make them the perpetual top party.
  3. You people are delusional if you think Trudeau, with a taste of majority government under his belt, will put anything in place which will make it less likely for that to happen again. He might switch to second choice voting if studies show that would benefit the Liberals, but that's it.
  4. The welfare provinces need to be bought with promises of more free money. That's all they care about, really. Harper didn't offer them anything new, and Trudeau had a big bag of cash on his back when he came calling.
  5. I think Tom Flanagan had the right take on it. The Tories didn't offer anything unique, anything new, anything to entice people to vote for them. They offered no change after almost ten years, nothing to get excited about. Experience suggests that a conservative party cannot successfully run only on a theme of balanced budgets and fiscal responsibility, except perhaps when government spending has gotten completely out of hand. In normal times – and this was a very normal time – a conservative party has to show how its free-market, fiscally responsible policies will make ordinary people better off – and that means better off in the next four years, not in the past. The Conservative party of 2015 seemed to have forgotten the lesson of 2006. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/globe-debate/conservatives-had-the-money-but-forgot-the-message/article26883457/
  6. The last thing the Tories need to do is become liberal light again, a poor copy of the Liberals, standing for nothing. The conservatives didn't get booted out of office because of what the party did, but how it, under Harper's direction, did it. Politics is a game, and Harper refused to play it by the rules. You need to let the opposition make mouth noises over bills if they want. You need to play the schmooze game with the media. And you can't be so hyper partisan about everything. You also can't make the party all about one man unless that one man is an awfully attractive and charistmatic one. Harper's government wasn't very conservative at all, in fact. It was solidly centrist. But they got no credit from the frenzied mob of the left.
  7. Those on the left live to hate. An extremist Muslim seeing a cartoon of Mohamad has nothing on a progressive who sees someone with a different opinion. The only difference is the progressive doesn't believe in God and isn't about to off himself. Harper was hated, loathed and despised before he was even elected as prime Minister. And everything he did thereafter was read through the most paranoid, frenzied eyes to see the supposed underlying evil in it. No one in this country is as angrily intolerant as progressives. Any conservative will be hated by the left no matter what he does or says, simply for being conservative. If he holds money back from public service unions or the CBC or causes the progressives like he's satan himself.
  8. No surprise the welfare provinces all jumped eagerly into Trudeau's embrace. More pogey for Atlantic Canada.

If those redneck hillbillies are voting liberal so they can get easier Ei benefits, yes, but that's not what you meant

No, they vote CPC to get farm and oil subsidies... and to outlaw abortions... deny gay rights... and pack around guns...

I wasn't aware Quebec, Ontario, and BC were welfare provinces.

  9. Yeah, you just selected Jews and Catholics for no reason, eh, and lumped them in with the Fraser Institute? Suuuure.
  10. The NDP were hoist on their own strategic voting petard. They were so clear about the absolute need to get rid of Harper above all things that as soon as it looked like Trudeau might have a better chance tons of previous NDP supporters jumped ship. When you make it clear that hatred of the guy in charge should be the most important factor in who you vote for, and do everything you can to create that hate, well, you better expect it to turn on you.
  11. Since when did any of those 'francophone rights' listed guarantee that all senior positions in government could only be held by those who can speak French?
  12. Wow. You want CRA to target those you hate, like Jews, Catholics and conservative research groups? The targeting of 'charity' groups which get involved in politics beyond 10% of their funding, which is contrary to the rules which govern their charitable status, is not politically motivated, despite what the paranoid freaks of the far left have suggested. There's never been any evidence a charity was cut off improperly. I know of no Jewish or Catholic charity which is heavily involved in politics, but if you do feel free to report them.
  13. And the French make up about 20% of the population now, yet a hugely disproportionate amount of federal jobs (and power) go to them given most bilinguals are French. Few of Canada's prime ministers have been bilingual, aside from those who are from Quebec .Diefenbaker was not nor was Pearson.
  14. Speaking of French. To be prime minister of Canada you have to know French. To be governor general of Canada you have to know French. To be chief justice of the Supreme Court you have to know French (and debate rages about the other eight). To be head of the Bank of Canada, the Canadian armed forces, the CRTC, or the CBC you have to know French. In 2012 Parliament voted unanimously in favour of making it mandatory for the "auditor-general, the chief electoral officer and a number of commissioners, including those for privacy, information and ethics" to know French. Above a certain rank, most federal bureaucrats (regardless of what province they work in) invariably hit a promotional glass ceiling unless they know French. This is an awful lot of power to concentrate in just 17 per cent of the population. If you heard of some third world dump where a linguistic minority of less than 20 per cent held a permanent, legally-protected monopoly on all of the country's top jobs, you'd probably think it wasn't much of a democracy. You'd be right. Discriminatory, arbitrary barriers to full civic participation remain a blight no matter where they're practiced, and we undermine any pretence of being a truly egalitarian nation when we seek to normalize or rationalize them. Yet a lot of Canadians seem distressingly eager to do so. http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/jj-mccullough/bilingual-elite-canada_b_4977174.html
  15. Yes. I feel they are a collection of murders and rapists and you feel they are freedom fighters. If you go over there to visit them and show them how strongly you defend them on line maybe they will offer you a little slave girl to own. I've seen and read stories of the hell that is life under ISIS in those communities, even for suunis, and your question is obscene. It is like asking if Pol Pot liberated people from tyranny. Easily, if they're the ones with the guns and tanks. That is more than the Toronto police have, and the police can't shoot you on sight and sell your children as sex slaves if you act up, nor do they have tanks. You have been spending too much time on extremist Islamist web sites. I hope CSIS is watching you. You are a disgusting and immoral person to pretend the vicious brutality, genocide, and slave trading of ISIS is simply the same as everyone elses. Do other groups burn prisoners alive in cages? Do they they buy and sell 11 year old girls as sex slaves?
  16. That's defeatist nonsense. Of course you can't kill all the fanatics. Islam lends itself to fanaticism. If you chop down a tree it doesn't mean seeds won't sprout. But it does mean the tree is dead and it will be many years before the seeds become a problem. It would take very little military effort to go in and destroy the bulk of ISIS assets and fighters and leave the local ME governments, however incompetent, to root out and deal with the survivors. And the survivors would not have the same appeal to the brainless idiots around the Muslim world as a 'caliphate' which holds vast tracts of territory and can offer them young girls for sex slaves. You think they'd leave us alone then? I certainly do not. Such an ideology is insatiable, and the more it succeeds the more it wants. You know, back a couple of centuries ago, the Barbary pirates took more than a million and a half Europeans, mostly women, as slaves between the 16th and 19th century, only stopping when the British navy burned out cities and ports all along the north African coast. Don't think such a thing wouldn't happen again for the mentality that women are sexual animals has not changed with these people.
  17. Except you. Are you a supporter of ISIS? You compare people outraged over the brutality, genocide and mass murder with the Nazis? The only purpose you could have for doing so is to defend ISIS because you share their views. Horse shit. There are millions and tens of millions of sympathizers for ISIS throughout the Muslim world. And millions and tens of millions more sympathizers of Al Quaeda. An Al Jazeera poll found 81% of those who responded support ISIS. More to the point you have extremely violently anti-female cultural values in place throughout the Muslim world which support domestic abuse, child marriage, female genital mutilation, and honor killing. Christ, women aren't even allowed to drive in Saudi Arabia, and girls were forced back into a burning school because they didn't have their faces covered! Girls were machineguned in Algeria for not wearing veils, and are beaten by religious police in Iran if they show any hair or have makeup! Women can't walk alone on the street in Egypt, even in burkas, without being groped, harassed, and sometimes raped by baying crowds of young men! Hate and violence towards women is an epidemic throughout the Muslim world, aided and abetted by their 'friends' in the West like you. ISIS is not an isolated thing in their rape and murder. It grows from the culture throughout the middle east that women are sub human possessions of men to be done with whatever a strong man wants.
  18. Any concerted effort by any reasonably decent military force will crush ISIS in a very short time. One armored division would do it, if it was American, British, French or Russian. You won't get all the scattered remnants hiding out in basements but what's left will not be able to take over towns and cities.
  19. This is the stupidest post ever made in the history of the world. What planet are you on? Are you under medication? Does the Roman Catholic Church engage in slave trading and condone raping unbelievers? Does it engage in genocide and mass murder? It's amazing how far you ignorant, feeble, wishy washy, hand wringing liberals will go to excuse the outrages and barbarity of the Muslim world. Do you have no moral or ethical values at all?? You disgust me!
  20. Don't be absurd. ISIS doesn't hate. They have a religious belief which frees them of any moral or ethical standards or values. Everything they do is in Gods name, so everything they do is good. And they're holy men, with disdain and contempt for unbelievers. They have as much concern for the lives of others as you do about ants you might step on on your sidewalk They are amoral people indulging their enjoyment of violence. They take lazy, self indulgent, stupid, narcissistic young people who have no plans or ideas for their future and persuade them to come there where they will be free to rape little girls and shoot people, you mean. And no, it's absolutely nothing even remotely in the same universe as my post. They are rabid animals and you don't tolerate rabid animals, you exterminate them. What would that be? Make excuses for them and their violent, murderous, contemptible behaviour so we don't have to do anything? What we need to do is go over there and kill them. ALL of them.
  21. I needed to comment on this which is in a thread which has been locked. Maybe I have more imagination than liberals do. Maybe I have more empathy than liberals do. Maybe I'm just not as single minded in devotion to my great leader as liberals are. But this outrages me. This infuriates me. This makes me raging mad, and also very, very sad. Kayla Meuller was a poor, silly, naive girl in her twenties, a human rights activist and humanitarian. She was captured by ISIS, repeatedly raped and beaten over a period of months, and finally murdered. I imagine this girl praying for rescue, or that she'd be released, fantasizing about it in her dark cell for months, thinking of what she'd do when she got home. But there was no rescue and no release. She died alone and frightened at the hands of vicious animals who thought their religion gave them the freedom to do as they wanted to anyone else. I want those involved to die horribly, over a period of time. I'm sure the Americans have been searching for the leader of ISIS and they will get him eventually. Unfortunately, his death will be too quick. I want everyone involved in this filthy excuse for a movement to die and everyone who expresses any sympathy for them. They aren't human and should be wiped from the face of the earth. As for any 'canadians' who express sympathy for ISIS, we should fly them over there and drop them out of the plane without a parachute. And yes, I'm entirely serious. When I hear the sniveling and bleating of the likes of Trudeau, and his brainless followers here complaining about using the word barbaric to describe the elements of the Islamic world who subscribe to filthy practices like genital mutilation, honor killing, child "marriage", and all the vicious, brutal, thuggish aspects of female hatred which permeates the Muslim religion I feel like spitting. Why would anyone care about respecting those with such hatred for women? What kind of a person is he that he is more concerned with not being seen as showing disrespect for their 'culture' than with how brutally murderous that culture is towards women? I want the whole airforce to go over and bomb the hell out of all of them. But instead Trudeau and that sanctimonious Mulcair insist we do nothing at all except bring more Muslims with their female hating religion to Canada. They're both gutless, sniveling moral cowards more interested in getting the votes of misogynist Muslims in Canada than with what happens to women in the middle east or in Canada. Neither of them is fit to clean my toilets. http://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-34205911
  22. And to the likes of you everyone who disagrees with you is a racist nationalist, isn't that right?
  23. Of course that's how it works! That's how it's working now! If the first 'boat people' who landed in Greece had all been shot there would have been no more coming, and in fact, that would have saved thousands of lives of those who drowned at sea.
  24. In the news this morning, the German offer of asylum has 'resonated' in Iraq, even the parts of Iraq which are facing no threat from ISIS and a new wave of migrants are heading towards Turkey to make the trip to Europe...
