  1. Who is the best Prime Minister Canada never had? John Manley was on both Power Play and Power & Politics today. On both shows he discussed the peoblems with the Liberals and that they needed to change. He said the problems with the Liberals have been building for years but that there is still room for a fiscally responsible government that is socially progressive. Manley mentioned that in the election some Liberals fled to the Conservative because they have handeled the economy well and that they were afraid of the NDP. He also said that he thinks the Harper majority is better for business, he doesn't know if the government's policies will end up being good for businesses but a stable government should be. The most interesting thing he said on Power & Politics was that the government needs to look at allowing provinces to experiment with private health care. He said that there are forms of private health care that work and forms that don't, he discussed a form that he thinks is good but I didn't pay enough attention to understand it. I think Manley would have made an excellent Prime Minister and could overtake Robert Stanfield as the best Prime Minister Canada never had.
  2. There was a few I was unsure about, I wasn't sure who to put in Immigration. As well John Williamson is someone who I think needs to be added.
  3. I think there is enough normal people elected within the CPC that a majority government won't be too bad.
  4. There is something to be said for having a interim leader who has not and does not have leadership aspiration.
  5. So Senators supposedly want Rae while MPs don't.
  6. McGunity's 2003 win I think was the first time, or at least in decades and decades, that Ontario elected the same party that was in power in Ottawa.
  7. I don't understand this whole Quebec seperatism, why exactly do they want to be their own country?
  8. I completed my own list. I think I have the regions fairly well represented, I'm not really familar with a lot of the MPs so there are likely people who are better in some of the posts that I'm just not familiar with. I got rid of a few Minister who I don't think performed great and I was surprised to see just how many Minister either retired or were defeated. I would have liked to see more women in cabinet but I'm just not sure who, there is probably room for cuts to the cabinet as well. 9. Continue reading I was hoping there would be more to this article but the begining pretty much says it all.
  10. This seems like something Jack Layton would support, wonder will him and Olivia give up 70% of there salaries? Maybe they can allow homeless people to live in their new $2 million home?
  11. Newfoundland and Labrador's Senator George Baker has said he wants Dominic LeBlanc as leader.
  12. ^ He may have an aboriginal but he has nobody from Newfoundland and Labrador.
  13. Yes he will, I was just referring to Triple M's list.
  14. Too bad Newfoundland and Labrador didn't make that cabinet.
  15. He's more liked now then he was while he was leader.
  16. Alfred Apps has just said on Power & Politics that thanks to fundraising during the campaign and subsidies and what not that the Liberals will have more money now then they had going into the election. Which is good news for having a leadership election.
  17. I don't think they should pick their new permanent leader for another 2 years, they should have a year long leadership election campaign, but it's still interesting to discuss and see who others think would or could make a good leader.
  18. Easter is just thought of as a interim possibility.
  19. Wayne Easter's name is being brought up as a possibility acccording to this article by Jane Taber. He's not bilingual but the idea of someone from Atlantic Canada is thought of as a smart seeing so much of the caucus is from there.
  20. Ralph Goodale not being bilingual is a bit of a problem. I think Carolyn Bennett could be an interesting choice, she'd be someone a bit different though I'm not positive if she's french but I believe she is. They really only need someone in the House of Commons.
  21. Well the Liberals have 34 seats and need a leader to rebuild and stay on a couple of terms. They're likely not going to win the next election so McKenna would be in his 70's in the 2019 federal election. Do you actually think that's smart?
  22. Exactly, it's a stupid "tradition". I believe it was Bob Rae who said yesterday they have to stop these rules on who the leader can be.
  23. They need money for the leadership convention that will cost millions of dollars. So two years of fundraising would help significantly. I don't know much about him but I think while Quebec Lieutenant he was correct when he was trying to get rid of older MPs in exchange for young star candidates.
