  1. Guess those 2 Liberal MPs in Manitoba, and the other Liberal MPs to the west of me just voted themselves in, eh...
  2. If you can read, read, all the answers you want are right here > http://www.liberal.ca/platform/the-economy/fiscal-policy/ I gol-dang double down dare you to look at what the Liberal policies actually are instead of having someone else tell you how to think and act... How's about YOU read my sig line? Ooops, sorry, my bad, YOU can't...
  3. Saddly that is quite true... Since I've taken the matter of "going Green" into my own hands by converting my home to Geothermal heating and cooling and since in Manitoba it's all Hydro Electric my home is as "Green" as one can get with a 0 carbon footprint...
  4. Perhaps... Kinda the same reasoning I use when I say I'll never vote "Conservative" because I associate Diefenbacker, MORONey, and "king" Harper with that brand... ps - I consider Manitoba the "gateway to the west", and last I checked there's still a Liberal or two to the west of me, so you just may be wrong in what you state... Whodda thunk Calgary of all places would go for a visible minority, Muslim, "leftist", mayor, eh...
  5. One word answer - POWER...
  6. Since I totally disagree with the OP's premise... I have to disagree with your assessment as well Justin Trudeau is very much his own man... He is a "chip off the old block" in that he's very smart, speaks outstandingly well, and has his father's passion for what's right and best for ALL Canadians not just certain segments of the Canadian dynamic... At 40, with his background (you may want to read it on his website) he's more than ready to become Liberal leader should he choose to... Personnally, having heard him speak in person a couple of TIMES, I'd welcome him in that role...
  7. You may want to add the word YET to that statement, especially if Harper gets his majority... It's ALL about "profitability" (read GREED) you know... You do know who built most of North America's, including Canada's, initial railway systems right?
  8. Bill, honestly, what is it about things like, "record profits", "highest shareholder dividends", "executive bonuses", "customer service", "reliability", "quality", even "competitiveness" that you don't understand? Shouldn't those things ALL factor in BEFORE one attacks wages and benefits of actual CANADIAN CONSUMERS as the ONLY means to achieving "profitability" (not GREED)? BTW, you ever hear of Wal Mart (or a dozen other US/et al companies willing to "employ" Canadians in Canada)? Do you know who Canada, same as the US, OWES that little $56,000,000,000.00 (that's $56 BILLION) deficit Harper rang up on Canadians to (hint, it wasn't the US and it's first initial is A BIG C and is synonimous with dishes)?
  9. Finally caught on, eh... Took a while, but good for you...
  10. Didn't I just say that? - It will all come down to whether or not Ignatieff has a solid "right hook" (economic plan) to follow up the fairly effective "left jab" (social plan) that he's displayed so far, followed by a devastating "upper cut" (better future for Canada) to put Harper and his gang of thieves out for the count... - As for "I say and attack anyone and anything to gain another meaningless seat" Jack, why would this election be any different?
  11. Not to disagree with you, because for the most part you are right, but this thread is a farce because Michael Ignatieff said no such thing and in fact the absence of the whole "carbon tax" issue NOT being "in" is the "issue" that's being chased here... As Ignatieff correctly stated it's NOT an issue to be addressed while Canada has deficit spending and should only be looked at seriously once the current deficit spending has been slain...
  12. In all honesty I felt much like you do about Ignatieff initially... Since then, here in Winnipeg, I've personally seen Ignatieff in action 3 TIMES (2 x in the by-election that Kevin Lamoureau won from the NDP & the big one last week) and on each occasion I've grown to LIKE Ignatieff more, both as a person AND as a politician, each TIME he spoke... He's a very, very, passionate speaker that speaks straight from the heart, admits when he's wrong, welcomes criticism, and believes in a strong Canada with great "hope" for Canada's future... So what's not to like about that?
  13. St. Boniface is a historically strong Liberal riding that's been augmented by a large influx of ethnic visible minorities, not the least of which is Winnipeg's largest Muslim community, so don't be too sure of yourself... Shelley Glover's disparaging remark about a fellow MP, Liberal incumbant Anita Neville, having "passed her expiry date" isn't going to go over very well in Glover's riding either... Especially not among the high numbers of seniors that vote and are a primary force in old St. Boniface... Ignatieff's biggest, most supportive, and most boisterous crowd of the campaign was held in St. Boniface last week... As well her Liberal opponent is a very well liked and campaign seasoned veteran named Raymond Simard that will hit the ground running hard to unseat her...
  14. Stay cool my friend, it's still early, I don't even know who my Liberal candidate is yet, nevermind getting any election literature or signs... Only incumbants are rolling yet and that skews the polls a lot at this point (I sure hope)... Then there's the "media" that is so "balanced" it gives Harper "equal TIME" by spliting the "opposition TIME" into 3 (4 if you count May) so that each of "the opposition" gets 1/3 the "face TIME" Harper gets to get a message out... Another "problem" beyond Ignatieff's control is the "media" following any direction for this election that Harper sets, like the "coalition" crap, and anything else Harper "directs" for that matter... True "journalism" has died an ignoble death... There's also the "brain washing" effect of two years of seeing Ignatieff disparaged by the Harper attack ads and the public being TOLD how great Canada is doing compared to the rest of the world... It will all come down to whether or not Ignatieff has a solid "right hook" (economic plan) to follow up the fairly effective "left jab" (social plan) that he's displayed so far, followed by a devastating "upper cut" (better future for Canada) to put Harper and his gang of thieves out for the count... How appathetic and stupid Canadians really are has yet to be determined...
  15. Right on! Canada can't possibly be a LEADER on anything! We have to FOLLOW other countries in what they do because we're totally dependent on the scraps they throw us in every decision Canada makes... (sarcasm intended) pssst, you might want to check out what China is doing in this regard, you might be in for a surprise...
  16. I didn't tell you to do anything... I just gave you a choice... Too complicated for you? Isn't that what elections are all about? (psssst, FYI the link isn't the red book, it's the Liberal policies that were developed by grass roots Liberals long before an election was called and still stands.)
  17. Are you people kidding? April fools joke? If you can read, read, all the answers you want are right here > http://www.liberal.ca/platform/the-economy/fiscal-policy/ I gol-dang double down dare you to look at what the Liberal policies actually are instead of having someone else tell you how to think and act... BUT, ultimately, if you're a Harper lemming, do your own thing, and don't bother to THINK at all for yourself, that's what any good "Harperite" does don't you know...
  18. Easy answer: R.E.C.E.S.S.I.O.N. and it's impact, particularily in Southern Ontario... Canada's most populous provinces (including Quebec) which suffered most from what little "recession" Canada experienced were given the "option" (not really) of going into a massive debt deficit and having a "harder" to meet provincial transfer arrangement OR get a BILLIONS of dollar "windfall" (to meet the provinces' balanced budgets) and better provincial transfer arrangement in the future... Why do you think Quebec (and the maritimes) feels it(they) got shafted because they didn't get their fair share of the Harper bribe and ultimatum? Don't get me wrong, Harper didn't have much choice in "forcing" those provinces to take on the HST "proposal" after cutting 2% off the GST which federal revenue had to be replaced somehow... "Taking out" two Liberal provinces (more if you count Quebec and the formerly Liberal Maritimes) was a rather nice bonus for Harper don't you think? I never said that Harper wasn't a "smart" (but terribly anti-Canadian Democracy) politician...
  19. MORONey (Harper's mentor) yes (2 peas in a pod), Clark no way (not even close), how you see any simularity between the two is beyond my understanding... Not at all, that's exactly why I'm voting Liberal, I feel the same way, BUT, if you're hoping for Harper to do that you're completely out of touch with reality...
  20. Yep, but he forgot to thank the Liberal's "anti-deficit rainy day fund" and his own 2 years of surpluses that he squandered as the means to cut 2% off the GST plus forcing two Liberal Governments, Ontario and BC, to adopt the HST to "help" Harper produce those "tax cuts" (aka tax deferrals being the more accurate description)... Of course I don't need to mention that Harper also saddled ALL Canadians for the next few generations with a record $56,000,000,000.00 (that's $56 BILLION) deficit last year (2010), well past the point that the "Global recession" ended (Recession ended in June 2009)...
  21. Are you saying that Harper isn't right wing extremist enough for you? If so I'm sure your wishes will be fully filled should Harper manage to pull out a majority and show his true Republican Red White and Blue colours... Bill, honestly, how can you support someone, or a party, that is trying to drag Canada into being nothing more than the 51st state of a country, the USA, that has shown itself to be totally inept at managing an economy and, because of past Liberal policies Canada pretty much escaped the recession, that the Bush administration with it's unfunded wars, corporate bailouts and deregulation caused?
  22. Smallc, an honest and serious question from a fellow Winnipeger, mind telling me exactly how Ignatieff managed to do that? Here's my "take" on Ignatieff and the CURRENT Liberal party policies... http://www.liberal.ca/platform/the-economy/fiscal-policy/ ie - Deficit Reduction Our plan begins with a commitment to a strong fiscal anchor. A Liberal government will commit to reducing the deficit to one percent of GDP within two years, down from 3.6 percent in 2009-10. We will set subsequent, rolling targets to continue decreasing the deficit every year after that until the country is returned to surplus. Unless Canada is faced with an unexpected second recession, all fiscal planning will be consistent with this anchor. Competitive and Affordable Tax Rates A new Liberal government will implement two measures to make our tax system fairer and preserve revenues. The funds from these measures will support a prudent plan for eliminating the deficit and several investments in the priorities of middle-class families that will also have long-term benefits for our economy. Spending Discipline The Liberal Platform will cost less overall than the course the Harper government is on. That difference will allow for an ample Prudence Reserve, as described above. This platform identifies all the funds needed to pay for all its new initiatives, without adding to the deficit. For example, we will: ............................ Why not check out what Ignatieff and the Liberal Party really stand for? Wouldn't that be the really smart and prudent thing for anyone to do before making up one's mind? As a true fiscally conservative minded centrist Liberal where the actions and ethics of ELECTED MPs and APPOINTED Senators matters most to me in my party choice, I could never consider voting for Harper and his corrupt anti-Canadian, pro-elitist, USA ubber alles, agenda... How can you? You've made some good and honest posts that I've read that certainly don't "fit" well with what Harper has done and is planning to do so please tell why you support him and the CURRENT CPC? Any links you can provide to show me (pro CPC/Harper not anti-Liberal, I've seen plenty of those and am NOT impressed)) why you do would also be appreciated for comparison...
  23. Good post... Very few votes so far, no way to change your vote down the line as this election unfolds, and the very fact that usually more than one person use the same computer (IP address without any other form of ID) are a bit of a drawback to getting a truly accurate result though...
  24. OK... What do you, and most everybody for that matter, really know about Michael Ignatieff and the CURRENT Liberal party? Even more importantly, are you willing to find out about who Michael Ignatieff really is, where the CURRENT Liberal party stands, and what their policies and objectives in governing Canada are? ie - Michael’s commitment to Liberal values has defined him throughout his career, from his undergraduate years at the University of Toronto to his graduate work at Oxford and Harvard to his first teaching job at the University of British Columbia and the long career that followed. Michael has been a leading advocate for human rights, democracy, and international law, and has been recognized around the world for his leadership and scholarship. He’s contributed to the World Economic Forum and served on international commissions that have contemplated the future of NATO, humanitarian law, citizenship and minority rights. - http://www.liberal.ca/michael_ignatieff/?gclid=COe84e7ngqgCFYjsKgodm3lHsg Deficit Reduction We will restore a two-year budgeting framework to increase transparency and make steady, measurable progress in deficit reduction. That progress will be driven by rolling, near-term targets that are firm and achievable. In addition, Liberals will restore prudent budget planning, starting with this platform. By its second year, our plan frees up $7 billion through better choices. We will put some of that money aside in a $3 billion Prudence Reserve, to manage any unforeseen events without missing our targets. If the reserve isn’t needed, it will go toward the deficit. These unshakable commitments – rolling deficit reduction targets, a realistic budgeting timeframe, and a tangible commitment to prudence – worked the last time a Liberal government had to clean up a fiscal mess left by Conservatives. -
  25. I've said it before and I'll say it again... Regardless of the outcome of this election Canadians will get exactly the government they deserve... If the Canadian public is apathetic and stupid enough to give Harper the majority he desperately wants then so be it... It won't affect me one bit one way or another... When in 2-3 years the shit hits the fan and Canada is in the throes of rampant inflation combined with a global DEPRESSION which Canada will feel even more than the US because we'll be little more than the 51st state by then because of the "Harper Doctrin" don't say you weren't warned... Enjoy your "standard of living" while you can...
