  2. You, hopefully are aware that, as you say, the Media plays a big part in perception... When the media reports a "Another NATO soldier died in Khandahar" they make it sound like the death occured in a city not out in some no-man's land because you had to go see some village elder... What's more, when Khandahar and NATO (at least before the "surge") were mentioned together every Canadian knew it was another Canadian soldier that was killed... As you know from my previous posts I strongly support the "troops", but unlike you, I no longer support the mission, in whatever form that mission takes... I think the majority of Canadians feel exactly as I do about that... It's simply taken too long to this point and if ordinary Afghanis haven't figured out that they're better off NOW (10 years later) than when you went in, aren't helping and protecting YOU, with pitchforks if necessary and certainly with information, against the Taliban, nothing will change... Nuff said...

  4. No criticism intended... Just my viewpoint... My view is that Newton's 3 Laws of motion apply very well to the political and social interactions between and within countries... Nothing done stays static in physics or politics... You are of course free to feel differently on that subject or any other...

  11. Gotta disagree somewhat... Planes can both spot and prevent IED placements in areas where troops have to move... It's not having enough air presence in Afghanistan that is at least part of the problem... U.S. troops move around a lot more than Canadian troops by helicopter and have a lot more air cover than our troops, it does keep them somewhat safer... Canada's per capita casualties in Afghanistan are unacceptable at around 10%... Part of that reason is inadequate air cover and air transport...

  18. Well now, let's be realistic here, if it was the CONSERVATIVES that WANTED an ELECTION they'd simply say NO to any "deals" with the NDP and/or BLOC, right? There's no way that either the NDP or BLOC would keep the Harper Gov. in power without being paid off, is there?

In fascism the state is all embracing. For the fascists, no human values exist outside the state. Fascism believes that everything is within the State and nothing is above the State or outside the State or against the State. Fascism believes in nationalism (includes economic nationalism), corporatism (includes economic planning), militarism and totalitarianism (dictatorship and social interventionism). The Communists think globally where as the Fascists think only in a national level. - So! As any intelligent person can clearly see the United States, being a Republic, is 100 X closer to becoming (read "Tea Party Conservatives") a Fascist State than they ever were to becoming a Communist State... Canada and many other nations like Sweden and the United States, are limited Social Democracies and as such far removed from ever becoming either because their peoples, their "society", controls the state...
