  1. The left must include everyone up to PC voters then.
  2. One issue the Tories really misjudged was C-24. Every new Canadian had a little think about that and its potential significance.
  3. On the Left? I don't know what you think the Left is if I am in it.
  4. Have you met many Iranians? Do you call their country scummy to their face? In my experience, they are pretty easy-going people but that might raise a few hackles.
  5. If you have met many Iranians, you will know they are no petty people. Some are famous businessmen and philanthropists in Canada. Iran already has a large middle class with a high proportion of female graduates..There will be significant investment potential for Canadian companies in that country over the next few decades.
  6. And Iran is certainly not little. That is flat out wrong.
  7. Really, it's pretty childish to talk like that about countries. They are far more than their rulers.
  8. So the moral clarity disappears then.
  9. Iran is an ancient civilization that is much more than its oppressive government.
  10. Listen, referring to any country as 'scummy' is inappropriate.
  11. And what happened to Harper's disdain, exactly? Did he get tough with the Chinese? No. He's moral when he thinks he can push people around.
  12. Moderators? Scummy? Whatever about that, Iran is not little, sparsely populated or a recent phenomenon.
  13. I mean understanding that 'moral clarity' is often used to disguise bigotry of one sort or another.
  14. Your contempt for a whole region of this country mirrors that of your leader. Which is why he got no seats here. How come you can away with that on this forum?
  15. You want to get tough with China, too? Lots of executions there, you know. All sorts of interesting things go on in China.
  16. I hope we have good relations with Israel and everyone else out there. Let's go back to being benign, friendly and vague. No need to make enemies unnecessarily like Steve did.
  17. What's with this stampede for the interim post? Does it come with Air Miles or something? A coronation for Kenney would not be good for him or the party.
  18. The Tories seemed to lose faith in their ethnic strategy with C24 and the niqab/cultural practices furor. It hurt their candidates in the GTA, as Paul Calandra noted, and made them look more like a throwback to Reform. I can tell you right now that C24 raises a question mark in the mind of any naturalized Canadian as to whether the list of crimes meriting loss of citizenship will be extended at some point. If they want to be a national party like the Liberals, they have some decisions to make.
  19. He's partly in control - of a progressively shrinking amount of the country. I just can't see a good outcome for him here.
  20. A lot of effort went into that list. Well done. I'd like to see: 1. An end to omnibus bills. 2. Parliamentary oversight of C-51.
  21. How many First Nations languages is she fluent in? From now on, that should be the first question for anybody considered for that portfolio.
  22. But many of the people appointed have known absolutely nothing about First Nations issues. What could be more colonial or insulting than that? It is almost as if FN MPs are forbidden to have it or refuse to take it. I, for one, would like to know which. We have had geographic representation in Cabinet for some time protecting the interests of provinces that are pretty much the same ethnically and linguistically. Imagine having an Albertan representing Nova Scotia. Why not have a FN person who knows what he or she is talking about? If that turns out be unworkable, then we should bite the bullet and reform the Indian Act.Being fluent in a few of the languages spoken would be FAR better than the current situation, having somebody who speaks none which should be embarrassing to this country.
  23. Turkeys don't vote for Christmas. I can't imagine him winning.
  24. The PCs (16%) and Reform (18.7%) got something like 35% of the vote in 1993, down from 43% for the PCs in the previous election. So just two seats for the PCs was due to the split and the vagaries of FPTP.
