  1. I agree that there is a misuse of resources. But not as you see it. In reality, 1/3 of cops are at court, or waiting to testify, or waiting to give evidence, or in some way attending the pleasure of the courts. Another 1/3 are at the police station filling out paperwork. I think I posted somewhere there were about 18 forms to fill out when arresting a drunk driver, for example. A big chunk of others are involved in some kind of support or administrative function. That doesn't leave a lot to be out on the streets. Bubber makes it sound as if your average dope grower is a friendly, happy-go-lucky, pot head, which do no harm. Many of these growers are also dealers and if they are willing to sell pot, what else will they do? Misuse of resources is true, but I'd have to agree with Argus, because of the politically correct world, we are too busy being caught up in the proper paperwork to punish the proper criminals, because we wouldn't want them to get a good lawyer to get them off on a technicality! If criminals were more scared of the punishment, they may not commit the crime! Bring back capital punishment!
  2. Your whole post makes no sense, aside from obvious spelling errors. Relax........, gather YOUR thoughts and post something coherent! YOU did forget to mention that HE(Harper) eats babies! thank YOU.
  3. Indeed Newb.... Welcome to Canada! Whether you are a facist, communist, terrorist or child molester, come to Canada and we'll let you decide what the courts or police should do to you. If you are good enough at story telling, we'll even give you $10 mill for your troubles!!! So pathetic it is when national safety takes aback seat to "human rights"! I guess all of you missed September 11, 2001? If the authorities had have caught those guys before the attack, they should have just let them lawyer up and find some hardcore bleeding heart judges to hear their case and then turn them free, back to their terrorist cell meetings to find a proper way to attack the world and cause as much devastation that they can! Great idea!
  4. The only good thing I can see taking away from Suzuki would be life support and hopefully the Harper Gov't will privatize the CBC and SOOZOOKEY will be out on his ass!
  5. I will be the first in line to witness gerry when he hangs himself with his nylons!! This is a real possiblity since the only guy in the leadership campaign who couldn't speak english, became the leader. Oh happy day for team blue. Who wants to bet the libs get 2 seats next election? I predict Mulroney style majority for Harper next election!
  6. Harper barely goes to church. I think one blog had it as twice last year. Dion's work at Brookings in Washington D.C. was comprised of some fairly complicated math. Harper doesn't defend provincial rights or he would leave the western based Canadian Wheat Board alone since it has majority support in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. You and that wheat board....do you have sexual dreams about the wheat board?? AND...NOBODY like the CWB from the west, who were you polling? Why would anyone, have the lowest price dictated to them by a bunch of communists?
  7. That poll put the Tories at 38% which is barely what they need to get a majority. Depending on vote splits in ridings, that's possible since they would need 25 more seats.More likely though, the united right, and Dion as leader, means that Canada is in for minority governments. Harper and the Tories have every interest in continuing to govern. Every day they are in power means another day to show Canadians that they are a good, honest and effective government. The sky hasn't fallen in. The main Liberal/NDP argument against Harper was based on fear. It doesn't work now. I don't think Dion wants an early election; but those in the party will push for it. They did but it's impossible to have a policy conference when selecting a leader. If Dion were smart, he would hold another conference and take time to renew the party. Instead, he's likely to go along with people in the party who want an election. He'll run on his three pillar programme and be somewhat in the situation of Harper in 2004.No one really knows what the Liberal Party stands for or even what Dion wants - except that they want to defeat Harper and get back into power. I guess the scary thing in all of this is the media. Why would they give a shit what the people of Canada want? They never have. The media desperately wants an election, so much so, the coverage of the liberal leadership has been non-stop. I am so tired of hearing about the liberals, yet the media seems destined to bring it back, regardless of their newly minted, former Chretien flunky, still corrupt, Dion! Despite the fact I hate anything Liberal and now some things red(because of what it represents), I was happy to hear that a corrupt Quebec Lib won the role. I think, there could be nothing better to secure a Conservative majority!! As far as an election, it would be the worst political move ever for the Libs. Remember the last Liberal win, how disorganized the new CPC looked? The Libs need time to get their, how to trick Canadians into believing we are honest facade, planned. That feat should take a considerable amount of time, if you look at the wingnut they picked!
  8. This all sounds great, but if these politicians are as corrupt as many believe, why would anyone think he would actually implement anything of the sort? He is merely blowing smoke up your ass! Just another example of talk, no action. Maybe he would do what he says, but how long has it been since we saw a politician do that?
  9. Since a majority of rural voters supported Conservatives, I would say they are more Conservative, don't you? And there have been several polls about support. Last one this year had support at 73% among grain farmers. If the decision is to be made by the famers, a majority support the Wheat Board. Where is your link....or we just have to believe you?
  10. Actually, that ad has caused some controvsery here in Newfoundland, a lot of people don't like it and some believe it should be taken off the air. This is not a minority rights issue. It doesn't matter if Newfoundlanders made up the majority of citizens in Canada. It's the principle and i'm sure no one likes to be put down or ridiculed. If someone asks me not to use a certain term because they believe it is offensive, then out of respect I won't use that term. The last thing I would do is to respond in a sarcastic and frivilous way. " I remember hearing about a peeler bar in "Fort McMisery(as the Chronicle Herald reporter calls it), that advertised their bar as "Drunken Newfie Approved"! There was a complete uproar, mainly because they have a Newfie mayor and many of those same Newfies came to Fort Mac in the early 70's and have outgrown the "drunken" days! Needless to say, Showgirls pulled their advertising and hauled their horns in fast. I guess not all things about Newfies make them laugh!
  11. Following the recent trend to pick media types, I'm sure Rex Murphy would love the job. It would be fun to watch him sitting on the throne biting his tongue. He would certainly be a force to be reckoned with. I was thinking Rick Hillier after he steps down. Murphy is too annoying to have to listen to daily. I was thinking Rick Mercer for GG. Lets look at his qualifications.... He works for the CBC...check He was born in a foreign country(almost...before Newfoundland joined confederation)...check He is most likely a Liberal (Most Newfies are)....check He has a good sense of humor and probably knows who the Queen is....check Strikes against him. He is not a woman(At least he doesn't seem to be) He is not married to a separatist or any member of the FLQ.(That I know of...is he married?) He sometimes seems somewhat neutral politically....likes to pick on everyone! All in all I think he should be our next GG.
  12. To save people time I present the response quote highlites here: Bob: "I think what he said was disgraceful," "I think to suggest that there is a pro-Israel party in Canada and there's an anti-Israel party in Canada is something of which he should be thoroughly ashamed." Kennedy: "Mr. Harper really diminished his post of prime minister by being so unstatesmanlike," Dion: "I think it's not prime ministerial," "The prime minister is dividing communities, dividing the nation for clearly partisan purposes." Personally, I like Bob's comment best. Steve let his nasty pants show, and he's getting rightfully pumelled for it. Scary Scary Scary Harper! "Soldiers...In our Cities....We can't make this stuff up!" Double post much you twit?
  13. Shouldn't that be up to the farmers who support the single desk seller? A majority support the Canadian Wheat Board. Can you get us a link supporting this post? Kinda sounds like whiney left wing BS to me! Scrap the corrupt CWB and give the control back to the people who deserve it, THE FARMERS! The only farmers who support this communist CWB are the lazy ones who have no idea how to market their own wheat!
  14. You need to remember jbg, that the person starting this thread is half retarded anyway!(if you read what he wrote, it will all make sense!)
  15. I don't live on the coast of Labrador or any outports in Newfoundland, work at a good job in St. John's (and hard work doesn't scare me), never been on EI but I'm glad that there is something there that these people can fall back on. Most of the younger people in these communities have left for the west or if they were lucky found a job in the St. John's area or the nickel or iron ore mines up in Labrador. The seasonal workers tend to be older, late 40s and up with little or no education and all they know how to do is fish. Many have built their own houses or have houses pasted down by their parents with little or no mortgage. So would you tell these people to work at some menial job in Alberta, living in a basement apartment paying >$1000 month rent. Many of these people would be worse off, not better and you expect these people to willingly go to where they would be not as happy? Before you left to find your job, did you have an education? Were relatively young? Have a job waiting for you? Have accomdations waiting for you? If you said yes to even one of these questions, you were in much better shape then many of the people I talked about. There was a interesting interview on CBC Newfoundland last week with a lady in Calgary who dealt with the homeless. She basically said that unless you have a place to stay before you get to Calgary, it would be best not to come. She said that she has seen many people from Atlantic Canada with good paying jobs lined up but were forced to live on the streets or out of their cars because there were no where they could stay. One individual who came from Newfoundland and who secured a good job before he left Newfoundland ended up on the streets for he had no place to stay and got hooked on some heavy drugs. This was pretty scary stuff to me and made me glad that I wasn't in that position. When I left I was 23, I went to college, but never graduated. I left home with 2 bags of clothes and $1000 and no plan, but a couch at my buddies apartment. I was willing to work and that was all the requirment for finding a job. That was 10 years ago and things couldn't be better. Smart move for many, but you have to accept that you may never return home and be willing to work...and that is tough for some!
  16. We are not talking about some vacation home or some dream home. We are talking about people who work hard for half of the year and live on EI for the other half because there is no work. They are not leaving in luxury, that's for sure. There are no movie theatres, there are no stadiums, there are no Tim Horton's or even MacDonalds. Economic realities are much different here than much of the rest of Canada. Hey, I grew up in a town just like that, but I left, because I did not want the dole. I wanted to work year round. (Sorry if that word, "work" scares you lefties!) I had no theater, no Timmy's, no McDee's and no high speed internet either yet, my story never made national news??? Maybe my skin is the wrong color? Or my sexual preference is wrong? If I was a flamer, I'd have made the news no problem or an indian. Instead, I am a lowly white guy who had to travel 5500 kms to find some steady work! So my suggestion...leave that frozen hole and go find some work, if you won't you're a lazy sack of shit
  17. They changed the policy *before* the last election. Did the Liberals break a promise beause five year ago Martin said SSM wasn't on the table? Think about it. Wait that would require the ability to think. Fu#k you and your idiotic insults Ricki! That should get your motor running. I don't care when they changed their policy, a broken promise is a broken promise. This really shows your worth to this forum! Hey Greg, get that boot out and show Gerry the door, we're done with him! Thanks!
  18. This practice by the deep sea trawlers provides few jobs in Newfoundland. And in fact, most Newfoundlanders are against it. By the way, I don't know if you are aware of this but many Newfoundlanders (including myself) consider the term "Newfie" as demeaning and derogatory. I know lots of Newfies and not one of them is hurt by the term "newfie". You would be the first. Should we call you the PC term "Irish-Canadian"?
  19. Most of the Newfies were big Liberal supporters even when they closed the fishery, because it meant more handouts, so they could stay home and drink. They didn't seem to care then(even voted in the ex-fisheries minster Tobin, who was the main character in the closure!), why would they care now. Most of them want to keep it closed in hopes the gov't will keep the dole coming! Hey Rov, throw on your costume & head out a mummering early, it would be more productive! The plain facts are this.... The Liberal government knew in the 70's if they opened up the fishery anymore than it was, it would cause a complete disaster as in Norway. They did not heed the advice of many conservationalists back then and issued more licenses than they could find paper for, in hopes of decimating the industry. They did this for one main reason, to control the income of the self employed fishermen and bring in the quota system to give it all to the big businesses that they already had in their pockets and give the Newfs $350/week to stay at home. To be standing there now and scream at the current government for sins of the LIberals is silly. Put out all the moratoriums you want, do you think Spain cares?
  20. "This nitwit"...well, well...I've either flustered you or you don't know how to respond civically so you resort to childish name calling. Tell you what. If it doesn't go ahead, I'll post that info as well. Be the fair thing to do If I could have thought of another name for someone who posts such foolishness, I would have used it, but nitwit was what came to mind. Can I get you a kleenex?
  21. "The cut may mean the closure of 21 internet sites in Labrador." The main word there is "MAY"! Nothing is for sure, but this nitwit is saying it like it is a for sure! More chicken little Liberal BS!
  22. Okay, so now where are the left lovers when it comes to this discussion? Can you defend yourselves??? NOt one of you have commented here and I know why, you don't see a problem with these hiring procedures, you condone it! Pathetic!
  23. Uh huh....so you are saying you are curious because there are gays but it is guilt that is keeping you back? Quit baiting him, he does not speak for us all, but I see his point. It is frustrating to see how much the "minority" card is being used. As a white, english speaking, straight male, we are destined to be punished for the sins of our forefathers!! Yes, I said "punished" and I mean it, because we are being punished by watching how a lifestyle we strongly disagree with is being exalted to the point of them teaching it in schools! We are not welcome to apply for government jobs, because we are not a visible minority. If we only speak english, we are punished in many ways, by being intolerant to the french language. I call it the demise of western civilization, because the "weak" not the "meek" are inheriting the earth! If this offends you, it is too bad, because it is not meant to offend, it is truly how I feel!
  24. You whole arguement does not make any sense. If the Catholic church does not want to marry divorced people or protestants, then that is their right, big deal. The KoC is OWNED by the Catholic church, so yeah, they can decide who uses THEIR hall! Irrational fears?? WTF? How about a kid bringing a bible to church??? 20 years ago that was okay, not anymore!!!! Yet, bring your gay marriage books to school, no problem...even in throw it in the curriculum!!! So tell me how these are irrational fears? I am not welcome to say how I feel about ssm, that is the thing, if I say it is wrong, I am branded a bigot!! How is that for free speech? Welcome to the new Canada, where you can marry a fag, you just can't smoke one(cigarette)!!!!!!!
  25. People who oppose the rights of Gay and lesbians are not in danger of having their rights diminished....so your question isn't valid. There is no need to protect from non existant dangers. As for christian people and opposing gay rights, you are in danger. You soon will be punished by saying it's wrong(ssm) or ministers refusing to marry a same sex couple. If you say that is not likely, you are so full of shit, your eyes must be brown!!! If you are looking for an example, try the KoC hall in BC that got sued by two lesbians over renting their hall, the 2 lesbians won that battle, I believe. So, how long before ministers are getting sued? or Justice of the peace? Won't be long.
