All political parties "bend the truth" once in campaign mode, but the recent Liberal effort in opposing Bill C-42 ( Common Sense Firearms Act) is laden with outright lies, fear mongering and misinformation: From the LPC info-machine: This of course is an outright lie.........currently, restricted and prohibited owners must have both a restricted firearms licence (RPAL) to purchase and possess said firearms, and a Authorization to transport (ATT) permit, which allows the owner to transport their firearm(s) to a range, club, gun show, gunsmith and a Port of Entry.......not schools, shopping centers or sporting events......... Under C-42, the owners ATT (and its conditions) will be combined with an owners RPAL......Here the Liberals are outright lying....... The RCMP do not they classify other items like cars, cellphones or baby cribs for safety....With firearms, there is already defined definitions on what makes a firearm non-restricted, restricted and prohibited, based on the firearms action, barrel length and overall size etc...... These definitions will not change, what will change, is the RCMP having the ability to reclassify firearms (after already classifying them safe based on the definitions within the Firearms Act), without the consent of the elected Government.... As was the case with the Swiss Arms rifle, which the RCMP classified non-restricted over a decade ago, then reclassified recently as prohibited because several dozen were imported into Canada with recycled parts of an automatic version used by the Swiss Army by mistake.... Of course, said mistake didn't make these firearms automatic, nor unsafe to the Canadian populace, and instead of recalling the several dozen guns in Canada, the RCMP firearms lab banned the entire family of firearms, without Government consent, making thousands of Canadians paper criminals overnight.......of note, there is not a single documented instance of a Swiss Arms rifle being used in a commission of a crime anywhere in the World... C-42 will indeed take the ability to make laws away from the RCMP's firearms lab....... Now it appears the NDP is maybe, kinda like, leaning towards bringing back a long gun registry (kissing goodbye to rural Canada), but the NDP's stance on firearms is clear......they don't like them.......But the Liberals, don't like them dependent on political wind direction, but with this new anti gun push (against C-42) it is utterly shocking to me......There is nothing within C-42 that can even be argued that will make the public unsafe, gun groups like the NFA look at it with disdain even, and the Liberals are attempting to leverage a complete non-issue, out of an issue, that has hurt them politically in the past and will hurt them again..... Of course, this will greatly benefit the Tories, much like the previous long gun registry, in terms of both donations and solidifying support........It is as if the Liberal's are attempting to shoot themselves in the foot yet again...

Very little, the police after all are mandated to enforce the law, not to be social workers....... As has already been said though, where is the outage and protests over the daily violence in the suburbs of Chicago, Detroit, Oakland and Los Angeles etc? These recent incidents are merely the newest cause célèbre for the professional protesters and media, and will fade in coverage once the next big thing comes along.......and Black youth will continue to be killed by other blacks, likewise they will continue to be arrested (and shot at times) by (white) police........
-
Sure they do, and like First Nations here, statistics also show this particular racial group is beset with social failings (poverty, poor education, broken homes etc) that directly contribute to said disproportional amounts of crimes.......
-
They didn't, the media did......the initial announcement by the Minister(s) stated that the bulk of the funding (increasing capacity of clinics) would be spent in the first six years, in addition to funding clinical medical research through the length of the planned programs, which is 50 years, the expected lifetime of the majority of Afghan vets........apparently, either a Veteran affairs spokesperson (as a later follow-up) and/or webpage latter led to the incorrect reporting, but, the intent was clear from the start.....
-
No, a portion of the funding, directed at medical research, will be funded over 50 years..........Can you comprehend the importance of clinical research over the lifespans of the participants? Might it not be important to follow the progress of an Afghan vet today, that is 25 years old, out into his or hers 70s, 80s etc?
-
You seem confused, as stated in the announcement, ~150 million will be used to construct a new mental health clinic on the East Coast and expand other current facilities across Canada, in addition, another ~50 million will be added (over the life of the program, which is 50 years) to medical research......50 years after all is only natural, fore the majority of the Afghan vets will be in their 70s,80s and even 90s at the end of the clinical research program..... So, what was the lie?
-
What lie did the Government tell?
-
Would you say there are more vets now than post WW II and Korea and could this play into the department size of Veterans Affairs Canada? And how was a soldier's pension "gutted"?
-
Did you not post: How in your view, are all Vets not being treated right by the current Government, likewise, how would you expect it to be different under a Liberal or NDP Government? When the Liberals, Conservatives and NDP all voted in support of the current Veterans Charter, do you feel the intent was to treat Veterans poorly?
-
So since you can't change the Government, you prefer to Vets to "continue to suffer" (in your opinion) so as to leverage votes for the next Federal election........in a word, you consider Veterans a political tool.
-
No, the current Government doesn't feel its doing anything bad too Vets.........it is you that stated you feel Vets are suffering, and that you hope they continue to suffer and this results in them voting for a differing party (other than the Tories).......
-
You consider it respectful to, in your view, keep vets suffering for political gain?
-
The court case in BC has been ongoing for some time........none the less, the majority of serving and retired members fully understand that the Liberals/NDP, by in large, like yourself, see Veterans as nothing but political pawns as made evident by your remarks: You understand the majority of the remaining vets within the system are no longer playing the "long game" right?
-
There is no indication that the "Vet Vote" is swinging away......of course, as said before, the current Veterans Charter was tabled by the previous Liberal Government, and supported by both the Tories and NDP and is only opposed by a fraction of Veterans and members of PSAC........likewise, current serving members (the next generation of Veterans) understand all too well the implications beset upon the Canadian Forces by a Liberal and/or NDP Government.........
-
And of course, the DoJ/FBI already aided in the investigation leading up to the Grand Jury.......
-
To add, Walt Natynczyk (former head of the Army, then CDS, then head of the Canadian Space agency) was recently named Deputy Minister of Veterans Affairs....
-
But of course, 150ft/50 yards is far beyond effective, accurate, range of a police issue pistol.......the entire meme that Officer Wilson engaged Brown at such distances, and hit Brown numerous times, is pure fantasy.
-
That doesn't mean anything, dependent upon the officers sidearm, grip on the gun, the officers movement etc, shell casings could land over 20 feet (in any direction) from where they were ejected from the officer's gun.
-
To add further to your hypothesis, the actual effective range of a handgun (when one is under duress) is 7 yards or under.........or ~20ish feet.
-
135 feet is about ~45-50 yards.......with handguns, and dependent on the shooter, gun, sights, ammo, caliber etc, you're looking at about 25-~30ish yards as maximum effective range for a handgun.
-
I guess urban Chicago isn't "hilly" enough.......
-
Effective pistol range?
-
Not only a protest, but looting, arson and vandalism......much like the similar response from "white people" after OJ Simpson was acquitted....
-
Exactly, and that coupled with Brown's blood found within the cruiser lend credibility to the officer's telling of the nights events.....
