Does anyone here think this man should go to jail?
OftenWrong replied to a topic in The Rest of the World
Advocating that all the teachers should have been killed, sounds like a psychopath to me. 8 weeks is not enough. This man is mentally ill,he should be forced into therapy. -
But look at all the goods we can buy that's made in India, and other places where there's no environmental controls. That's how you get your $19 track pants, with the nice white stripes.

I agree its drifted. But if you read the thread you will see that westcoastrunner and kimmy are the ones who took it there. I was surprised when they suddenly appeared in the conversation, only to do that. Really underscores the infected groupthink around here.

Nice ridicule, complete with the rolling eyes. I guess politeness and respect are not a requirement around here, so why bother.Let's all just be blatant dicks, then whine about it when people leave and blame the moderator.

Clearly, moderation is not needed here. Because everyone is capable of moderating themselves

This week in Islam: Muslim Officials Condemn Abductions of Girls http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/muslim-officials-condemn-abductions-girls-23623896 Muslim leaders in various countries have criticized Boko Haram's leader for using Islamic teachings as his justification for threatening to sell the girls into slavery. Religious Endowments Minister Mohammed Mohktar Gomaa said "the actions by Boko Haram are pure terrorism, with no relation to Islam, especially the kidnapping of the girls." Sheik Ahmed el-Tayeb of the Cairo-based Al-Azhar, one of Sunni Islam's most prestigious institutions, said the abductions "completely contradict Islam and its principles of tolerance." PAKISTAN: Dawn published an opinion piece that takes Nigeria to task for not moving against Boko Haram. "The popular upsurge in Nigeria in the wake of the latest unspeakable atrocity provides some scope for hoping that the state will finally act decisively to obliterate the growing menace," wrote columnist Mahir Ali. INDONESIA: In the world's most populous Muslim-majority country, the Jakarta Post published an editorial Wednesday condemning the Boko Haram leader for "wrongly" citing Islamic teaching as his excuse for selling the abducted girls into slavery. Recalling the Taliban's shooting of 15-year-old Pakistani girl Malala Yousafzai in 2012 because of her outspokenness in defense of girls' right to an education, the editorial said: "Malala's message needs to be conveyed to all people who use their power to block children's access to education. It is saddening that religion is misused to terrorize people and to kill the future leaders of the world." Just trying to provide a more balanced the view to show that what happened in Nigeria does not represent what Islam believes. The thread title is inflammatory and shows that the OP is ignorant. The people who did this are terrorists, not just another day in Islam. I thought Charles A does not allow topics in which whole groups of people are blamed for the actions of a few.

There is no problem, so nothing needs to be changed.

Why remove the topic without even giving the poster an explanation? Or better yet, why not go to the original poster and tell them what the problem is, give them a chance to fix it first.Seems like this top-heavy moderation without explanation leaves users with a feeling that they are not appreciated. Reminds me of an unhappy, arrogant school teacher who hates her job. The job of moderator cannot be fun, when dealing with immature posters all the time. It takes a special person to be able to do this. I don't think your moderator has the patience or interest anymore. A person in that role needs to ask themselves if the job they're doing is helping or not, based on the feedback from forum users. If not, it's time to offer up the position and see if anyone else wants to try it. It's a hard job and thankless, I'm sure, but think about what's best in the interest of the forum you are moderating.

None of you touched this, which is the actual point I am making. As a person who advocates a more tolerant, forgiving view of drug abusers, but combined with the necessity of rehab, I find the media hysteria and public ridicule of Ford for his substance problems a major step backward for people with views like myself, the view that substance abuse is a medical condition, not criminal problem. If we are to change societies view of drug abuse to move away from incarceration, your attitudes need to change. You may have other real reasons to dislike Ford but clearly, the drug issue has taken over and is being used by proponents of prohibition to keep the public mindset in the status quo. There has been nary a rational voice to bring balance to this issue. You, the naive public have all be fooled.

Wow, best thread on this forum, hands down. Better than Jerry Seinfeld. I've never seen a thread like this before on any forum. You've got a moderator who seems like he's impatient and doesn't like doing the job. If you don't like it guy, step aside and let someone else have a turn. You've got members who can only whine at each other (Maple Leaf Whiners lol), one guy who's constantly excusing ineffective forum behaviour. There's very few people who seems polite and level headed. Did they all run away? In my experience most forums have a mix of good people who are reasonable and accommodating towards others of dissenting opinion, and a few who are always playing the antagonist. What's happened here? It's like this place has been distilled down to just the bitter dregs. It's a neurotic, dysfunctional freak show.

1. That is not what's being said.2. I already said I'm in favour of rehab, not jail. Seems like folks here don't read what other people actually say, if they have a different opinion. What I'm getting here is, let's re-interpret what OftenWrong says to make his views look ridiculous. You people call this debate? I'm already sorry I wasted my time here.

I see a lot of personal insults in these forums. One poster told me when they reported them, many times, it appeared that nothing was done. The offending party continued to give offense, and still does so. Report and ignore did not appear to help. I guess it's different when you're the one being insulted.

Ok so, "my drugs are better than your drugs".It's hypocritical to viscerally attack him the way some have done here, and then advocate that legalization is fine and won't have a major backlash against society. With legalization you will get a lot more Rob Fords. I'm in favour of decriminalizing all drug use because it is a medical problem. Laws should be put in place to order people like Ford to enter rehab programs. More rehab programs, less jails. But society is not ready for that attitude yet, thanks to the way the media attacks people like Ford. Do you get that?
-
I don't follow everything Ford says, because it's a media circus. I'm sure many people enjoy it. But I recall him saying things like "everybody has problems" or some such thing, in relation to his. I don't know his position on drug laws. As stated he's a mayor and cannot directly affect those. But the example you give, going after the media is not hypocrisy in itself. The fact that he has a substance abuse problem vs. attacking the media (like Toronto Star for hyping stories for all they can) does not make it hypocrisy.

Haven't you ever heard that most people take drugs of some kind? And lots of people in high levels of management, judicial, government, they take drugs as well. Let alone alcohol. There are 'functional alcoholics'. My point is, there are so many drug users at all levels of society, you don't know it because they keep it well hidden. In that regard Ford's problem is not that he does drugs, but he doesn't keep it hidden.I find it ironic that people like you have such a hate on for Ford because he has a drug problem, and he's in denial, while you go and smoke your doobies and probably have your drinks, and point your finger at him.
-
That's really obtuse.
-
Why is it that people on the left, the same ones calling for drug legalization and telling us drugs are not bad, are the ones leading the attacks on Ford for his own drug use? Don't they see their own hypocrissy. This is why the CPC is implementing mandatory minimum sentences, so anyone who takes illegal drugs gets convicted and carries a criminal record. Keep the people safe.

I don't think it was done out of malice

Try to get my name right, lest my "certainty" on this matter is a little too subtle for ya

I think Bush's paintings are pretty good. I used to dislike him but that has changed over time. This thread is based on a falsehood, there are no dead children in his paintings. There's no reason to post junk like this, other than to incite a useless argument and provoke one person. Talk about trolling? Here it is.

Indeed, I am certain that if bush_chiney were banned, the quality of this forum would go way, way up

Indeed, I see no problem with the moderation of these forums...
