I have often wondered why Harper is considered a religious zealot when he never ever discusses his religion. Trudeau and other leaders go to church professing to be Roman Catholics, a religion that has some pretty far out beliefs. e.g. transubstantiation and is zealously anti abortion. Why is Harper treated differently ?

Justin Trudeau has gone against his religion so technically should be excommunicated.

I watched it and thought Hudak won although there was no knock out punch. I did like the NDP promising to remove the HST from Hydro bills, they could have hammered home a lot more on the mismanagement of Hydro. Wynne evaded all questions sticking to the party talking points, bad form IMO. I did dislike the way both Wynne and Horwath misrepresented Hudak's plan to cut jobs. As reckless as they make it out to be, it is over a period of years by attrition, retirement and contracting out. Even after he explained it they continued to misrepresent it omitting the fact that Liberals increased the civil service by 300,00. Too bad he didn't interrupt them to call them. guess that is not allowed. If Wynne is voted in, Ontario is doomed.

Time to ban third party advertising in Ontario
cindi replied to Scotty's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
It does look that way. We now have Unifor which represents the media taking out ads against the conservatives, freedom of speech and all but I do wonder why 3rd parties aren't subject to the same financial constraints as politicians during a campaign. Surely that would be fair. -

Harper Government Ignoring Aboriginals
cindi replied to Big Guy's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Indeed, this is threats of domestic terrorism. I believe it would be a big mistake to give the Chiefs or Bands control and use of this money which no doubt would be funneled away from education. The best way to improve the lives of Natives is through education to the same provincial standards and curriculum as everyone else. They can add their own aboriginal culture etc. to the program. -
I haven’t seen any mention of the Liberals cutting the Walkerton Clean Water Centre funding by $1 million a year in I think 2011, guess she forgot to mention it. How hypocritical is that. I do believe Hudak made a mistake pegging the cuts so high but what hasn’t been mentioned is that the Liberals increased civil service jobs by 300,000.

Harper Government Ignoring Aboriginals
cindi replied to Big Guy's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Good point. Sometimes I think we or some people tend to hold the perception that aboriginal culture is somehow superior to others and that we should enshrine it forever in perpetuity based on racial ancestry. Why should anyone of us rely on a sparse recollection of a diminutive connection fo people dead for decades or centuries in order to claim special privileges. Seems to me this is all tribalism triumphant. Having said that, I do not believe that the gov't has been 'ignoring' aboriginals', in fact I am sure I've read that this government has spent more on aboriginal funding and treaties than others. -
I watched a bit of QP today, I thought he got pretty red faced and defensive, he also spoke in French as a deflective measure. He says he’s done nothing wrong, isn’t that what they all say ? Well sure, but look at this, http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2014/05/15/ndp-guy-caron-mailings-offices_n_5327905.html?ir=Politics The NDP is not above doing whatever it takes but it appears to me some people want to whitewash what they do. They are political animals after all.

Hey - this one is worth a read (am I allowed to post this) it is a pretty good synopsis and sure confirms that we should not believe everything we read in the media. It was pretty much an organized witch hunt. IMO and I'm sticking with it. http://www.genuinewitty.com/2014/04/26/robocall-scandal-an-insiders-view-of-the-lefts-embarrassing-fraud-feat-leadnow/

IMO the report makes it clear that there was no fraud or conspiracy, even if there is a belief that they ‘obstructed’ the investigation. There wasn't anything to find, it was all wind and hot air. It’s obvious that because the findings are not what some wanted to hear, they will continue with the allegations. Innuendo and allegations are what caused this in the first place (Guelph aside). Conspiracy theorists have been in overdrive but the bottom line is that out of 40,000 complaints 96% came from one source complaining about what they had read in the papers. I suppose there will always be those who think they know more and some of the media will continue to push it, but it’s over. There was no grand scheme at all, but never mind carry on if it keeps you merry. It's opinion and I'm sticking with it. http://www.ipolitics.ca/2014/04/24/robocalls-the-conspiracy-theory-goes-poof/ The Canadian Robocall Affair may yet be filed under ‘History’s Greatest Hysterias’, next to the Tanganyika Laughter Epidemic of 1962 and the Dancing Plague of Strasbourg, France, in 1518.

He references this http://www.parl.gc.ca/HousePublications/Publication.aspx?DocId=6508827&Language=E&Mode=1&Parl=41&Ses=2 http://www.canada.com/story_print.html?id=ea75bcfe-916d-4158-9cb6-bf0890ca9169 I guess if you believe Elections Canada, then you have to believe their robo call verdict right, or is E.C. only correct when you want it to be.

What about Muslim countries with their State religion and sharia law which are theocracies, is that right for them or is it an exception too. Why should Britain have to make changes to accommodate atheists et al. No one is forced to be Anglican or believe in any religion and neither is Britain a theocracy so no one loses out, it's all part of their history based on the Magna Carta really. John, by the grace of God King of England, Lord of Ireland, Duke of Normandy and Aquitaine, and Count of Anjou, to his archbishops, bishops, abbots, earls, barons, justices, foresters, sheriffs, stewards, servants, and to all his officials and loyal subjects, greeting. Know that before God, for the health of our soul and those of our ancestors and heirs, to the honour of God, the exaltation of the holy Church, and the better ordering of our kingdom etc. etc. . http://www.bl.uk/treasures/magnacarta/translation/mc_trans.html

Exactly as the report said: “the evidence gathered in the investigation does not lend support to the existence of a conspiracy or conspiracies to interfere with the voting process.”
-
Maybe with the lack of scandals and the Parliamentary press gallery in shock over this crisis, the numbers will increase again in favour of the CPC. Guess they will have to find another faux scandal.
-
It does look that way doesn't it. As Ezra Levant Tweeted: Robocalls is a scandal. Not for the Tories - for the Media Party. But their professional negligence will go unpunished, almost unmentioned. I just heard that Mulcair says he is talking to the 10 provinces to bring them onside to abolish the Senate. Now that is fantasy land.
-
Agree it's also a blow for the NDP and any gov't that might want to bring some changes to the Senate, changes I would say the majority of people want. This is more the Supreme Court flexing its muscle and obstructing a democratically elected federal government. We might not like the concentration of power within the PMO - but at least the PM/party is democratically elected whereas there is an enormous concentration of power within the unelected for life SCOC. So now we seem to have a constitutional black hole from which no light can emerge. Somehow, the SCOC must be brought into the democratic picture because the will of the people cannot be exercised if an unelected S.C. can override an elected majority gov’t. or the people's wishes.

According to my reading and this link is one of them, Guelph is troublesome of course. This appears to have been a left wing driven fiasco. We spent a lot to establish that the robocall bogyman was a phantom of overactive imaginations. 96% of communications were from Lead Now expressing dissatisfaction with inappropriate calls. They were not from people who actually received the calls. Other than Guelph where something did happen, I am satisfied with this finding. Elections Canada has issued a report on its investigation into deceptive calls in the last election, concluding that “the evidence gathered in the investigation does not lend support to the existence of a conspiracy or conspiracies to interfere with the voting process.” The investigation did find evidence that “that incorrect poll locations were provided to some electors, and that some nuisance calls occurred,” but that does not show that the calls were made to try to prevent people from voting, according to Yves Cote, the Commissioner of Canada Elections. As a result, no charges will be laid, beyond those in Guelph, Ont., where a former Conservative staffer faces trial this summer in relation to a robocall that sent hundreds of voters to the wrong polling station. At a lunchtime speech in Ottawa on Thursday, Pierre Poilievre, the Minister for Democratic Reform, welcomed the report, saying that it confirmed that the party ran a fair and ethical campaign. Conservative Party spokesman Cory Hann lauded the report and said it should put questions to rest. “For the last two years the opposition parties have made unsubstantiated allegations which have now been proven to be false by elections Canada,” http://o.canada.com/news/robocalls-report-finds-no-evidence-of-conspiracy-to-deceive-voters-beyond-guelph/ Sorry, post #10 referred to robo calls.

According to the BBC It is technically correct constitutionally and historically as England has an established Church with it’s Bishops sitting in the House of Lords. The Monarch is head of state and also the supreme governor of the Church of England. One of the monarch's titles is Defender of the Faith. Changing yes for sure, but as Rees said. The legal system was founded on "the Christian principles of justice and fairness" http://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-27111146

Time will tell. I am predicting a conservative minority, but what do I know.
