Islamophobia in Canada
WestCoastRunner replied to Hudson Jones's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I work in the male dominated IT industry and have witnessed sexual harassment and condescending, insulting behaviour from men to women. These are perpetrated by white men mostly. Should we include these stats as hate crimes against women perpetrated by white men? -

Totally agree. Does that guy get out much? I mean, come on. This is ridiculous. Are we living in the 60's or does this guy only see what he wants to see? -

That's quite a stretch saying Jaycee supports terrorists. It's a ridiculous comment and you are smply taking her posts out of context. -

It's imperative that men speak up about womens issues. Men can give exposure to issues that can be ignored if a women is leading the charge. The trick is for men not to exploit that opportunity to their own benefit. I can also see men making a huge difference in the states when fututre Supreme Court Judges are appointed. Trump will try to appoint pro-life Judges. These need to be stopped. -

As far as red hot housing sales:. Second is whether or not really they’re going to recover from an inflation-adjusted standpoint. For some of these markets, if they do, it may be decades — and in particular when you’re talking specifically about the markets that tend to be in the Rust Belt — places like New Haven, Connecticut; Lake County, Illinois/Kenosha, Wisconsin; and Camden, New Jersey — those areas are seeing pretty long-term and significant population declines, which are never highly correlated with increases in prices. Usually, population decline leads to decreases in prices. Ironic isn't it. More up to date housing analysis http://knowledge.wharton.upenn.edu/article/u-s-housing-market/ -

Some of your information is outdated. Donald Trump promised to reduce the nation's $19.5 trillion debt by growing the economy and reducing waste in federal spending. Instead, his policies will increase the debt by $5.3 trillion. Here are his plans to reduce the debt, and how they will impact the U.S. econom More analysis found here: https://www.thebalance.com/trump-plans-to-reduce-national-debt-4114401 -

Do you have any studies to prove this is in fact true in Canada. Perhaps this should be moved to another thread? -

You should be a politician. And I hope you don't refer to them as homos or trannies in front of your children -

So just to be clear. You have no problem addressing a gay man as homo knowing it is offensive to them? -

I don't know why you are going crazy here with word definitions. You quoted above that you would call a person by a slang name if they are good with it. I am telling you that the slang 'homo' is not OK with the gay community but you continue to use it. Why is that? -

I don't see this happening anywhere in Canada. Breaking down western society and values, anarchy on the streets? Marxist utopia. Oh please. More hyperbole! -

Thanks for the thoughtful response. I get it's the best you can do. But when someone takes the time to look for and post a link to support their argument, the least you can do is acknowledge that perhaps you were wrong in using certain terms to address a group of people. It's far more mature than to say 'the article is gay'. Wth does that even mean? -

Honestly Hal. I have previously provided you with information on this term. Why don't you expand your mind. https://mobile.nytimes.com/2014/03/23/fashion/gays-lesbians-the-term-homosexual.html -

You know that tranny and homo are derogatory terms (as I have pointed that out to you previously) but yet you continue to use them. If someone insulted your children with derogatory terms and you pointed it out would you not hope they would in the future address them in a respectful manner. -
Senator John McCain has been diagnosed with an agressive form of brain cancer. I like and respect McCain for his integrity and his fighting spirit. This diagnosis could explain some of his previous missteps during some of the hearings. Some of his history: "McCain followed his father and grandfather, both four-star admirals, into the United States Navy, graduating from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1958. He became a naval aviator, flying ground-attack aircraft from aircraft carriers. During the Vietnam War, he was almost killed in the 1967 USS Forrestal fire. In October 1967, while on a bombing mission over Hanoi, he was shot down, seriously injured, and captured by the North Vietnamese. He was a prisoner of war until 1973. McCain experienced episodes of torture, and refused an out-of-sequence early repatriation offer. His war wounds have left him with lifelong physical limitations." "Following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather, McCain entered the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis. There, he was a friend and informal leader for many of his classmates,[11] and sometimes stood up for targets of bullying.[4] He also became a lightweight boxer.[12] McCain did well in academic subjects that interested him, such as literature and history, but studied only enough to pass subjects he struggled with, such as mathematics.[4][13] He came into conflict with higher-ranking personnel and did not always obey the rules, which contributed to a low class rank (894 of 899), despite a high IQ.[11][14] McCain graduated in 1958.[11]" Source:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_McCain

Yes and the democrats paid the price for it. Doesn't look like the republicans are willing to doing anything to move forward on this. They had many years to prepare for this. Doesn't seem like they wanted to put the work into it. -

Islamic Banking in Canada
WestCoastRunner replied to WestCoastRunner's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Exactly. In fact, to open an account at a credit union you need to have a satisfactory credit rating while at the banks you don't. Even in Canada we are restricting memberships to Canadians within our own domestic banking system. -
Islamic Banking in Canada

You don't have to be a Muslim to be a customer and they could very well offer products that can't be offered by a Canadian bank. They would also have to follow federal regulations. I still don't understand the hyperbole. -

Yes, it's such a threat to non-Muslims, to have their Muslim neighbours buried facing towards Mecca as well as space to ritually wash before attending services. Good grief. -

Goddess mentioned how horrific it would be for Muslims to have their own banking system in Canada without providing evidence of how disasterous it would be or how Europe is suffering from those consequences. When dicussing Islamic banking, it would help to provide information on how it works and why it's becoming so popular worldwide: “Islamic finance is attractive to ethical investors or those looking to do business with Shariah-compliant businesses,” said Farmida Bi, a London-based banking lawyer and head of Islamic finance in Europe at Norton Rose Fulbright global law firm.“These economies (in non-Muslim countries) are interested in the financing opportunities that Islamic finance can offer, both as an external investor and to respond to the demands of their indigenous Muslim populations,” she told Arab News. “The opportunities emanating from the FinTech scene and the ethical financial space gives rise to how the UK’s Islamic finance can look at shaping and taking the lead in fulfilling the wider needs of society through technology and innovation, especially with a younger, more socially active generation wanting to join the industry,” she told Arab News. "In a survey by Al-Rayan Bank in 2014, 57 percent of non-Muslim participants said Islamic finance was relevant to all faiths because they believed it was ethical.“Many professionals working in Islamic finance today have a background in conventional finance and banking, and many of those are non-Muslim,” Mahmood said." Here in Canada: "If there is a risk that a change in government is going to change its view on that kind of investment, that spooks investors," he said. "So the government must be clear to say . . . 'We're open to Islamic finance, we welcome it,"' Islamic finance – which bans interest payments and investments in gambling, pornography, weapons, alcohol, tobacco and pork – is a fast-growing niche in the financial services industry. Hejazi says the Islamic ban on interest doesn't mean consumers borrow money for free – it just requires loans to be structured more like partnerships between financial institutions and borrowers. "The whole idea or the concept is to avoid people becoming buried in debt because, back in the days of the Prophet, ... when people weren't able to pay their debt they were enslaved or exploited," he said. In the case of commercial loans, that means both the bank and the borrower must have a vested interest in the success of the underlying business. "If the underlying business does well, they share in the profit," Hejazi says. "If it does poorly, they share in the losses. That's the fundamental difference; this idea of shared risks, and nobody can have a guaranteed return." You seem to think that once Muslim women enter Canada they are left alone in their homes with their abusive husbands forced to wear a burka. They have resources to turn to and outreach programs to help them adjust to living in a country with a foreign culture, foreign language and not to mention the hatred that is spewed out towards them. One such organization is the Canadian Council of Muslim Women. Their mandate: 'these women sought to mobilize their passion for social justice and faith in order to enrich their communities and work towards the common good of Canadian society.' not-for-profit organization that works to provide equity, equality and empowerment for all Canadian Muslim women. For the past 30 years, its proud and accomplished roster of members have achieved and continue to achieve great milestones for Muslim women and Canada’s multicultural landscape. As a highly diverse organization, CCMW is firmly committed to the overarching vision of improving the status of Muslim women to remain true to their Islamic heritage and Canadian identity. One of their projects include: VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN – HEALTH AND JUSTICE FOR CANADIAN MUSLIM WOMEN WOMEN IN NIQAB SPEAK: A STUDY OF THE NIQAB IN CANADA Instead of helping to suppress these women new to Canada, perhaps you should volunteer to help them adjust.
