  1. You are correct. This is about an individual being able to perform their work duties without having to fight off harassment. Harassment in the workplace also includes bullying by managers and colleagues, as well as fighting off the public.
  2. Of course you don't. Your are not a female reporter just trying to do her job and ends up having to fight for the right to do her job without sexist harassments.
  3. He blows it off because that's his thing. Hal has come back to attack threads that seek to fight for women's rights. That is his MO. I'm not sure why he does it. It's a head scratcher to me. There is so much wrong with his logic that it's tiring to even think of a response.
  4. Why on earth do I bother trying to bring women's accomplishments and issues to this forum. It's simply ridiculous the bs I put up with. I'm done with this forum.
  5. Thank you Wilbur. It gets tiring to constantly defend women's rights against so many men. It's great to have men speak up once in a while to support our rights.
  6. I'm trying to obtain informed and educated posts from Hal. He keeps falling back to his hero A whatever. I want to hear posts with meat from Hal.
  7. The only thing he acknowledges has nothing to do with women.
  8. Some of the male members here have a real hard time giving away recognition to women for hard fought 'firsts'. I am scratching my head over this one. I am so proud to tell my daughters of these accomplishments and I don't want to introduce the male individuals who try to diminish the female accomplishments.
  9. Except for the fact that a woman has never won the 'best director' in a heavily male dominated category in the Oscar presentations. Is this something that shouldn't be recognized from a women's perspective?
  10. Not exactly true. Because we can earn a living and have babies, our responsibility has gained twofold! My daughter has two young sons. She wants to go back to work part-time to escape the doldrums of being at home 24/7. For that she is insulted for being a nasty mom and even wanting to dare to go back to work part time. Where will it end! However, I did phone my mom today! And my daughters phoned me.
  11. Actually you did call a few folks dummies and red necks but many of us have fallen into the same trap. I don't know what Drummindiver is whining about. He really has no assurance that none of us haven't been warned a time or two to dial down our insults. Drummindiver seems to believe that he is the only one that is singled out. I assure you, that you are not. You just take it more personally than anyone else.
  12. As usual Hal, you respond to the best of your ability.
  13. Exactly, a perfectly simple explanation why a woman won the oscar for 'best director'. Let's diminish the rewards.
  14. Believe whatever you want. I'm not here to convince you. I'm only here to draw attention to the doc and the issues it covers. You can believe them or not. Doesn't matter to me. Whitewash them away if you like.
  15. Kathryn bigelow was the first female to win Oscar for best director, even beating out her ex. I believe this is an event that should be given a shout out too. Is this not another great accomplishment that should be recognized in the mainstream media (which it was). The movie was 'hurt locker'. Clearly a film directed for men.
  16. And you have also said that women have many perks and I kept asking for this info because it would be great for my and my daughters to know about! But alas, no information was forthcoming.
  17. You are missing the point of the documentary discussing violent sexist harassment towards female gamers. You go on and on about swj and other remarks where you are deflecting from the issue in the doc. If you do don't want to watch it and educate that's your loss. And also, this doc isn't about Anita and was created and produced by another woman. Stop dropping Anita and gamergate into this thread.
  18. I was a programmer for many years, probably more of an expertise than you'll ever be. Btw have you watched the documentary? Probably not.
  19. Why do you think sexist abuse against women in the online gaming world is a trivial thing? The documentary was created and produced by Shannon Sun-Higginson's and was recently previewed at the SXSW Film Festival and it dispels the myth that gamergate and Anita Sarkeesian are isolated incidents. Do you want to know some stats on this issue? Well, I will tell you since you have obviously not read the link or viewed the trailer: " More than 90% of teenage girls, and an ever-rising 48% of women in general, play videogames. Yet the notion persists that it’s a “guy thing,” not least among those guys who design and play them. This has repercussions on myriad levels, from the ridiculously low share (4%) of women programmers employed in the industry, to the almost inevitable depiction of female characters in games as over-the-top fantasy sexual objects with enormous breasts and minimal clothes. Despite the diversity of their audiences, companies that spend millions developing games are reluctant to stray from a commercially safe basic blueprint that targets the presumed tastes of straight white young-adult males. When they do mix it up a bit, there are howls of protest from those for whom “Grand Theft Auto” and its ilk are sacred texts not to be messed with."
  20. I hesitated to use the 'F' word but I thought it was highly relevant to the documentary being discussed.
  21. I suggest you watch the documentary to educate yourself on the issues female gamers are up against. Maybe you can help these female gamers when they are being harassed.
