  1. To put an exclamation point on it - China is responsible for 67% of the increase in Global emissions since 2000. India is responsible for 15%. What rationale could ever maintain that Canada's attempt to reduce our emissions by 30% of our measly 2% makes any sense at all? As I - and others have stated many times - Canada could make a bigger difference by building pipelines and helping to replace coal in other parts of the world - although I admit, even that would have a relatively negligible overall effect. At this point in time - I'm sure Canadians would like to shut off buying Saudi oil..........

  2. Same as your beef with the USA...see how that works ? I use to think that it must be a bummer to hear/read the value of the Canadian dollar always expressed in terms of USD, but then I realized this has been normalized for generations in Canada...it is expected in Canadian media. "Canadian peso" is not my invention...it has been standard jargon since the mid-1990's.

  3. Because it is cheaper....the Canadian peso makes that possible.

  4. That's the funny part about this thread...no other country in the world consumes as much American media content as does Canada....it is a Canadian value !

  5. I don't think this thread is dangerous, because Canadians consume so much American media and culture, even their anti-American rhetoric comes from the....United States.

  6. Have you tried Al Qaeda...or ISIS ? I hear they are looking for new membership because the evil Americans have rained bombs on them. OTOH, lots of loyal Canadians also hate Toronto/Ontariario.

  7. Ok, so here’s how it all goes down if you get your way: 1) we stooge the Saudis on this shipment of APCs 2) the Saudis buy APCs from China instead 3) the Saudis continue to be dicks for the 1,500th year in a row 4) our economy suffers 5) Chinas economy gets a boost 6) we no longer have any influence with the Saudis 7) China and the saudis build a closer relationship 8) other countries around the world don’t want to deal with us because they know that we’re going to unilaterally back out of deals that we make when we get offended. 9) we have a bunch of workers and suppliers to pay for the construction of all these APCs and no money coming in for them. But the benefit here is that we get to believe that we have a shiny reputation. Guess what... at the UN no one gives a crap about anything that anyone does aside from Israel. The Saudis can do whatever they want and in a few weeks they’ll have a clean slate again.

  8. If you mean me, I do not "laud" Fox news. You mean because I once said that the guy on Sunday morning TV doesn;t seem like a complete ass-hat, I am lauding fox news? Stop exaggerating.

  9. Terry Brooks infuriated Tolkies by taking the LOTR story and greatly simplifying it - and removing the halflngs. I actually read Sword of Shanara before reading LOTR. Loved them both. SM Stirling wrote a long post-apocalyptic (with magic) series called the Emberverse in which a couple of the younger characters were obsessed with LOTR, and they wind up forming a society they called the Dunedain Rangers, who use Tolkien's books as their bible, believing it is literal history, live in trees and speak elvish.

  11. The operative word in your post is "should." Our current system, or at least the version of it featured in Ontario, doesn't function on the basis of universal access to necessary medical care. Rather, care is rationed and some kinds of necessary care (i.e. for rare diseases) basically aren't funded at all. Essentially, you take your chances in the genetic lottery and hope to come up with a winning ticket. Otherwise, you're toast. If that's how our "universal" system works, shouldn't health care consumers be offered other choices? Is a lottery-based program either sufficient or humane?
