Well, as some experts have pointed out, if these allegations are true, then it shows a profound lack of judgement.

In what way? In not knowing her hubby would go bananas and post pictures of her to a web site?

...As I say, with you Americans, I can talk about hockey, but you will soon talk about sports and football. We're no longer talking about our problem, we're now talking about America.

So self-centred.

As always, your contribution has been centered on "You Americans" as a way to define Canada. That's OK.....I know you can't help it.

Or someone who posts about Canada a lot is a way to define yourself as American. It's obvious you don't want to debate, or talk about a certain thing, you just like to troll and ridicule. I am glad you don't represent the typical American though, you seem to have a slightly higher intelligence than most.

And here you go convicting him because of his past.

At least he got a hearing, something you are apparently unwilling to allow the judge since you have already rendered a verdict without even hearing evidence. Then again, ou seem to have no problem with making things up to serve as evidence anyway, so I suppose a hearing isn't necessary.

pressured  ya I've seen him on tv he doesn't strike me as someone who is afraid of a lawyer, the lawyer had no hold over him it was a divorce case he could have switched lawyers at any time but chose to extort $25,000 with the pictures he down loaded from the website he found so objectionable  ...a career criminal with a violent past ya right he's soooo scared of a lawyer ;)

Chapman is a deceptive individual to the core. One wonders if he changed his name to hide previous criminal activity.

One thing we know is that he is a serial litigant.

Manitoba court records show that Mr. Chapman-- who is originally from Trinidad and used to be called Lenard Alexander Quaccoo but changed his name in 1995, according to provincial records -- has been involved in nine lawsuits or legal actions in the past decade, including this week's lawsuits.

No doubt, removing the judge from the bench would encourage some people to dig for dirt against judges that ruled against them, more so if Chapman is awarded damages. Clearing the judge and reinstating her to the bench would lead to howls of indignation from puritans and claims of discrimination against a black person. There will be a down side whichever way it goes. Based on what I know about this case, I think the Manitoba Judicial Council should side with the judge. If anything, as a result of this experience she may end up being a better judge having been caught in a situation similar to many individuals who come before her in court.

Why do you persist if I am such a burden? Please test the ignore feature.

True, as it does for several others here....this is just idle entertainment. We get the jokes.....you don't. There are no "debating" points to win. Sorry....

I would agree with you analysis and assessment....given two bad outcomes, choose the best one. Perhaps a written censure may be in order if it is found that she did not disclose, but she should be returned to the bench once all the propers are completed.

Judges are people too.....

I will never forget the panel of judges at the court of appeal who were covering for the idiotic and corrupt schoundrel that was the trial judge - when you catch a lunitic corrupt judge in the act of conspriacy --- they cover for him by saying "His honour "mispoke"....................wow - if you mis-speak - then that means you mis - think which means you mis-judge .............I lost all respect for them at that moment...but perhaps I mis -behaved and did not want to take part in the lie.

Well, as some experts have pointed out, if these allegations are true, then it shows a profound lack of judgement. For better or for worse, we hold judges to a higher standard, perhaps the highest standard (save maybe for doctors), and what this lady has shown is horrifically bad judgement. I wouldn't want her presiding over a case involving me.

We would like to think so because then that would make it seem as though the justice system was working when in fact it is one beg dysfunctional joke. From the armed gang (RCMP) through the lawyers and including crown attorneys through to the judges it is to laugh.

surprising as it may seem to many on the forum judges have sex lives, as do lawyers, politicians and police...expecting them to be put on some pedestal of sexual purity that the rest of us don't live up to because of their job is irrational...do people actually expect public figures to have sex for procreation only in the missionary position?

now this has come up I recall a judge when I was a kid who I did lawn care for, a very well respected judge from a family of judges and lawyers...I also recall him giving boxes*** of old books to me that had a lot of porn novels, did porn have any effect on his work? no...did it affect my view of him and his lawyer wife? yes, I discovered they were human just like the rest of us...what people do in their sex lives has no bearing on their public lives, the problem lies with those who can't accept that even royalty has naughty sex because that's what human's do...

***I don't think the judge knew the porn books were in the box as I was only 12 or 13 at the time...it was a good sex education for me as sex education in school at that time sucked...

Like to contrast the story (the reporting of included) of Wayne Rooney or Big Ben's sex scandals to the judge's above (Big Ben's suspension now reduced to 4 games suspension and even then, is it fair when he wasn't charged?)

Interesting.

Maybe someone else can tell me what this all means while I eat my dinner.....

That does not really seem like the issue to me. Sure they can have their sex lives, no matter what it is. Once anything is online it's impossible to delete it. So in the end the bribe was really for nothing. But what I see as the real issue and it's the issue seems to be missed here. The issue of harassment/bribery to the guy to keep quite. It's not the pictures that are the problem here, it is how the judge and lawyer dealt with the guy to keep quite.

this is how many cases are settled they never reach a courtroom...I have a niece and her husband who made a career out of frivolous lawsuits and cost it them nothing if the suit failed...they would sue someone for a sizable amount let's say $10-20,000 and the lawyer for the defendent will advise his/her client to settle for a lesser amount $5-10,000 as fighting it in court will would often exceed the settlement...and the plaintiffs lawyer takes a percentage of the settlement if he wins and nothing if they lose...
