myata Posted May 2, 2007 Report Posted May 2, 2007 Here's a good read. they should atleast give the basics about space based wpns sys that are now operational.Space wpns This review is written by a "22-year" veteran of NASA, not a single reference to any sources and in a tone highly apologetic to the US programme that makes it very reminiscent of US propaganda technics. In any case, the only relevant information (to the topic of this discussion) that I could find were references to the old Soviet times tests and experiments, and the AMD system deployed around Russian capital deep inside russion territory. Obviously a huge difference from the system being deployed thousands miles off the US mainland. China Chinese test, already commented on earlier. russia No new information w.r.t. #1. This one here is very dry and tech but it has more about russias space wpns.very dry reading. #1 again, see above. Russia's anti mis sys Dated Feb. 2006 ie way after american system was announced, actually proves the point that players like India and China are concerned about US moves and won't sit doing nothing about it. russia Can't see anything relevant to the discussion in this one. Russian Anti mis sys Interesting but nothing to do with the topic (refers to a "theatre" i.e. tactical anti-aircraft / anti-missile system. Overall: not much. Everybody experimented with virtually anything in the times of cold war. Once it was over, a chance was given to start a new and open relations. Instead US has decided to withdraw from ABM and push its star wars (first) and then ABM agenda. US remains to be the only country seeking to deploy active ABM weapons outside of its territory . The stress is important because system deployed around Russian capital doesn't prevent a retaliation, and therefore does not interfere with the AMD doctrine, while the american system, potentially and eventually, could. That's the idea, but it is far older than your short memory vis-a-vis ABM systems and destabilization. Here's some more "blame" for the Americans....nuke or no-nuke Bomarcs caused Diefenbaker's cabinet to choke and government to fall. Still, Canada provided most of the uranium for the US/UK nuclear warheads during the Cold War, but charged France more. So I guess we should "blame" Canada! Catchme Posted May 3, 2007 Report Posted May 3, 2007 What so many leftists don't seem to get is that peace is not an end unto itself to everybody else. They assume that everyone wants peace, and in fact not everyone does. People who like the status quo want peace, but that doesn't mean everybody else does. That was the fatal flaw in Chamberlain's very reasonable worldview: he assumed that just because he wanted peace, so must Hitler want peace. You are actually speaking of something other here than the topic and have used the topic to attack those on the left with erroneous rhetoric. Also, the covert and erroneous talking points using any connotation to Neville Chamberlain and Hitler identify Blackwell, the Crouches, LaHaye et al, as the real speakers behind that thought form that was posted. Peace, and the desire to have it, has nothing at all to do with desiring status quo btw. Quote When the rich wage war, it's the poor who die. ~Jean-Paul Sartre
scribblet Posted May 3, 2007 Report Posted May 3, 2007 Really, so what did Layton mean when he referenced Chamberlain - just erroneous rhetoric I guess ROTFL which goes to show you know party has the corner on rhetoric. http://www2.parl.gc.ca/HousePublications/P...1&Parl=38&Ses=1 Layton questioning then-prime minister Paul Martin about the Liberal government's failure to meet Kyoto targets "Mr. Speaker, enough is enough. We have been hearing those kinds of comments from the Prime Minister for 16 years since he began promising to clean up the air for Canadians and instead we have worse pollution than ever. He makes Neville Chamberlain look like a stalwart in standing up to a crisis. Smog is sending people to emergency wards at unprecedented levels. The prairies are drying up. We have forest fires like we have never had before. All we get are promises of plans to be brought forward some day. Will he bring forward a plan, yes or no?" Sure looks nice on paper and presentations. Maybe, one day they'll buy you on using it just as they have with building it, at your expense. If the reality will live up to the plan after that is everybody's guess. Survivors (if any) will tell. Quote If it's you or them, the truth is equidistant

myata Posted May 4, 2007 Report Posted May 4, 2007 Or then Nixon (or whoever) said let's go to Vietnam and teach them how to live? Several years later (and x thousands lives down) they had to go home play golf. By all indications it's heading in the same direction in Iraq too. Which way it'll go next time around? Keep your fingers crossed and pray for the better. Quote If it's you or them, the truth is equidistant
