There will likely be another minority government after Canada's next election, Prime Minister Stephen Harper told a U.S. foreign policy group Tuesday while touting his government's global contributions on Afghanistan, climate change and reaching out to Latin America.

"The possibility of a minority government in any election, including one in the near future, would loom very high," said Harper, who appeared relaxed and frank during questions that followed an extensive speech to the prestigious Council on Foreign Relations.

...

In Ottawa, the Liberals said Harper was intentionally lowering expectations of a Conservative majority to avoid frightening voters.

"He's very calculating," Liberal MP Scott Brison told CTV. "He knows that it's a nightmare scenario for most Canadians."

Gee, I wonder why Brison doesn't believe the polling data which says the Tories are stuck at 32%? Could it be there is much more to it than that? dobbin, maybe you should have a word with this guy.

A nightmare scenerio would be an NDP minority or Quebec separating. Anything else is just another variety of vanilla.

Canadian voters have changed their vote when political parties have hinted that they think a majority is possible. Harper is playing it smart by downplaying expectations.

As far as the polls go, 32% is what the Tories are at as of last Monday. We should see some new polling data from Decima shortly since they seem to do weekly polls.

We lived through two back to back Muldoon Majorties.....a Harper majority would not be scary, nor would it be boring nor would it be heaven sent.

It would just be another government in Ottawa.

You want scary? Try a Layton Majority........

RIGHT of SOME, LEFT of OTHERS

If it is a choice between them and us, I choose us
