Former cabinet minister to help asylum seeker

He came to Canada in 2003 using false documents, saying he had been wrongly accused of being involved with a Sikh militant group, the Khalistan Commando Force. His applications for refugee status have all been turned down.
A former B.C. cabinet minister has volunteered to be part of a medical team looking after a severely paralysed man who is avoiding deportation by taking sanctuary in an Abbotsford Sikh temple.

Singh became paralysed last year after suffering from an aneurysm.

Should Stockwell Day let him stay or should he go?

Aboslutely deport him.

Using a temple as sanctuary is truly offensive. He lied to get into the country. Get him out ASAP.

DETAIN, THEN DEPORT!

(now let me go back and read the origional post)

---- Charles Anthony banned me for 30 days on April 28 for 'obnoxious libel' when I suggested Jack Layton took part in illegal activities in a message parlor. Claiming a politician took part in illegal activity is not rightful cause for banning and is what is discussed here almost daily in one capacity or another. This was really a brownshirt style censorship from a moderator on mapleleafweb http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q1oGB-BKdZg---

What about his use of our healthcare system?

Thumbs down.

So far the responses have been from right leaning posters, where are the opinions of our left leaners?

So lefties, should he stay or should he go?

Seems like you are kind of answering your own question.

Seriously, who gives a f*ck. Even if it costs the Conservatives the next election, get this filth out of our country ASAP.

More bleeding hearts looking for sympathy for Singh.

Refugee issue riddled with misinformation

An article "Special to the Vancouver Sun" by Harsha Walia- is with No One is Illegal, a human and refugee rights organization.

First, Singh was only handed a deportation order for July 8 of this year and took sanctuary on July 7. He has, therefore, never been "illegal" in Canada before taking sanctuary. Everyone in sanctuary has overstayed a deportation order, not just Singh.

Second, Singh arrived on a fake document, which he declared to Canadian immigration authorities. This is not illegal as international and Canadian refugee law recognizes the reality that many asylum seekers will be forced to travel on fake documents.

The International Convention on the Status of Refugees prohibits governments from penalizing refugees who enter "illegally" in their territory. Similarly, Canada's Immigration and Refugee Protection Act exempts refugees from prosecution for using false documents.

Easiest way to get into Canada, is to just arrive.

It's your right as a illegal refugee with false documents.

Why bother with legal methods.

Singh-Abbotsford News

Singh misses his children in India but refuses to return to his home country. He argues he would not receive adequate medical care there.

“My health does not allow me to go to India. There is no other reason, other than health,” he said.

Paralysed man nabbed by police after leaving sanctuary

A paralysed Punjabi refugee claimant who avoided deportation after he was whisked to sanctuary in an Abbotsford temple has been arrested.

About 30 uniformed and undercover Abbotsford police officers and Canadian Border Services agents arrested Laibar Singh, 48, at MSA Hospital in Abbotsford, at about 10 p.m. Monday.

Only 30 uniformed and undercover B) officers and agents there to nab this guy?

His care at VGH is estimated to have cost more than $400,000, with his stay at George Pearson costing $400 a day.

His deportation, which would require medical attention during the flight, was expected to cost $70,000.

What now? Should he stay or should he go?

What bleeding hearts?

Say goodbye! He needs to go.

The bleeding hearts who want other illegals who always make a similar stay in churches,or those illegals who have a sad tale to tell, to be allowed to stay in this country.

How come not one person on this forum has come to the defense of this man? What makes him different?

How is it that the government is giving him the boot so quickly while many other illegals are still here, many years after being told to leave?

Where are all the posters who talk about the poor and downtrodden on this site day in and day out, telling us about how the government and society does so little for these people.

Where are these individuals defending this illegal?

Staying in churches is a long established practice. Some illegals do have a valid story of persecution from their homeland. Some lie, and I think this guy is one of the liars. So out he goes.

Not everything is black and white as you suggest.

Perhaps we dont believe him? Why are you so bent on someone defending him?

What are you looking for a fight? Relax, chill out, maybe the lefties dont believe him. You are all PO'd that all agree with you.

So you believe some illegals who do the same thing this guy does by hiding out in a church,

but with this guy,you think he is a liar,no benefit of the doubt,no second chance, just be the judge and jury and kick him out.

Funny how most lefties can't come out and say, "Kick him out!"

They would rather abstain from making a comment, especially when it tends to be a view that they feel is right wing.

Being silent is better than (forbid that I should) agree with a "right wing" view.

PO'd that all agree with me?....and what is my side on this?

He's been given a 60 day reprieve while the Feds review his case.

Why have laws?

Just get a big enough mob and then you can ignore the courts at will.

Seems so. I find it disturbing how this community is protecting a criminal. But more disturbing that Canada just lets them.

Should Stockwell Day let him stay or should he go?

For this man to be sent away to a dumpy and dirty life to be spoon fed in a hovel somewhere seems cruel...but what I saw as cruel was a teacher I had taken a class with - He was from mainland China and was seeking refugee status here in Canada - He called himself "Jimmy" - by nature he was a very very gentle sort. He is a very sweet human being is the only way to describe him - If his hearing does not go well, it's off to China for him and most likely death. I asked him if the theft of human organs for transplant was big buisness in China? He said yes...I joked saying he would be used for spare parts if sent back - punished for leaving and maybe executed - and stripped down like an old car - for his liver and heart etc.

The point is - the guy from China after 20 days of communication - from what I gather will not thrive in China...he is to soft and kind. Personally I believe "Jimmy" would make a fine addition to the Canadian population. As far as this spoon fed "asylum seeker" - he should stick to doing things right and go through the proper channels..and Stockwell should represent and respect our secular institutions - he should trust them. The problem here is that this man - is just to damn expensive to keep - you are talking a few million bucks worth of care - do we pay or do we dump this semi-corpse in the garbage -and remember - we will all be old and infirm eventually...so do we change his diapers or does the nation of his origin change his diapers - that's the call. By the way - what's that smell - You turn.
