Canuck E Stan Posted July 11, 2007 Report Posted July 11, 2007 Former cabinet minister to help asylum seeker He came to Canada in 2003 using false documents, saying he had been wrongly accused of being involved with a Sikh militant group, the Khalistan Commando Force. His applications for refugee status have all been turned down. A former B.C. cabinet minister has volunteered to be part of a medical team looking after a severely paralysed man who is avoiding deportation by taking sanctuary in an Abbotsford Sikh temple.Singh became paralysed last year after suffering from an aneurysm. ScottSA Posted July 12, 2007 Report Posted July 12, 2007 What is particularly ludicrous is his claim that the aneurism was brought on by getting a deportation order in the first place. What rot. Thumbs down. Quote
Canuck E Stan Posted July 12, 2007 Author Report Posted July 12, 2007 Thumbs down. So far the responses have been from right leaning posters, where are the opinions of our left leaners? Canuck E Stan Posted July 13, 2007 Author Report Posted July 13, 2007 (edited) More bleeding hearts looking for sympathy for Singh. Refugee issue riddled with misinformation An article "Special to the Vancouver Sun" by Harsha Walia- is with No One is Illegal, a human and refugee rights organization. First, Singh was only handed a deportation order for July 8 of this year and took sanctuary on July 7. He has, therefore, never been "illegal" in Canada before taking sanctuary. Everyone in sanctuary has overstayed a deportation order, not just Singh.Second, Singh arrived on a fake document, which he declared to Canadian immigration authorities. This is not illegal as international and Canadian refugee law recognizes the reality that many asylum seekers will be forced to travel on fake documents. The International Convention on the Status of Refugees prohibits governments from penalizing refugees who enter "illegally" in their territory. Similarly, Canada's Immigration and Refugee Protection Act exempts refugees from prosecution for using false documents. Easiest way to get into Canada, is to just arrive. It's your right as a illegal refugee with false documents. Why bother with legal methods. Added: Singh-Abbotsford News Singh misses his children in India but refuses to return to his home country. He argues he would not receive adequate medical care there.“My health does not allow me to go to India. There is no other reason, other than health,” he said. Canuck E Stan Posted August 14, 2007 Author Report Posted August 14, 2007 Paralysed man nabbed by police after leaving sanctuary A paralysed Punjabi refugee claimant who avoided deportation after he was whisked to sanctuary in an Abbotsford temple has been arrested.About 30 uniformed and undercover Abbotsford police officers and Canadian Border Services agents arrested Laibar Singh, 48, at MSA Hospital in Abbotsford, at about 10 p.m. Monday. Only 30 uniformed and undercover officers and agents there to nab this guy? His care at VGH is estimated to have cost more than $400,000, with his stay at George Pearson costing $400 a day.His deportation, which would require medical attention during the flight, was expected to cost $70,000. What now? Should he stay or should he go? Quote "Any man under 30 who is not a liberal has no heart, and any man over 30 who is not a conservative has no brains." — Winston Churchill

How come not one person on this forum has come to the defense of this man? What makes him different? How is it that the government is giving him the boot so quickly while many other illegals are still here, many years after being told to leave? Staying in churches is a long established practice. Some illegals do have a valid story of persecution from their homeland. Some lie, and I think this guy is one of the liars. So out he goes. Not everything is black and white as you suggest. How come not one person on this forum has come to the defense of this man? What makes him different? Perhaps we dont believe him? Oleg Bach Posted January 10, 2008 Report Posted January 10, 2008 Former cabinet minister to help asylum seeker Should Stockwell Day let him stay or should he go? For this man to be sent away to a dumpy and dirty life to be spoon fed in a hovel somewhere seems cruel...but what I saw as cruel was a teacher I had taken a class with - He was from mainland China and was seeking refugee status here in Canada - He called himself "Jimmy" - by nature he was a very very gentle sort. He is a very sweet human being is the only way to describe him - If his hearing does not go well, it's off to China for him and most likely death. I asked him if the theft of human organs for transplant was big buisness in China? He said yes...I joked saying he would be used for spare parts if sent back - punished for leaving and maybe executed - and stripped down like an old car - for his liver and heart etc. The point is - the guy from China after 20 days of communication - from what I gather will not thrive in China...he is to soft and kind. Personally I believe "Jimmy" would make a fine addition to the Canadian population. As far as this spoon fed "asylum seeker" - he should stick to doing things right and go through the proper channels..and Stockwell should represent and respect our secular institutions - he should trust them. The problem here is that this man - is just to damn expensive to keep - you are talking a few million bucks worth of care - do we pay or do we dump this semi-corpse in the garbage -and remember - we will all be old and infirm eventually...so do we change his diapers or does the nation of his origin change his diapers - that's the call. By the way - what's that smell - You turn. Quote
