noahbody
My thought would be pull the guys balls off and deal with the legalities later....if it means saving the lives of my people. Actually this approach might be justified for the Taliban. What good are 72 virgins, if you don't have any balls?

Leafless
My thought would be pull the guys balls off and deal with the legalities later....if it means saving the lives of my people. Actually this approach might be justified for the Taliban. What good are 72 virgins, if you don't have any balls? Doesn't really matter. The fact is dying as a martyr for Allah is the greatest blessing that can be bestowed on an Islamic warrior. This supports the notion that the only weapon that works against the Taliban, is to annihilate the Taliban and other terrorist groups with the same beliefs. This could also mean countries that harbour them if governments of those country cannot clean up their home grown problem. Case in point: Look what pussy footing in Iraq cost the U.S. government and the U.S. and Canada and other NATO allies in Afghanistan. Wilber
Again: the probability of everything falling into place is exceedingly slim. You have to know about the plot, th eimmediacy of the threat, you have to have a guy in custody and thaty guy has to be the guy with the one piece of information you don't have. Oh and also that he'll tell you the truth after torture. It's all very silly and improbable. That a fable like the TTB scenario is the "go-to" argument in the discussion of torture just shows how weak the case for it is. Of course you would have first hand knowledge of this. If everything did fall into place, you would know nothing about it would you and neither would the rest of us. .....now the fear of torture, that works. Only if they know you will make good on your threat and the only way they will know that is if it is used occasionaly.

Wilber
Huh? Like anything else, if a problem is discovered before it occurs, no one ever knows about it except the people immediately involved.

Black Dog
Like anything else, if a problem is discovered before it occurs, no one ever knows about it except the people immediately involved. The point is the idea that you wopuld have intimate knowledge of the plot and the perpatrators but not know a single key piece of evidence is highly unlikely.
