Forum Admin Greg Posted April 4, 2007 Forum Admin Report Posted April 4, 2007 Could be something with this site in particular. Greg has had problems with hackers on this site, so something could have snuck on your drive from here. And a good deal of the time it is due to some botched up or compromised Active X script. To clarify, in the seven years we're been operating, we've only had one hacker exploit in these forums. The exploit was quickly removed and the security hole was patched with little if any problems. Leafless has run the Hijackthis - in my opinion the best spyware/trojan removal tool on the Internet - and nothing was found. I'm not saying he doesn't have a trojan/virus/etc, but I can assure you it isn't originating from these forums, Quote Have any issues, problems using the forum? Forum Admin Greg Posted April 4, 2007 Forum Admin Report Posted April 4, 2007 Also, you should also invest in a hardware firewall too. Software firewalls are good, hardware firewalls (combined with a software firewall) are better. Also, go through you system and remove all the programs that you don't use anymore. You'd be surprised how many of them sit in the background and cause problems. Quote Have any issues, problems using the forum? Post a message in the Support and Questions section of the forums.

I will be pursuing the hardware firewall recommendation. As far as programs go, my special net drive is pretty much clutter free of programs I don't use while surfing on the www. Quote
GostHacked Posted April 5, 2007 Report Posted April 5, 2007 I run my firewall locked down pretty tight. Opening/closing ports when needed. I have many services in my XP disabled, some viruses were targeted for RPC so that mode is disabled on my PC. So if you don't need some of those services, and they are not dependant on anything you need, you can disable them altogether. Makes my life easier. I don't run AV on my PC, but I do the spyware scan often. I have only had one virus give me problems in 3 years otherwise. Hope you get to the bottom of it. Hardware firewall is going to eliminate many of your problems when connected to the Internet. Quote
