BayLee Posted February 12, 2007 Report Posted February 12, 2007 While not having always been my first choice for music to play, these girls are hugely talented and it is so good to them with so many nominations on todays grammys. Lets hope they do good and shut up some of these right wingers in America and Canada who seem to think bush is God and that Canada should bow to Americas every wish Quote I Love My Dogs
Canadian Blue Posted February 12, 2007 Report Posted February 12, 2007 Baylee, what's the deal with all the hating. Lets hope they do good and shut up some of these right wingers in America and Canada who seem to think bush is God and that Canada should bow to Americas every wish I'm a liberal libertarian, however I believe that in order to shutup those that they disagree with they would have to employ authoritarianism. guyser Posted February 12, 2007 Report Posted February 12, 2007 Lets hope they do good and shut up some of these right wingers in America and Canada who seem to think bush is God and that Canada should bow to Americas every wish Talented ................and stupid is what they are. And in fact I like them, but thats not the point. Free market and speech baby ! They want to live by the sword they can die from it too. They took on their Pres, and people having the ability to say what they want , came out and denounced them. Works both ways. They lost a ton of money, the shows in the US were not all sold out, some had to be cancelled due to poor ticket sales. They did well in CDA , as we could care less what they say about GWB, although I think their words spurred sales in this anti-GWB country. You need to get out more. Quote

They had the last laugh though. They won song/record/album of the year, and the president revealed himself as an incompetent boob. stignasty Posted February 12, 2007 Report Posted February 12, 2007 And the Grammy for the band who got shat upon after a pretty harmless quote about the president hit the pundits goes to... Quote "It may not be true, but it's legendary that if you're like all Americans, you know almost nothing except for your own country. Which makes you probably knowledgeable about one more country than most Canadians." - Stephen Harper

They have way more purpose and goodness than what you have just used them for. Funny thing though eh, the Dixie Chicks took their principled stand, on their own and those that denounced them were egged on to do so. Thereby ending up with egg on their face when the Dixie Chicks were proven correct. Quote When the rich wage war, it's the poor who die. ~Jean-Paul Sartre

Thereby ending up with egg on their face when the Dixie Chicks were proven correct. Wot kind of boobs are we not supposed to denigrate, are you saying Bush has a lot of goodness and purpose or what? The Dixie Chicks made their choices and the purchasers of their music made theirs, there was no government interference. They lost millions and still are, their concerts had to be cancelled in the States they might have won an award but they are still paying for their stand and their standoff with Toby Keith. Quote
Catchme Posted February 12, 2007 Report Posted February 12, 2007 Somehow, I think I would like to be the Dixie Chicks with the kinda payoff they have been getting for their principled stand. They get to win awards, make millions, and still be principled and respected by the majority of the world. No boobs are by far superior to George Bush, as they actauly have goodness and worth. Hence my asking him not to denigate them by likening Bush them. Quote When the rich wage war, it's the poor who die. ~Jean-Paul Sartre
BubberMiley Posted February 12, 2007 Report Posted February 12, 2007 Point taken. Boobs are also a life-giving force, as opposed to a black-cheney death force. Quote "I think it's fun watching the waldick get all excited/knickers in a knot over something." -scribblet
BayLee Posted February 12, 2007 Author Report Posted February 12, 2007 Not just denounced them--threatened their lives. Only in America would a bunch of redneck right wingers threaten some ladies in a music band because they didnt like what they had to say But yea they had the last laugh Heh-Heh Quote I Love My Dogs
scribblet Posted February 12, 2007 Report Posted February 12, 2007 I like the Chix music, but once they used the stage for their own political arena they left themselves open for the boycott. I don't know why celebrities feel they can say anything they like without any reaction. I sure don't pay to see a performer spout of about politics, I pay to listen to them sing. I'm glad they've made a comeback. Quote Hey Ho - Ontario Liberals Have to Go - Fight Wynne - save our province

Catchme Posted February 12, 2007 Report Posted February 12, 2007 The Dixie Chicks won 5 grammy's, and they were widely and resoundingly cheered. This is a huge statement on the part of the majority Americans. Thankfully sanity is reigning down there. Quote When the rich wage war, it's the poor who die. ~Jean-Paul Sartre

Music and politics have gone hand in hand for over 100 years. Musicians like Bruce Cockburn are totally political with their music. He in one of his most famous songs threatened death on politicions You can go back 45 year when Bob Dylan talking about politicions making war came right out and said he hopes they die. JerrySeinfeld Posted February 12, 2007 Report Posted February 12, 2007 The Dixie Chicks won 5 grammy's, and they were widely and resoundingly cheered. This is a huge statement on the part of the majority Americans. Thankfully sanity is reigning down there. Get over it people. Freedom of speech works both ways. People have every right not to buy their records or to picket outside their shows. The "death threat" is offside, but I think its totally unfair to equate that with the majority of people who didn't like what the chicks said on stage. - and even more unfair to equate it with GW Bush who had nothing to do with any of it. I think all GW Bush said was something to the effect that they "shouldn't get upset just because people aren't buying their records" - which he turned out to be wrong about. But it gets to be a bit much when we keep saying Larry King interviews, worldwide press coverage and grammy awards for songs about how they're being "silenced". Oh well - again another example of what I'm talking about - the left is like skateboarders - they all have this complex that people are trying to oppress them but it just ain't reality. Last night was another prime example of what I've been saying for a long time. Quote

BubberMiley Posted February 13, 2007 Report Posted February 13, 2007 This is one of many instances where I think the right is becoming a little embarrassed by their rabid overreaction to their opponents in the past few years. Some are still over the deep end, as is often evidenced on this board, but many others are coming back around to thinking rationally. And you give perfect examples of this. People should really look at far their freedom of speech has been down graded, if they had made a song about killing politicians, Bush would've had them arrested and sent to jail. BubberMiley Posted February 13, 2007 Report Posted February 13, 2007 Actually in some countries they would have been stoned. Thats with real rocks. What's your point? Are you advocating stoning them? I don't think the fact that some people would do worse than threaten their lives justifies people threatening their lives. Saying otherwise just demonstrates how people's morals can often be trumped by their partisanship. Wilber Posted February 13, 2007 Report Posted February 13, 2007 What is it with today's right wing that they cannot tolerate criticism? And you give perfect examples of this. Why do you generalize so much? People are accountable for what they say. If they didn't expect a reaction from a certain percentage of the population they were very naive. Any celeb who pops off on a political issue is going to get flack from some quarter. There are always a few on the fringe who take it to far and threaten violence but most of that is just mouth. Personally, I don't give any more credence to the opinion of show biz people than anyone else. They are just another mouth who is entitled to their say but not to my money. I kind of like some of the Chicks music actually and have a couple of their albums. I could care less about their politics as long as they are just bashing politicians. They are fair game.
