Ricki Bobbi Posted January 18, 2007 Report Posted January 18, 2007 I didn't see the first episode but did catch the second. Completely agreed with this comment from CBC's *blog* First episode was OK. The Jokes were overused and lame.Second episode was PATHETIC. I doubt this series will last a long time. Anybody who saw both have an opinion? guyser Posted January 18, 2007 Report Posted January 18, 2007 I'm interested in taking a look at where you saw that. Here you go...............from Sun entertainment section The sitcom blazed out of the gate with 2.1 million viewers last week. Monday's repeat of the pilot, originally supposed to be the second episode, fell to 606,000 viewers opposite the Golden Globes and -- ironically -- Rota's debut on 24. Quote
Fortunata Posted January 18, 2007 Report Posted January 18, 2007 I thought the second better than the first. The blonde convert bugs hell out of me - I don't think she's that good of an actor ... or something about her. I like the church's pastor, he reminds me of a neighbour I had growing up. And, yes .. it is a bit corny and predictable but so is every other sitcom on tv, the worst being My Name is Earl - it could have been good but just isn't. Quote

BC_chick Posted January 18, 2007 Report Posted January 18, 2007 The meaning of yesterdays show.. the moral of the story IMO is that white people corrupt the mosque. Like how she grabbed her husbands butt in the mosque. Really? I understood it as Muslims are not a monolithic people. BC_chick Posted January 18, 2007 Report Posted January 18, 2007 I notice from myself and other guys as well, that when walking through a shopping mall our heads turn a lot more than those of females. That's because studies show that a universal standard of beauty applies more to men than to women. What a woman finds attractive is very personal and no real consitency amongst women. Yet there are all types of women that most men find attractive. Oh, and ps, just a personal observation here (no hard data to back it up) but I notice men AND women look at women more than they do men. When I'm put together nice, I find more women looking at me than men. My boyfriend even once mentioned the same thing. So who knows, maybe we are the fairer sex for more reasons than one. jefferiah Posted January 18, 2007 Report Posted January 18, 2007 A woman probably did that study. I think they are just better at feigning concentration than us. scribblet Posted January 19, 2007 Report Posted January 19, 2007 I'm putting this here to contrast this with the "The timing could not be more apposite. After the humorless banalities of the CBC's Little Mosque on the Prairie come the grotesque realities of Channel 4's Undercover Mosque in the U.K." The timing is appropriate, but I bet CBC won't broadcast this study., http://www.canada.com/nationalpost/story.h...78-fa943099b401 From the mouth of mullahs Journalists from Channel 4's Dispatches programme conducted a 10-month undercover assignment in several of Britain's leading mosques. The resulting segment, Undercover Mosque, was aired on Jan. 15. What is particularly relevant is that Dispatches has an international reputation for excellence and, important this, for its general left-wing approach to political issues. As such, the producers decided to investigate not those Muslim centres renowned for their extremism but various large, influential and allegedly moderate Islamic holy places. What it found has provoked waves of shock. Several preachers and imams call for holy war, tell congregations that Muslims have to brainwash people, demand that homosexuals be murdered, insist that girls who refuse to wear the hijab should be beaten, and routinely demand that Christians and Jews be killed. At one mosque in Birmingham, Abu Usama, one of the most popular speakers, says that Muslims have to "form a state within a state, until we take over." He says that in this state any Muslim who tried to leave Islam would be killed. "If the Imam wants to crucify him he could crucify him. The bperson is put up on the wood and he's left there to bleed to death." The documentary also shows a preacher joking about harming gay people secretly so as not to break the law. He laughs as he tells Muslim dentists to thrust extra- large needles into the faces of gay patients. This is all especially embarrassing for the government because one of its main advisors on Islam, a Muslim member of the House of Lords, attends this particular mosque and speaks highly of it. mikedavid00 Posted January 19, 2007 Author Report Posted January 19, 2007 I understood it as Muslims are not a monolithic people. Then the shows agenda is working. Facts are, just about all mosques seperate the men and women. They do this for a reason. You will not find women grabbing guys butts in mosques. It's simply not premitted. Yes. This along with the Shilpa Shetty story are the biggest stories in the UK right now. Islam and multi-culturalism is all they are talking about. Things have gotten a bit out of countrol. A poll was released just a day or two back where 85% of Canadians feel that immigrants should make more of an effort to integrate. Canada is going to have its problems soon and due to the CBC, Harper cannot address this issue. I did say earlier that the show was part humour, part stereo-type, and part wishful wishful-thinking. But the wishful-thinking part is not exclusive to this show, many other programmings do the same thing.... art is often the ideal form of life. To say it's a brainwashing tactic is reading too much into it..... IMO. And unless you truly believe that every individual Muslim out there is perfectly happy separating men and women, then my interpretation of the show (as depicting the diversity of Muslims in Canada in hopes of inspiring change for both the adversaries of the religion as well as its followers), is probably more true to life than some hidden agenda to turn all Muslims against Canada. After all, they don't need a sitcom to do that. Quote It's kind of the worst thing that any humans could be doing at this time in human history. Other than that, it's fine." I think you vastly overestimate the influence of the CBC. Instead, you might want to blame increased immigration on capitalism. Our economic system depends on population growth above our birthrate to fill the lowest-wage jobs, grow the number of consumers, and keep our cities suitably dense to absorb the cost of inner city infrastructure, as the rest of us make six figures in the suburbs. Fortunata Posted January 26, 2007 Report Posted January 26, 2007 So after only two episodes of Little Mosque it has been inducted into the Museum of Television and Radio in Los Angeles. Quote
