Three seats in Montreal will opening up, perhaps very soon. Jean Lapierre is leaving.

In Toronto, Bill Graham is leaving. I can think of three former Liberal leadership candidates who would love to run there.

Any other seats out there where there is an indication that they might be open for a by-election or in time for the next election?

Bob Rae will run there. Kennedy will run in High Park to take the seat back from the Dippers.

Brenda What's-her-name (liberal) won't be running in Guelph, ON.

I'd be very, very surprised to see Rae run.

Liza Frulla has said she won't run again. Andre Arthur has cancer and he may not run.

He's said he would run. Your right though, I think there is a good chance he won't.

Bob Rae would only win a seat in the most orange riding in Toronto (or an already very very Liberal riding... he won't make a pick off the CPC). Kennedy can win any seat in Ontario.

Who's this third guy dobbin is talking about?

They said Rae was talking to Graham on CBC Radio today about the timing of when Graham steps down. You think he is quitting politics after not making it as as leader?

Martha Hall Findlay? (not a guy by the way ;) )

Almost three thousand people died needlessly and tragically at the World Trade Center on September 11; ten thousand Africans die needlessly and tragically every single day-and have died every single day since September 11-of AIDS, TB, and malaria. We need to keep September 11 in perspective, especially because the ten thousand daily deaths are preventable.

I think he meant who was leaving in Montreal but I could be wrong.

Oops, I thought he was referring to this comment: "I can think of three former Liberal leadership candidates who would love to run there." My bad.

I'm not sure why you can't call them the NDP rather than the Dippers. I'm tempted to call the Conservatives the Harpercrites but I don't do that because it encourages the proliferation of derogatory names for political parties and their leaders.

All kidding aside, is "Dippers" considered derogatory? The term "New Democratic Party" or "New Democrats" would seem to breed confusion since Bill Clinton called the more conservative iteration of the Democratic Party he was allegedly seeking to build the "New Democrats".

The New Democratic Party has been a part of Canada since 1961 and I think the number of Canadians who would confuse the NDP with Bill Clinton's New Democrats could be counted on the fingers of one hand.

Is Dippers considered derogatory? If that's what NDP members called themselves, probably not. But I'm guessing that the term Dippers is employed mainly by those who tend not to vote NDP. Just a guess though.

John Williams - Edmonton-St. Albert and Ken Epp - Edmonton-Sherwood Park have both announced they aren't running again.

Kennedy cannot win any seat in Ontario. That is a very broad statement. There are many safe Liberal seats and some competitive seats he can try, but there are seats that certain parties hold and are very likely to remain in unchanged, even when the incumbent party runs a lame candidate, and the challeging party runs a dynamic Candidate. It's just the way it is.

Jim Peterson in Toronto has also indicated he won't be running.

There is talk that Gerard Kennedy might run in Winnipeg. I hope he chooses my riding.

If Kennedy were to run as a candidate in my riding in Winnipeg, I'd probably vote for him.

I'm guessing he doesn't want to take his chances in a riding in Edmonton.

If there is a good proposal in Edmonton, why not? But then he'd be fighting an entire province who would call him a carpetbagger and non-resident who foolishly tried to feed the poor the last time he was in the city.

What's he still doing around?

---- Charles Anthony banned me for 30 days on April 28 for 'obnoxious libel' when I suggested Jack Layton took part in illegal activities in a message parlor. Claiming a politician took part in illegal activity is not rightful cause for banning and is what is discussed here almost daily in one capacity or another. For some reason I doubt he'd be attacked for starting the food bank. Besides Edmonton is a stronghold for the provincial Liberal's historically.

I hope he runs in my riding in Winnipeg, I'd vote for him. I think our former Liberal MP, Reg Alcock, has already said he won't run again, so Winnipeg South is in need of a good Liberal candidate.
