And I'm sensing a real desperation from the CPC and NDP. i.e. critisizing him for having French citizenship. I ran that by all my political barometers at work and all of them...even the rightwingers...said basically "yeah, so?" Pat Martin is a swiftboater, nothing more. I think that it doesn't bother poeple because people don't see him becoming Priminster. Keep telling yourself that. Actually I cringe to think of him in the debates... I also cringed when I saw him speak in the house.. i mean there's bad English, and then there's REALLY, REALLY, BAD ENGLISH. I don't think he's goign to fair well during the debates against harper. I actually feel that you'll see a lot of back and forth between Dion and Ducept. The Quebec issues will get the better of him. Harper will be a one man show until he does the French debates. The debates do legitematly affect the polls so we'll see. And man, it's a really, really good thing that he didn't have to face another elite like Ray or Ignatieff. Ignatieff would have killed him in the debates. The Harvard types like Ignatieff, Ralph Nadar, and Norm Chompski would slaughter any politician in an debate - even Harper so I'm glad those guys didn't win. But Dion? I wouldn't even call that a debate. Claiming a politician took part in illegal activity is not rightful cause for banning and is what is discussed here almost daily in one capacity or another. Your supposed to do this if one thread goes too much off topic. We are talking about polls and no one has forcasted that the debates can sometiems make or break descisions and effect polls. Thus, I found it a good idea to discuss the national debates with dion vs. harper. watching&waiting Posted December 7, 2006 Report Posted December 7, 2006 I am not french but the wife is and she has said that Harpers french is quite good. He does speak the true French-Canadian language and not the Parisiene French though. She found him using the correct verbs and things, but yes he still has an accent of the English and not the French, but that does not take away his ability to say what he has to say and make his point in French. Dions french is the Parisiene French and his english is well an effort but he just does not make his point as he is searching to much for the words. Quote

I look forward to the debates just as I looked forward to the Chretien/Stockwell Day debates. I anticipate Dion's accent and English skills will hurt him as much as it did Chretien. Quote
