Young Canadians are flooding into military recruiting centres even as top commanders caution that more and more of these future soldiers can expect to see frontline service in Afghanistan, whether they want to or not.

"Kids are flocking to our recruiting centres across our country," Gen. Rick Hillier, the chief of defence staff, said yesterday.

"Twice the number so far this year as during the same time last year," Hillier said. "We have connected with the Canadian population. We would like to do a little bit better with all minority communities with whom we are trying to establish a relationship, but we know that takes long-term," Hillier said.

This means something to English Canadians and it's remarkable.

I was noticing the new recruiting ads. Professionall, cool and have probably played a role in increasing the number of people interested in signing up.

See what happens when Government advertising money is used to buy the best possible ads ....

The advertising is fairly new. The upsurge in recruitment has been visible for much of the year. As aghast as liberals seem to be with Afghanistan and the casualties there a lot of young Canadians seem to think they'd like to take part in what's going on.

What does that mean!? "This means something to ENGLISH CANADIANS"?

I don't broad brush the french canadians, I'd appreciate it if you'd stop doing the same for the english.

It's not the advertising money, or even the talent of the advertising logo.

It's something else.

Because?

What the hell does talent of the adverising logo mean?

Talent of the ad firm? Do you believe advertsing has zero effect?

Easy to be a naysayer, but without an alternative you look incredibly weak...

And where are the French Canadians when their country comes calling?

  • Free speech: "You can say what you want, but I don't have to lend you my megaphone."
  • Always remember that when you are in the right you can afford to keep your temper, and when you are in the wrong you cannot afford to lose it. - J.J. Reynolds.
  • Will the steps anyone is proposing to fight "climate change" reduce a single temperature, by a single degree, at a single location?
  • The mantra of "world opinion" or the views of the "international community" betrays flabby and weak reasoning (link).

Volunteering at a rate higher per capita than Ontario.

I don't know if that's precisely accurate. The Quebec City recruitment office has done well. Perhaps Dobbin you have another source:
Les Forces armées comptent recruter 7000 personnes au Canada cette année, dont 1800 grâce au bureau de Québec.

Annuellement, environ 5000 personnes prennent leur retraite ou quittent les Forces canadiennes. En tout, 62 500 personnes y occupent un emploi.

R-C

I suspect that recruitment follows regional unemployment rates.

Incidentally, you can see the new recruitment

Looking around for a source. It was being talked about on radio the other day. Newfoundland had the higest per capita followed by Quebec and Saskatchewan.

Ontario had the highest numbers overall but not per capita.

I'll see if I can find a per capita number.

They wouldn't have. Too many immigrants.
